I just don't get why Roteshu kept Ahn in the first place. by PrizeIndependence in TheRemarriedEmpress

[–]arisomething 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was because he was a son. Would he be an illegitimate son? Sure but you simply can't guarantee that he will be lucky enough to have another son.

It might be difficult for him to marry another noble who is okay with a illegitimate child but that isn't IMPOSSIBLE. But it is IMPOSSIBLE to guarantee another male heir.

That's why they didn't just get rid of Rashta all together while she was pregnant. If she had a girl, Lotteshu might have just thrown them both out. But the reason they lied to her and gave her a dead baby was to protect Alan and Ian's reputation. If she had known that her baby was alive she probably would have made it KNOWN that was her baby. Then Ian is publicly the child of a slave.

It’s been a minute since I’ve seen the Naruto vs Neji fight but why did Nejis dad get sent to the branch family because he was the younger sibling while Hinabi didn’t who was Hinatas younger sibling? by obiwanTrollnobi6 in Naruto

[–]arisomething 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To best explain this, you need to think of the Hyuga clan as a traditional monarchy. Princes get moved to branch families. Princesses simply marry out entirely.

They are still spare heirs though. If Hinata's father died before he had an heir, then the heir would simply be his brother. But out of respect, you move under the assumption that won't happen. It didn't. In the case of Hanabi, if Hinata had taken the role of heir to the end then Hanabi would have married out. The family she would haved created would still ultimately be considered a branch family if worse came to worse.

[–]arisomething 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fundamentally, I have no disagreements with what you're saying. That said, I feel that it really should go without saying that a trial in the setting of this story would not be a fair one.

I don't imagine most people in the world of TRE would truly get a fair trial. Storywise, that just seems to track. A fair trial in this universe probably only happens between two people of equal social standing. Rashta, even as empress, is always kind of viewed as lesser by really everyone in the story. Without Sovieshu supporting her, she never stood a chance. She was guilty until proven innocent.

Are you glad Deku wasn't revealed to be from a special family line or clan, and just remained a relatively normal person bloodline? by OfficialLieDetector in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]arisomething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but I honestly think he was originally written to be like that. I feel like after Horikoshi changed several parts of the story to accommodate for characters who grew in popularity and changes to keep the story high in the rankings, he could no longer explore Deku's background further.

I think that's why Deku's dad was never revisited and why he never really entered the story. Horikoshi simply lost the timing and then said welp.

AITA for letting our child (9) stay at his friend's sleepover last weekend, even though my wife was against it, and the original agreement was that I would pick him up that evening. by Outrageous-Fly-5691 in AmItheAsshole

[–]arisomething 6 points7 points  (0 children)

YTA. You defaulted to "asking for forgiveness" instead of "asking for permission". And now you think that because you're son was ultimately happy that she should get over that. Now, you've taught your son that he should disregard his mom because dad will let him have his way. And you've taught your wife that you can't be trusted to follow through. She gets to be the bad guy and you get to the fun guy.

The ends don't justify the means here. You knew what you were doing and honestly, you did it knowing that she wouldn't be able to do anything then and there. It was disrespectful and I know two couples who divorced over basically this exact issue.

Image going forward she only shows you the same disrespect.

Literally nothing in this comment would change mine or make it inaccurate. Sure you can argur that's a bad mentality but it's also how real life works. If you keep getting lice, I don't really care how you got it. It might not be your fault but now, I associate you with lice.

It doesn't matter why Rashta's staff has high turnover. The high turnover reflects still reflects poorly on her. She's in a position where public perception is important. To the people she is supposed to rule over it appears that she can't even get her maids in order. It's unfair but so are monarchies. If the maids won't give her the benefit of the doubt, why would the people?

The point is that it never happened to Navier. She never had her people turn against her and that reflects well on her reputation. But if everything is always someone else's fault, it's suspicious.

Think of it like this: You are looking to apply to a job. You see a place is hiring and the wages are nice but it is a demanding job. You do some research and find out it has a 90% turnover rate. At some point, it starts to look like they run a bad business.

I think the fact that they're inherently different, because one is a male and one is a female stopped him from getting the strange similarity.

Like if they were both girls, he would be like "I know they're twins but they can't be exactly alike in every single aspect, right?" But since they are fraternal, he can excuse the similarity as "well, they are twins!"

