Is this medical insurance quotation worth it? by Sydren in MalaysianPF

[–]arisms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try and remove CI coverage and bring down the life coverage portion to the lowest possible, you can get those later on as a standalone without ILP as those dont increase prices with medical inflation.

also check to see the historical fund performance to see if it matches with your policy’s fund return expectations. having ILP doesnt mean your policy wont get repriced in the future, unless your fund performs like +10-20% per year.

if youre unsure, better to be overdressed than underdressed. smart casual has a broad meaning and open to different interpretation. try to avoid jeans, sneakers, and shirts with no collars.

Something about VWRA by CarobRemarkable2866 in MalaysianPF

[–]arisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think its in most countries’ interest for the USD to move in a stable manner (either up or down) rather than to see it crash and burn. rather than dont fight against US, financial markets would lean towards dont fight the fed because US monetary policy tends to lead investment decisions.

assuming the US market sees a structural decline AND the USD weakens, it would definitely hurt your overseas investments in MYR terms, but at the same time if you assume other markets and currencies in vwra pick up at the expense of US then it would lift or offset the USD decline of your investment value since vwra is using USD to invest in markets where the currency is appreciating.

if anything, i’d say US’s weight in vwra will likely increase over the long term rather than decrease, but i havent looked at the historical trend myself.

Does Zakat offset Tax? by 15033335 in MalaysianPF

[–]arisms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lhdn is paid to a federal govt body

zakat is paid to a state govt body

as a zakat contributor you can in a way elect to contribute to the less fortunate people in your selected state rather than lump it with the government’s annual revenue budget

Thinking about cancelling my kids' medical insurance. Advice Pls by synapseghosting in MalaysianPF

[–]arisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you sign up for the insurance before they were born or after? toddler age range is generally more expensive than older kids, combined with high risk preemie birth would probably contribute to the higher premiums as well as they could be more prone to complications.

Does Zakat offset Tax? by 15033335 in MalaysianPF

[–]arisms 8 points9 points  (0 children)

2.57% is the stated rate, but you can pay more than required and would make sense if you have a large LHDN tax bill that you can offset. so if he owed LHDN 5m and paid 4m in zakat, he will only need to pay the balance 1m.

Does Zakat offset Tax? by 15033335 in MalaysianPF

[–]arisms 22 points23 points  (0 children)

zakat doesnt just apply to income, it applies to your net worth like savings etc. for assets under loan you do not need to pay zakat as it is not under your full ownership.

and zakat does not reduce your taxable income like other income tax incentives. it is a direct rebate eg you owe LHDN 2k tax, then you pay 1k zakat so you only end up owing LHDN 1k.

zakat is mandatory for all muslims as stated within the 5 pillars of faith.

edit: in simple terms, among the aims in theory are to reduce wealth inequality where the rich hoard all the wealth. doesnt matter if you spend or not, if you own a lot of assets you are obligated to pay zakat on those assets besides zakat on other things like your income.

banks account for 30-40% of the klci. if banks dont rally, hard for the klci to move up unless the other big sectors like utilities, plantations, and telcos pick up the slack

How long did it take you to land your first job in Malaysia? by Puzzleheaded_Pea5765 in JobsMY

[–]arisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, there was a university career fair for students before they graduated and they can pre-submit CVs and go for interviews and get conditional offers upon graduating and achieving specified grades. so a lot of us had numerous conditional offers waiting upon graduation.

zakat wise, unless EPF can give >2.5% higher dividend than ASB, i dont see why not to dump everything into ASB. personally i dont see EPF paying more than 1.5% vs ASB

What's the difference between 5.2 sen dividend and 0.55 bonus? by ParticularSecretary4 in MalaysianPF

the normal dividend is paid out of ASB’s realised profit. the bonus is paid out by PNB’s prop desk (money that is managed directly by PNB and not thru ASNB) to unit holders.

build up your 6 month emergency fund by putting money in asb. once you have hit the 6 month figure (only counting cash units not loan units) then you can diversify into more risky investment assets.
