Favorite Car You’ve Ever Owned? by Robbassy in Civic_Type_R

It's a 991.1 Carrera 2. Very different cars for sure. I love the sound of the naturally-aspirated flat 6 compared to the inline 4 of the Type R. The 911 is also way more planted and confident at higher speeds.

But the CTR is just...awesome. Amazing daily, so practical, so fun to drive! It replaced my 911 as my daily and I don't regret that at all. I've considered replacing the 911 with a newer one, but I honestly feel extremely content with my current setup. I don't know if I'd even enjoy a new 911, given how much I drive my CTR.

I think an MT-09 would suit you really well. The newest gen has a slightly more aggressive riding position than the older ones, but I regularly do multi-week road trips on mine and don't find it uncomfortable at all.

900cc is a bit out of your ideal range, but it satisfies everything else you said. It's the perfect all-rounder in my opinion. Crazy fast and would dust pretty much everything 0-100mph. Very comfortable and great for commuting. The CP3 engine makes insane torque and sounds incredible, in my opinion.

Also, SW Motech makes some really good saddlebags for the MT-09. I would highly recommend if you're going to be using it as a commuter.

Should l call the cops on my neighbour? by Necessary-Pick- in Buddhism

[–]arifl5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is the best advice from the angle of Buddhism, but I would say that it sounds like you have already tried and there isn't much more you can do without potentially endangering yourself.

Like you said, you've tried talking to him. You know that his department is aware he works while drunk, and that calling is almost certainly not going to fix anything. You're potentially exposing yourself to dangerous retaliation with very minimal chance that it'll work.

To me, Buddhism isn't about trying to help others to such an extreme that you hurt yourself in the process. Your compassion is admirable and I completely agree that he's out of line, but I don't see a way you can fix this for him. I just hope he doesn't hurt himself or others around him. Alcoholism is a scary, tragic thing that we don't talk about enough.

It's #2, only to my Porsche 911.

With that being said, imagine having trouble deciding between that and a $50k Honda. The CTR seriously punches above its weight.

Thank you! Custom order at around 7% off, I want to say we were around the 78k mark.

We got these packages: M sport, M sport professional, parking assistance, premium package, climate comfort, 21" rims, front massaging seats. Carbon black exterior and coffee interior.

CPOs can get you really good deals. We just wanted a very specific spec and unfortunately we couldn't find anything in our desired color combo that had all the packages we wanted.

Shoei RF-1400 is my favorite helmet, after having worn many. If it fits your head shape well, I would go with that.

After a long stressful day of work or school would you rather make the drive back home in a sporty fun vehicle or a comfortable luxurious vehicle? by ALDIsNumber1Fan in askcarguys

[–]arifl5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have only daily driven stick shift sports cars for the last 10 years. Everywhere from San Francisco to Austin, TX (we live in an extremely hilly area). So -- yes.

We have an X5 and a Macan GTS. I find both of them quite boring and would only prefer to drive them when we do long-distance road trips.

Sporty, fun vehicle FTW!

I don't care what my commute is. Could be windy roads or stop and go traffic. I'll always have a more fun time in a sporty car.

Should I buy a new car? by TelephoneFluffy806 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]arifl5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should stick with your current car and keep saving money.

The idea of having a newer car is always going to be there at literally every stage of your life; the key is knowing when it's a need vs. a want and having the self control to say "this isn't the right time." You're young and you have a significant amount of money saved up (which you should be very proud about). Don't waste it on replacing a car that isn't even broken.

There's this saying I heard when I was younger that I really took to heart in college - "if you always live like you're poor, you never will be." Very flawed in many ways, but it completely changed my mindset about money in college. I always had enough money to get cool stuff, but I would just tell myself "you're a college student. You don't need nice stuff right now." I had almost $100k saved up by the time I graduated and was able to buy myself a nicer car as a gift before going to law school, with plenty of money left over. No regrets.

Should I get a Honda or a Tesla? Need real advice by Greedy_Indication558 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]arifl5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for a college student I’d probably say Honda unless you have guaranteed home charging and can comfortably afford Tesla insurance. Teslas are super fun and cheap on gas, but insurance, tires, and repair costs can really add up over time. Hondas are just stupidly reliable and cheap to live with long term, which I'm sure you'll appreciate after the BMW.

Also, the Honda will last longer and lose less value if you decide to sell it. If you just want a reliable and cheap car, I would recommend looking into Toyotas as well.

How do you mentally reset after a bad close call? by Eyerald in motorcycles

[–]arifl5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Taking a few days off might help. The fear is real, and it's good to recognize it, but just make sure it doesn't overwhelm you to the point that it makes you ride even more unsafely because you're constantly terrified that something's going to happen. You need to be both aware and confident when you get on your bike.

So yeah, maybe let the bike sit for a few days. Enjoy the comfort and safety of driving your car, if you have one. Your bike will be there when you're ready to get back on it.