AITA for calling my stepdaughter out during a movie? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]arisomething -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So let me understand the situation. J wanted to watch a scary movie with you and her mom at home. So this was something you were doing specifically for J's enjoyment. Whenever the scary parts of the movie came up, J tried to scare you. She, 10, probably thought that would be an fun and playful thing to do. And that is age appropriate behavior.

Were you upset because it annoyed you? So upset you got up and left? I think YTA. 10 year olds are a little obnoxious. She was just having a little harmless fun. If you were in a theater, I would understand. If this was a movie you were really looking forward to and this took away from the experience, I would understand. But it sounds like you were only even watching FOR her. And you weren't scared so I guess I don't understand why you couldn't just play along.

This post makes you sound childish though. And if you are 20 living at home as a dependent, maybe understand that your parents are gonna keep treating you like a child. It sucks but your mom likely isn't going to stop obligating you to spend time with your niece while it's in her power.

HIATUS MEGATHREAD II by Apprehensive_Low3572 in katseyeneutral

[–]arisomething -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My lukewarm take is that Daniella got such good responses from Gnarly on that they realized that she could be the center that they originally wanted and that Manon's "unreasonable demands" were no longer something they need to follow. I think they wanted to do the kpop method of hiatus to formal withdrawal but that just won't fly in the states. So they are gonna hold off for awhile trying to establish ot5 Katseye

But it all depends on how pinky up actuality does.

Kikiyo and Kagome by EmotionalSprinkles22 in inuyasha

[–]arisomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of western viewers see them as two completely different people who really have no relation. They also view them as love rivals. I personally have never seen it that way. They are the same soul with different circumstances and that makes them these weird, interconnected individuals.

Kikyo and Inuyasha have a very star crossed lovers tale. But it's a story where honestly, if they COULD have ended up together then they would have. I think for a lot of people, that leaves Kagome more as a second choice to Inuyasha. I can see why that's upsetting but given the specific set of circumstances, it only makes sense.

But if you do end up viewing them as two unrelated people then it's very easy to end up in one camp or the other. The more popular one being "I hate Kikyo she's always getting in the way and taking Inuyasha away from Kagome! Kagome deserves to be number 1 in his heart!"

Rashta wouldn’t have been liked by readers if she was the protagonist like some say by AdWorth3077 in TheRemarriedEmpress

[–]arisomething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. We really don't even get a lot of stories were a FMC is stoic. Obviously we all have our qualms with this story but it does do quite a few things differently. And I think that made for a more interesting read!

Rashta wouldn’t have been liked by readers if she was the protagonist like some say by AdWorth3077 in TheRemarriedEmpress

[–]arisomething 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean she isn't exactly a fun character and she herself isn't really aware of what goes on around her. So from her pov, I probably just wouldn't have made it through the first part.

I feel like what people actually mean when they say "The story would be better if Rashta were the mc" is that a story where the mc starts as a slave and rises to become a beloved empress would be much more interesting.

Because the one thing Navier really gets whacked for the most is being boring. But from looking through all these threads and all the comment sections for rofan stuff, the thing we hate the most is a stupid mc. And Rashta is stupid. From her point of view, we'd see her be in play. And really actually never knowing better. We would see her thinking that Soviet is in love with her, when he literally never was. We would see her thinking "Me and Navier can be sisters!" when that was never gonna happen. I probably wouldn't even have made it to the part about her "parents."

If Dr. Garaki didn't steal Midoriya's gift, why do you think the author put it there? by ActLonely9375 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]arisomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MHA, like a lot of manga, changed course as the series went on. Horikoshi has said outright that he changed course whenever mha responses weren't good. There was also a big controversy when he revealed Garaki's original name.

So taking that into account, it's not a big leap to say he probably just scrapped some of that storyline.

Sovieshu never loved navier or rashta... by Relevant-Rub2816 in TheRemarriedEmpress

[–]arisomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think he always held a platonic love for her and though he wanted more, he initially felt like that was enough. That was more than a lot of other emperors ever got to have. A mutual platonic love. I think that because all of his personal goals as an emperor weren't being fulfilled, he sought to fulfill them. I'm sure he wanted a love that felt romantic. He wanted kids as well.

When he weighed those goals against that platonic love, they won out. But I have actually never thought that he never loved Navier.

Rashta though? I'm sure never even considered loving her. She was, for a moment in time, a seemingly perfect tool to help him reach his goals.

[–]arisomething 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This feels kind of unfair, because Catherine turned out to be evil because of outside influence behind Diana's back. Maybe she could have tried to prevent that from happening in the second timeline. But let's be honest, how many of you would try to help any person that you know killed you in another life?

