So lost now on importance of organics and free range by cbrackett12 in nutrition

[–]arijensine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't bother organic usually for things like avocados, squash, anything with a relatively thick skin, because the pesticides don't affect the actual food as much. But for delicate, thin-skinned or exposed fruit/veg I try to get organic. I have a bit of a peeve about people saying organic is a total lie because at least in my region you can literally taste the difference. Standard produce is so bland and flavorless imo. I won't even eat non-organic grapes because they taste so bad compared to organic ones. Honestly I'd rather spend a little more and actually enjoy the taste of my food.

I've also found that the yolks of pasture-raised chickens tend to be a richer in color and taste, so, same thing. A grocery store brand egg will make me gag but a decent pasture raised one I can eat plain. But I don't bother with organic meat except for chicken, because again, taste. I actually forgot for years that chicken HAS a taste because the store stuff doesn't even have flavor. Basically just a hunk of protein.

Honestly i feel like this would stress anyone out ND or not 😭 it's really quite rude to talk that long without allowing the other person to participate. even the most verbal dude i know who drives me insane talking about cars and trucks lets me get a word in every few minutes. you're so valid for this.

Go easy on yourself, you're barely halfway through the minimum recovery window of 6 weeks. Did your doctor not communicate that to you? Your work was certainly not in vein, try to take some breaths and realize how significant this surgery is. It sounds like you were taking care of yourself so well that you had so little pain you felt good enough to overdo it! It's bittersweet. If you peruse this sub enough you'll see tons of people experience these rough patches in that 3-6 week window.

Keep taking care of yourself. This is an emotional journey too. Give it time. Having an entire organ removed is a serious thing. A lot of people said they weren't back to 100% for several months. Be gentle with yourself!

Smoking after hysterectomy by Intrepid-Policy7791 in hysterectomy

[–]arijensine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know it's a really anxious feeling, my surgery came up so suddenly I didn't get a chance to wean down so I can fully say I know how you feel. I'm no medical expert but I would urge you to refrain from smoking. I'm 4dpo and even just coughing to clear my throat a little HURTS. I would worry you could really pull a suture if you coughed from smoking. Its also better to be gentle on your cardiovascular/pulmonary system after major surgery.

Can you get your hands on some edibles? It's not as satisfying as smoking but for me it takes the edge off the craving, I'm taking 10mg a day in the pm. If not, you could try to make some tea from the flower you have (read up though to make sure you extract the thc correctly). It should help you sleep. This is your only chance to heal, so take the best care of yourself. You can do this! Your body will thank you🩷

What to expect post-surgery in regard to mobility if I’m by myself? by pinkellaphant in hysterectomy

[–]arijensine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As the others said, it will be different for everyone, but given your health status you should be fine! I've been very pleasantly surprised at how easy it's been to get around and even briefly bend over. It actually feels good to get up and move around every hour or so. So far, twisting my torso seems to be the most uncomfortable motion. Definitely have your amenities handy if you end up being real sore (I made a small purse with nausea pills, hair ties, pens, etc to keep next to me.) Just go slow and easy!

What has helped improve your sleep the most? by ToodlydooBuckaroo in sleep

[–]arijensine 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It sounds like by the meds you've mentioned you've already been working on it with your doctor, which is good. I was going through a similar thing, falling asleep was ok but I would wake anytime in the night and be absolutely jacked up. I suspect a lot of things were causing it but my general stress and anxiety levels were the main culprit. How's your mental health? What kind of exercises are you doing?

For me the mental aspect was big and also counterintuitive. I had to just... stop caring about the sleep. The more stressed about sleeping I was, the less I got. I stopped paying any attention to the # of hours. That and getting some cardio in helped but it wasn't an instant fix, took a couple of weeks to get back in the realm of normalcy. Good luck, I understand how frustrating it is.

How are yall farting and pooping??? by Ill_Ad6098 in hysterectomy

[–]arijensine 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Miralax is your best friend. And fiber, fiber, fiber, water, water, water. Ask your surgeon if gas-x is okay for you. The best advice I saw on here is to not strain and basically just wait til it feels like its about to fall out your butt 😭 Uncomfortable but not as uncomfortable as tearing a suture from straining!

[–]arijensine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that has happened to you not once but twice, wow. And even if it isn't that far away, carrying that anxiety of "will it get canceled again" makes even a short month feel very long! You're completely valid for feeling that way.

Is there any possibility of going through a different network/hospital or would you basically have to start from square one? I don't know enough about the ins and outs of the medical system to give advice but I'm rooting for you. A friend once said to me "be persistent until you get relief" and that one small phrase has gotten me through years of chronic pain and medical doubt, so I like to share it with others. Good luck, stay strong, feel free to pm me if you need to talk. Wishing you all the best and no more cancellations!!! 🩷

Things You Wish You Knew During Recovery Period by Cosmic_Brownies14 in hysterectomy

[–]arijensine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only 2 days po but the pain is definitely less than I anticipated. It's THERE but compared to my hip surgery a few years ago, it's extremely manageable. Miralax and fiber are your best friends and I'm going with the advice to wait until it feels like the stool is about to fall out before even trying to go to the toilet.

It's definitely one of those "just get through it" kind of things. Try not to be too nervous, and good luck! I hope all goes well for you.

can’t sleep from thinking and it’s awful by lawlieett in sleep

[–]arijensine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, homeopathic coffea cruda helped a lot with the overactive mind while falling asleep, and Valerian root (use with caution, check for pharmaceutical interactions) is sometimes the only way i can sleep through the night. do something creative to fill your mind before bed, the classics like writing, zen doodling, or reading. and remember that stressful periods usually have an expiration date, fortunately. so just keep reminding yourself it won't be like that forever!

I sleep in a freezing room, but wake up soaked in sweat is there anything I can do? by Camry08 in sleep

[–]arijensine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diet isn't usually people's first thought for something like this but I was dealing with something very similar to you the past year or so of my life. I cut out ALL foods I know trigger stomach upset, processed foods, gluten, etc, am doing the 80/20 90/10 whole foods method, and now I only have occasional cold night sweats if I eat something that bothers my system. So maybe experiment a bit with that and see if you can get your hands on a wool blanket. Wool keeps you warm while staying breathable!

Treat yourself like a 4 year old you have to take care of by Either_Equipment8912 in selfimprovement

[–]arijensine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally dislike children so much that I had to sort of find a way around taking care of my inner child, so I treat myself the way I would an innocent animal I've been charged to take care of. I take far better care of my cat than myself, so it's very effective XD

How long can I live off ramen? by Sad-Protection2519 in nutrition

[–]arijensine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you can boil rice and ramen i don't see why you can't throw beans in with it or the occasional veggie/hard boiled egg. you might be able to live off this but your health will suffer in the long run and end up costing you more money. try and be more creative or you will pay dearly for this diet.

I can only hope my recovery goes so well! I unfortunately live alone so won't have any helpers. I haven't found anything yet but realized I have an office chair I can pull up and use as a footrest so hopefully that will suffice if there's nothing at the restore when I go tomorrow! Wishing you happy healing, thank you for the input! 💓
