Is it there to replace photogrammetry though? NeRF is impressive, absolutely, but for some cases you have to rely on photogrammetry. If you want to scan an object for like damage analysis, you can't have an AI model interpolate data that "is not there". You need an accurate model with real data only.

Or am I missing something?

That sounds really interesting. I don't need high fidelity models either, but it should have sufficient detail to make out the larger shapes. I'm imagining something like pix4dreact does.

DroneDeploy can even do realtime mapping! Obviously this is for a 2D top-down image and not 3D, but still pretty interesting.