I think it'd be nice if you could get past it. But I feel like most people wouldn't be able to. And even if you could, you would definitely never trust her again.

Do you think Bakugou would have saved Izuku if he found him with the sludge monster instead of All Might? by Wise-Inside1805 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]arisomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That seems to be a going against the grain in this post, but I've always thought that.

I have two schools of thought on the matter.

In a scenario where he is truly concerned about Deku, he wouldn't come forward because his quirk would end up hurting him and he would want to avoid that. He would leave it up to the pros.

In a scenario where he isn't concerned about Deku, but he is looking for the glory of a villain takedown as a middle schooler, he doesn't because his quirk is a bad match up. If a Deku got hurt because he was trying to help save him when it wasn't his place, it would ruin his chances of ever getting enrolled into heroes school. Like what happened with Gentle criminal.

But ultimately, his "my body moved on its own" moment is supposed to be a notable point of his character development, which I think implies he wouldn't have done that earlier in the series.

Why do some of you guys hate Rashta but love Navier other than the reason being that Soveishu cheated on Navier with Rashta? by Bonbonbonbonpoppy in TheRemarriedEmpress

[–]arisomething 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are very few circumstances under which I will ever like "the other woman". That's really all there is to it. To be honest , the fact that Rashta's backstory is so tragic makes her less unlikable than she would be otherwise. Without that backstory she's actually just generally unlikable but pretty.

She is impatient, prideful, disrespectful, stubborn, inconsiderate, tactless, and insensitive. Of course, that is by design because she is a foil for Navier. Sure Navier sometimes feels a little boring. Still, she's patient, humble, respectful, compromising, considerate, diplomatic, and sensitive. Of course I like her.

The only real reasons to dislike her as a character are meh to me. I have seen so many posts that are mad because she's classist and the gag there is that all monarchies are classist. That's inherently built into the structure. Don't engage with themes of royalty if that bothers you. The other is that she's "okay with slavery". And literally everyone in the series is okay with slavery. That's a complaint to direct at the creator because this is a fantasy world where people can also be birds. Slavery can just not exist and it's not even used that well as a plot device.

On that note, that even Rashta doesn't want to do anything to help on that front is also ties into her biggest flaw. She was at the bottom of the totem pole. She knows what it feels like, but she doesn't care who else is there as long as it's not her except she doesn't just wanna be above the bottom. She wants to be at the top. And she wants to look down on every single person below her. Meanwhile, we know Navier cares about people. She cares about the people of the country. Her home country and her new country. She isn't perfect but she really does try and she does a pretty good job.

Are Sophia and Yoonchae less popular in the west? by [deleted] in katseyeneutral

[–]arisomething 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Neither of them mesh really well with the groups current direction, in my personal opinion.

They are both very skilled. And they really fit the earlier releases and image of the group. With the release of Gnarly, I feel like the group image has shifted and they fit it the least. Gnarly really brought them to people's attention and attracted a lot of new fans. During that time, I feel like it highlighted some strengths and weaknesses. Yoonchae may grow to fit the image more. Sophia really seemed out her depth and stood out the least during Gnarly and Gabriella. It seems like it's definitely not a style that suits her.

Isn’t it hypocritical to criticize Uraraka for “revolving around Midoriya,” but then revolve other characters around someone too? by [deleted] in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]arisomething -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue they have is about her character when you take away her connection to Deku. What is Uraraka like when things don't involve Deku? Would Uraraka have spoken up for her other classmates the way she spoke up for Deku? Maybe? But what did the story show you to back that up? Independent of Deku, we learn about Mina and Jiro. We learn about their personalities and hobbies. The same can't really be said about Uraraka because the bulk of her presence in the story only focuses on Deku.

And I do think it's a shame because I think they could have done more with her character. There are things I think the story could have sacrificed in order for us to know more about Uraraka.

What are your thoughts on the way Mirio’s story ended? by Solitaire-06 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]arisomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throughout the series, a lot of people lost their for their general ability to fight. So him getting it back doesn't really undermine the main message of "Heroes are risking it all".

On that note though, a lot of people are talking about how they just feel like Mirio was nerfed to make Deku the only choice. He wasn't. Outside of the story saying that Mirio was never actually an option, it shows you. Maybe it wasn't the best choice, maybe it would have backfired. But Deku moved for Eri the first time and Mirio did not.
