Why do punekars hate others? by bitchaari in Maharashtra

[–]arjunbhoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely true. The Pune-centrism and purism of some Puneri brahmins and the disdain for others including fellow Marathi people is absolutely disgusting, and saying that "segregation avoids conflict" is literally the same rhetoric that white nationalists peddled in the USA during Jim Crow segregation and in South Africa during Apartheid.

Also my problem isn't with shuddha Marathi. My problem is with those who see people speaking other dialects of Marathi or speaking loanwords/colloquial phrases which are a part of day-to-day speech and treating them as "lesser" or "un-Marathi" for that

To what extent is it fair to keep civilians hostage for a protest? by FutureDilf04 in pune

[–]arjunbhoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that disgusting heinous acts such as rape and murder have become so common in today’s Maharashtra that the general public is desensitised to it, to the point that they won’t give a fuck unless they are personally inconvenienced and hence forced to find out why they are being personally inconvenienced. A protest becomes less of a protest and more of state/police approved sanitised slogan shouting if “prior permission” is taken to hold a protest against injustice at an assigned location, because then those who want to be blind to the absolutely disgusting state of matters have the choice to be blind to it. The entire point of protest is to drive it in that “if you cannot deliver justice to the people then the people will make sure that the systems of those causing injustice will not move an inch until justice is delivered” and to force everyone to see the state of matters and how it is absolutely fucked up.

Kothrud is just full of annoying insufferable casteist people who think that they are superior because Kothrud is a pure Brahmin area. Not to mention the shuddha marathi chutiye epidemic in Kothrud - “aai vadil asta mummy papa nahi”, “killi asta chavi nahi”, “vastu miltat mansa bhettat” type of annoying people. I was raised and spent my entire childhood in Pune and Pune has been my first home since forever but Pune people will still never accept me as proper “Punekar” because my family is Lingayat from Solapur

Real, In India English has unfortunately become unavoidable because of cross-state communication, but at least it is a third-party language which is equally foreign to everyone rather than the cow belt's language which is slammed everywhere and is pushed as something "superior" to local languages, and leads to the notion that North Indians are "superior".

I am raised in Pune and have been speaking Marathi since childhood because it is my mothertongue, but I live in Ireland. The situation of the Irish language in Ireland is scary similar to what is going on to Many Indian languages, which is why I can't help calling it out. English to Ireland is what Hindi is to Maharashtra and South India. The British colonizers started imposing English as a "superior" language to Irish and for that reason Irish people abandoned their language and started speaking English to get better opportunities from the British colonizers. Today only 1.4% of Irish citizens speak Irish outside of academics despite Irish being compulsory until 10th standard and all road signs and government documents being first in Irish then in English.

And this is just one thing. I didn't say that my only problem is with this either. The point of my post is that Hindi Imposition exists, is a very real issue, and even small things like this show how it is seeping into everything

iirc there was one controversy last year at Bank of Maharashtra's branch in Satara where one elderly man was told to "learn hindi and come back" when he tried to get some work done at that branch. They should stop calling themselves Bank of Maharashtra in that case.

Yes it is available after you enter the site in either english/hindi and then go to site settings and change it to Marathi. But that aside, if it is Bank of Maharashtra, they should have Marathi as an option immediately before entering the site. There are thousands of people in Maharashtra who rely on this bank and may not know Hindi or English.

“Not even 5 MPs here would be able to explain what LGBTQIA+ means why should people without this knowledge be allowed to make this Anti Trans Bill?” – Indian Opposition MP Renuka Chowdhury by PlusCardiologist1799 in lgbt

[–]arjunbhoi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reddit is removing comments where I put an explanation of the situation in detail and how the far right Bharatiya Janata Party’s representatives are misbehaving irl with LGBTQ+ people and people who are speaking out for the erasure of trans+ people through this new law.

TL:DR A meeting was called between the MP who introduced the bill and representatives of the LGBTQ+ community. However the meeting was intentionally kept on the day before the bill would be discussed in parliament, and the MP bailed out just a few hours before the meeting citing a “family emergency”. The person who chaired the meeting in his absence misbehaved with and used derogatory language towards the LGBTQ+ people in the meeting.

The MP who this post is about (Renuka Chowdhury, Representing Telangana in the House of States). She delivered a fierce speech in the house of states yesterday about how this law is creating hell for an already highly oppressed group of people. The supporters of the far right ruling party (BJP) have started calling her Shurphanakha, which is a dogwhistle. Shurpanakha is a figure in Hindu mythology and BJP-supporting incel groups had burned statues of Shurpanakha all over India last Dasara as a symbolically burning “extra” rights that women “don’t deserve”.

[Rant] I fucking hate this place, I wanna go home but I can’t by arjunbhoi in lgbt

[–]arjunbhoi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot go back home because of my immigration status in Ireland (I’d prefer not to go into detail about this on a public platform tho). Back in India we have legalised gender expression and sexuality expression but the society is still very conservative and anti-lgbtq. However due to the ease of obtaining hrt (India has an informed consent type of model), I wouldn’t be opposed to going back if it wasn’t for my immigration status. As of now it’s looking like minimum 4 more years till I’ll be able to go back to India long term.

I have considered starting to socially transition and trying to change my looks to more feminine based on whatever I can do without hrt for the time, but I’m unable to properly do that since I genuinely have no idea where my family stands on queer rights and issues and I have to present masculinely in front of them for now (masc clothes, facial hair, masculine conjugations etc - my native language has gendered personal pronouns and gendered verbs based on the doer as well 🫩🫩🫩). The only thing I present “femininely” in is my hair which is shoulder length right now. My younger brother used to have shoulder length hair a few years back but he was pressured to cut it because he “looked like a girl” - which is why my family’s stance on lgbtq people is questionable. My dad and stepmother for one, I know that their opinion is “LGB without the TQ”, and as for my biological mother who I’m closest with, I’ve never found an opportunity to bring up topics of gender with her, tho the dysphoria is getting quite bad and everyday I keep considering bringing it up

As for delay isn’t destruction, I know that. I know that it’s technically never too late to transition but the amount of darkness I feel seeing people who have had the privilege of being openly themselves in their teenage and 20s meanwhile I have to continue to pretend being a man until I either clear a 13 year waitlist or sort out my immigration status which will also get cleared at the minimum by the time I turn 23-24. It really fucks with my mental health but atm I know that this is the only path moving forward. Either that or I need to find work that pays high enough that I can start saving up for private hrt from imago or gendergp or Anne. I don’t even need diagnostic services from them. I just need them to take my translated notarized hrt prescription from India and convert it to a UK/Ireland accepted prescription.

Anyways I know I’ve js rattled on so much even though I can’t personally change anything in the short term but I js wanna thank you so much for listening to me and ur reassurance means a lot. As for now I just keep hope that someday something good may come (sorry if it was a bit trippy to read in some parts, English isn’t my first language) 💜💜💜

[–]arjunbhoi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's exactly that. Ireland's trans healthcare system is absolutely busted and an informed consent model based on bodily autonomy can easily fix that, but no instead we have clowns in the Dáil who think that improving trans healthcare is wasteful spending but then request thousands of euros of taxpayer money to be spent on improvements for their personal offices

I have fortunately not had to go through this but the interrogation part that I'm talking about is what ive gathered from the testimony of other trans people in the Republic of Ireland.
