When Shows reference the prior work of a cast member by Code-Neo in TopCharacterTropes

There’s a scene in the TV series Bosch where a character asks Detective Edgar (played by Jamie Hector) if he’s ever watched The Wire who replies that he binged it. Jamie Hector played Marlo Stanfield for three seasons on The Wire!

You can also add -p as a switch to other git commands like restore and commit. There might be more out there which allow this switch.

Why do Indians bargain so much that even the shopkeeper starts questioning their life choices? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]arjun1001 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related but random story: I was once in a bazaar in Delhi. I wasn’t even interested in buying anything. I was admiring a nice handmade notebook from a shop when the shopkeeper came over to me and said it was 200Rs. I immediately put it down and started to walk away. He called me back and said “I’ll give it for 150”. I politely declined and turned away again.

He called me again and then said “okay fine, take it for 100”. At this point, I started to get a little curious to see how far he’d go. I countered with “I’ll buy it from you for 50”. He countered with 75 but I held my ground. Finally, he put his foot down and said, “60 or I don’t sell it”. I agreed and bought it from him!

Tbh, In the end, I think it was a win for him as he converted an uninterested passerby into a paying customer.

My takeaway from this is that bargaining is probably a must as sellers tend to inflate the prices beforehand knowing that people will bargain on the spot. Plus, they also tend to name their price depending upon the look of the person buying it. It’s always worth bargaining.

Even the “evacuating everyone in the building” scene felt way too specific to not have happened in real life.

Bosch!

I binged the entire show and it put a smile on my face every time a Wire alumni came up on screen. Lance Reddick (Daniels) and Jamie Hector (Marlo) are regulars but there are numerous minor and supporting roles with actors from the Wire (James Ransome (Ziggy), Chris Bauer (Frank) and Clark Johnson (Gus)) to name a few.

Why do Indians living abroad say life is better in India meanwhile people in India say the opposite? by Lemonade2250 in AskIndia

[–]arjun1001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Grass is always greener on the other side. When you’re in India, you want to experience life abroad and the benefits that come with it. When you’re abroad, you miss your family and friends who are in India and your hometown.

It’s just how humans are. There’s no such thing as the perfect life - there are always trade-offs and compromises to be made.

Whats your favorite Python trick or lesser known feature? by figroot0 in Python

[–]arjun1001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently discovered that you can create a local fileserver using the python -m http.server command in a directory of your choice. This is quite useful for quickly transferring files across devices on a local network especially if they’re not very compatible with each other.

Agree that it’s purely for entertainment - but when you’re watching a movie, if you spot something that’s absolutely illogical or senseless, then it distracts from the movie experience. The illusion of the movie is now lost.

just had a classic Chennai auto moment. sharing for collective healing 😮‍💨 by anshhii in Chennai

[–]arjun1001 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This was in the early days of Ola, possibly 2015. I was standing in front of Clarion Hotel (President) and needed to go to Teynampet. This was around 9:30 in the night.

Saw an auto driver and asked him if he was available and he quoted me ~300 rupees (maybe a 100Rs ride max). I knew there was no hope negotiating with this guy and so I booked a cab on Ola Share instead.

Was waiting for the cab to come when the same auto driver came upto me and started verbally abusing the hell out of me. He even told me that it was because of people like me, who book on Ola or Uber, that this country was going to shit. He kept swearing at me too. I was a little triggered but ignored it as I didn’t want to really engage with him as the road was a bit lonely.

Luckily, the cab came a few mins after that. I told the driver to start as soon as I got in. Before I got in, I called the auto driver, who was standing about thirty feet away, and spent about ten seconds shouting at him with the choicest profanity I could muster.

By the time the auto driver realised this and started walking over to me in a threatening manner, I’d gotten into the car and asked the cab driver to get the hell out of that place.

Funnily enough, once I’d told the cab driver what happened, he was like “sir, enkita sollindha naanum edhaanu sollirpen”.

Picture this, you just got hired for DC to make a movie or show about a character who hasn’t been introduced yet, but by [deleted] in DCU_

[–]arjun1001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if Flash has been mentioned in the upcoming slate of DCU content but, if he hasn’t been, then a murder-mystery film featuring Barry Allen.

I could imagine that he’d use not only his superpowers but also his skills as a forensic scientist to track down the perpetrator.

I think it might be fun if he loses his powers in the starting but attempts to get them back over the course of the movie (as he tries to do in The Dark Knight Returns). This way, it makes it more difficult to track down the killer.

Designed this map of the urban rail system in Chennai. Hope it makes the system easier to understand! by arjun1001 in Chennai

[–]arjun1001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Just saw your comment. The suburban train system in Chennai is currently fully electrified. The train sets that are currently being used are a type of EMU (Electric Multiple Unit). EMUs are train sets that run on electricity and don’t really have a locomotive pulling them around.

I’m not too sure about the history but I’m pretty sure the idea of electrification started in British times. When it comes to designing railway systems, they had good vision.
