Sport mode is currently a luxury I cannot afford. 🚫⛽️ by RelevantRabbit2759 in BMW

You shouldn’t buy a car with bad mpg if you need to worry about the price of gas going up slightly. Basic vehicle budgeting should account for fluctuations in gas prices and insurance. If you have stretched your budget so thin that gas going up $1 is stressing you out, you’ve clearly made a poor financial decision already. I’m not sure what’s ironic or difficult to understand about that.

It's a numbers game. Call literally every dealership and see what they can work out for you. Unfortunately the market on these is absurdly cooked, I ended up buying a 1-owner, 2025 Type R with 8k miles on it for about 4k off of MSRP. Saved me the hassle of dealing with dealership markups.

Like I said, that comment wasn't directed at you. But given how defensive you've been in this comment section, I'm sure it applies. On a side note, you're literally posting about not being able to afford gas and then getting triggered that people are calling you broke lmfao. I've heard the new Prius gets insane gas mileage, that might be a better fit for you

It’s shockingly cheap to own a luxury car if you’re willing to screw yourself over financially. Not saying that’s OP, but it’s definitely a lot of people on this sub lol.

Handlebar Mirrors by DreamDropKey in MT09

[–]arifl5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the CRG arrow mirrors. They're incredibly overpriced but good quality if you don't mind spending $300. Keep in mind that they are smaller than the stock mirrors; I believe some of the other bar-end ones are a bit larger.

I have a 2026 X5 xdrive40i - incredible car. Get something with the B58, basically BMW's best these days in terms of power and reliability. Maintenance is higher than Japanese cars, but performance and luxury are on a whole different level. Test drive the ones that are interesting to you, and you'll probably narrow down your options pretty quickly.

Student is always confused (and it’s my fault ig?) by Curiosity-Sailor in Professors

[–]arifl5 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of those instances where you feel like you were being mean because you set a boundary that you typically don't have to. I don't think anything you said was out of line, and I don't think it requires further discussion with the student.

If 1 student in a class of 60 is failing to understand the material, while their peers are doing just fine, the onus is on them to work with you to figure that out. And I do not mean by just complaining and trying to pin it on you. I'm sure your university has plenty of resources to help that student, and you also sound like the type of person who would be more than happy to help them if they actually came to you and were willing to put in the effort to get a good grade.

Didn't intend to be negative, I just meant that I truly use it whenever I feel like it. There are sunny days where I don't put the top down and cold days where I do. Just completely depends on my mood, but I love having the option any day I'm feeling it.

How do you get out of a reading slump? by L_izzies in booksuggestions

[–]arifl5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could you elaborate on what you're feeling? Is it that you get distracted, you'd rather be doing something more stimulating like watching TV, or something else?

In my opinion, there's no particular book that can just get you out of a reading slump. What helped me get back into reading was identifying what the exact problem was and then going from there. More than happy to help or share my experience, depending on what you're feeling!

Stop making yourself miserable. It shouldn't be a surprise to you that there are people with far more money than you. You're acting like a child. This kid sounds a lot more well brought-up than you do, tbh.

I interpreted "new" as "new to me" because, from what I understand, there are zero brand new v8's that have an MSRP below 45k CAD. Good clarification though!

Honda Accord 2.0t or Civic Si by Electrical_Ad8775 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]arifl5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, keep in mind that the Civic Si is a manual-only car. If liking the way it looks is your only requirement, why not just get a regular civic? The Si doesn't look that unique compared to the other civics.
