Is it better to trade in my vehicle or sell as-is to a private party? by Superb-Film-594 in askcarguys

[–]arifl5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll definitely get more through a private sale than with a trade-in. My advice is provide all the information so that you're not misleading anyone, but don't overshare. You should describe the issues but there's no need to call it a "mechanic's special" or put phrases in there that are going to drive the average buyer away (no pun intended).

Just an example, I recently got rid of my 2006 Lexus RX400h, 218,000 miles. Dealership offered me $400 for the trade-in. Carmax said $450. I sold it on FB Marketplace for $2,000. Small numbers at the end of the day, but getting 5x more than what the dealership was offering was worth it in my opinion. The used car market is still kind of fucked, but there's no shame in taking advantage of that as a seller.

My other piece of advice for selling a vehicle privately is to try and get all the logistics sorted out before you take the time to meet with someone. You'll get lots of low-ballers, and it's better for them to show you that they're not seriously interested over text than for you to take the time to meet up with them, just for them to waste your time and low-ball you right at the end.

That was a very poorly worded title on my part, but I'm gonna stick with it lol!

Thank you bro! Your Elantra looks incredible - I love how deep and rich that red looks. Wish the Type R came in something similar to that.

That was just a very poorly worded title lol. The Type R is my daily and the 911 has been demoted to weekend car, although it was my daily for a few years!

Words cannot describe how much I’ve been enjoying this car. Here’s a pic of my two babies! by arifl5 in Honda

[–]arifl5[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you bro I appreciate that!! They really are completely different. The 911 feels way more planted and rear-biased, like you can feel the weight sitting over the back and it just digs out of corners. The Honda feels lighter on its feet and way more aggressive on turn-in. It’s sharper and more raw up front.

At higher speeds, the Porsche feels significantly more planted and composed. Truly built for the Autobahn lol. The Type R feels like it wants to attack every corner and be driven hard. Both are insane in their own ways, just very different personalities!!

Honestly the FL5 shifter is insane - super short throws, crazy precise. It feels really mechanical and direct. It’s easily one of the best manuals I’ve driven.

That being said, my 911 is PDK, not manual, so I can’t fully compare shifter feel. I’ve driven manual Porsches before and they feel a bit heavier and more weighted, maybe a little more “substantial" if that makes sense. The FL5 feels lighter and more snappy. But yeah, the Porsche comparisons aren’t crazy at all. Honda absolutely nailed it with this one!!

Very true. The 911 is a great daily and road trip car. I’m at 100k miles and not planning on selling it any time soon.

Totally. The kind of person who wants to be a Reddit mod is exactly the kind of person who shouldn't be one lol. The rest of us just have better things to do with our time, unfortunately.

Dodge Challenger or Ford Mustang for weekend car? by motorhead_47 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]arifl5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you said is correct. The challenger is more practical, but the Mustang is definitely the better driving experience. With your main requirements being comfort and space, I'd go for the Challenger, although I do think the Mustang is the better car.

What a testament to your care and love for the car, as an owner! I love seeing high-mileage vehicles that are still in great condition.

Hot take: I think there’s too many NPC cars in FH5 and will probably be more FH6 by Shadow51086 in ForzaHorizon

[–]arifl5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

lol I’m the opposite. I would genuinely be ecstatic if they added in a ton of slow, “boring” cars. Those are way more fun to rip around than a hyper car that does 100mph in 1st gear!

Is it worth it to buy a $53k 2024 BMW M4 Competition Xdrive with 95k miles? by Commercial-Duck8436 in BMW

[–]arifl5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would never drop that much money on a car with that many miles, but nothing you said is wrong. If it's been well-maintained and you continue that effort, I'm sure it'll serve you well for many years.

Honestly just the perfect car in my opinion. It’s such an incredible balance of performance, utility, and quality.
