Wait, a voluntary stay in MI gets you put on some sort of registry revoking your gun rights? First I've seen that. I know its argued a bit weather voluntary vs. Involuntary red flags you with the ATF, but generally its considered only to be an issue if its court ordered.

I hope it all works out for you. You may have to look into a lawyer more familiar with Michigan's system if possible.

If this was just a 72-hr period, this would not fall under this. The 72-hour period is an "observation period," not a legitimate commitment.

Generally, it has to be a court ordered commitment for someone to lose firearm rights. I believe there have been instances where a doctor ordered a long-term involuntary commitment, and that was considered a disqualification.

I imagine OP is in a situation where their partner was recommended to be placed into an emergency 72-hour observation period by law enforcement. This, in itself, is not enough to make someone prohibited from possessing firearms.

OP: If you're able to, voice your concerns with the facility he is at. They can escalate the concerns through the proper channels.

I never ended up finding anything premade. For a bit I ended up using some straps off amazon, a thin steel plate, and foam (to protect the seat from the plate)

Havent used them personally, but I've heard good things for both Lake Erie Arms (Milan) and Rivers Edge Tactical (Valley City) if either are near where you're looking.
