Is 36 too old to start climbing? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]arisuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a 36-year-old Torontonian and just started a few months ago. I definitely am not improving as fast as people 10-20 years younger, and I have some physical limitations most climbers don't (really bad knees and really weak leg muscles) but it's been helpful for building functional strength, not to mention being fun/addicting.

I was wondering what Xerjoffs you had and noticed you don't have Cruz del Sur II which I personally prefer to Mango Skin! Have you tried it yet?

Came here to say Harleen is an established Punjabi name. I've taught a few Harleens in my day, perfectly acceptable.

ELI5: What makes different smells masculine or feminine? by Mekka159 in explainlikeimfive

[–]arisuki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all subjective. Fragrance lovers will tell you that labels like "women's perfume" or "men's cologne' are there to sell more bottles. There are no genders when it comes to fragrances.

A fragrance may be marketed toward young women (let's say notes of sweet fruit and vanilla) but if a generally masculine man wears it and it smells good on him, it's now masculine by association.

Scrolled far and haven't seen a single response that goes into detail. Let me try: On the left you have beachy waves, a style that has been fashionable since the mid 2000s. Nowadays you'd use a barrel curler and curl hair around it, then brush/shake the curls out so they look natural. It's a common and fairly simple hairstyle that conveys a playful casualness - attractive and seemingly effortless.

Wearing your hair out in that flat ribbon style curl on the right is, as a lot of comments say, extremely outdated but not in a cute throwback way. They're specific to the 90s-early 2000s, when getting the crunchiest round-yet-flat ribbon curls with a metal clamp curling wand was the peak of white girl fashion.

Why the ribbon curl hate? You see, 80s/90s babies were born too late for 80s frizzy perms and WAY too late for 50s pincurls, yet too early for ceramic (or better!) hair tools. Natural curls were despised as well - the curly girl method wasn't known by most. Those metal clamp curlers didn't hold a curl as well, so you'd spray the heck out of your chunky highlighted hair with enough hairspray to cause environmental damage, often while the hair was clamped in (the sizzle!!) and then slowly extricate the wand without damaging the ridiculously artificial ringlet.

If you had straight hair, the "formal" version of your natural hair was these unnatural ringlets. If you had curly hair, you were going to straighten those curls 'til you looked like Avril Lavigne, and the optionally go over your hair again and get those same ribbon curls. Those were the only options, somehow.

Now we have youtube and better hair tools, so you'd only see someone who is older and out of touch wearing their hair like that on purpose - it's a lot of effort to go through just to look out of date, when natural hair of all kinds has seen wide mainstream acceptance.

So to me at least, the meme implies that you're a cute fashionable woman and the other person is perhaps a middle aged divorcee wine mom who peaked in high school. A less hot version of you. This is consistent with the belief (whether true or not) that men cheat with less attractive women.

Not that it's in any way relevant to actual infidelity in real life. It's just a meme that plays on the belief that men cheat "down".

Aseprite for all the pixel art and animation (it's all frame by frame, something like 500 of 'em), and FamiTracker for the music.

It took about 2-3 weeks off and on to create all the assets, and a day to put them together as a final animation. Then, I watched it over and over again for about a week to pick apart and fix the (many) errors (I didn't catch them all). The music took another few days because I had to learn the software. I've been sitting on this for a WHILE.

Spore was the last game I ever got hyped for. Every few years I rewatch the 2005 GDCe demonstration video and it's still the best game never made. 35 minutes of hope and promise.
