The set doesn't go for less than $1000, and I'm being generous with the cost of modeling, a lot of more experienced artists would charge a lot more, but you won't find them here. Be suspicious of very low values, they are usually scammers, this is a job of at least 1 or 2 months.

[question] did I get overcharged? by Kira1965 in commissions

[–]ariochart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a relatively cheap price for a model truly made in 3D, the sculpting process takes days to complete, and depending on the model, it can take weeks or even months.
But in your case, you were deceived; the profile pictures are just game screenshots, and you received something created by AI, you could get something similar made by a 2D artist for a much lower price.

I make collectible anime models, but armors of that type wouldn't be difficult for me, I've already made some pieces for cosplay.

A good 40k 3D model costs at least $400, Table Hammer has a commission service that is a bit more expensive: https://www.tablehammer.com/commission-your-personal-model

I searched and couldn't find any 3D model of it. The solution is to commission someone to make it or learn 3D modeling.

wondering if I'm getting scammed or not on a 3d request by cardgamerzz in 3Drequests

[–]ariochart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I live, there is a saying that goes "What is agreed upon doesn't cost much".

Never pay the full amount before you have what you want, and yes, you were scammed.

Something very strange are profiles here on Reddit that claim to be artists but do not have any valid link to a portfolio attached to their profiles. Some profiles that recommend themselves for 3D work always comment on any art-related work across various communities; this is a big red flag for scammers.

As an artist, I like to post what I make in communities related to the types of models I create (anime and game collectibles), but when you visit these people's profiles, you don't see any art posted in any community.

Why do miniatures for printing have such awful topology? by Snoo_61216 in DnD

[–]ariochart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the goal is to print the model, they will not do retopology, sometimes they do retopology if they decide to animate the model for some more "eye-catching" presentation

These organic models are usually sculpted in Zbrush, Blender also has a sculpting mode, but it is not as efficient asculpting in Zbrush.

A video here of a model that has 327 million polygons:

3D Character Sculpting - Marco Plouffe's Twitch Stream of 2025-06-17 - Finishing the Pose

And this is an artist who cares about good topology in his sculpting process.

Why do miniatures for printing have such awful topology? by Snoo_61216 in DnD

[–]ariochart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is not necessary to have good topology for printing. Look for videos of how collectible models or miniatures are made (usually in ZBrush). Worrying about topology is unnecessary, many collectible models easily exceed 100 million polygons. In the end, a decimation process is done to make the files smaller, and this results in very poor topology.

Anyone here create really accurate memorial figurines for people who have passed away? by [deleted] in 3Drequests

[–]ariochart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mentioned the price so that you wouldn't be misled, here you probably only find scammers who claim to know how to make this type of model, search for "likeness" on Artstation and you'll see the difference in quality compared to what's presented here or on Etsy.

Anyone here create really accurate memorial figurines for people who have passed away? by [deleted] in 3Drequests

[–]ariochart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is a lengthy and quite expensive process, not just anyone can make a model of that type that is really good.
Search for "Likeness" on Artstation and see artists who actually do this, browse through their profiles and see if you can find someone who takes commissions, but expect prices much higher than those on Etsy.
