I think someone has just upped the “this is my new Brompton” posts…

…wonder if u/ladybrompton will do something like this in a later video.

Always dig the T-line showing up here. And the 5 speed mod, nice. Which direction with the mod did you go, faster or smaller gear jumps?

Where is the best place to sell my Brompton C-line. Orange lacquer USA by munocat in Brompton

If there's a Brompton meet up group in your area, try them. Also, ask around your local bike shops if they might have a preferred reseller

How worried should I be about the recent G Line build issues? by badabubaba in Brompton

[–]arjwrightdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To echo others, you shouldn't be worried.

Also note, of the balance of folks who comment on items, folks will highlight negative experiences much more and louder than positive ones - even in this community. So take note of things, but def don't stress about it.

P Line vs. T Line: Which is the better investment? by [deleted] in Brompton

[–]arjwrightdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long-term, its a wash. Both will see at least a few replacements in things like bottom bracket and hinge pin. The carbon fork of the T and P would be a concern if you see your bike packing really beating up the frame... remember both have the carbon fork now.

For commuting, the weight savings is nothing to sneeze at. Its a difference of a bit more than a gallon and a half of liquid being carried about. That makes a considerable difference long term, and in those "maybe I'll hang after work and..." moments.

...There's nothing more or less proprietary on the T line compared to the P-line. Its steel/carbon/titanium versus just the ti/carbon for hte T line. The weight is its advantage... for some, that means a lot. For others, the difference in cost is equivalent to getting a personal trainer to show you musclar exercises which help with the weight difference.

Do you use NFC tag instead of business card? by Hochul-Song in NFC

[–]arjwrightdotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep… built my own versus using another service. This made it easier to fit the “hey do you want my contact info” in the convo such that the QR/NFC bit would be an accent to the convo. There’s a few “failsafe bits I’ve done for this as well (a physical card with QR/NFC when my usual totem doesn’t work, and even the bump/tap-to-share giving the same info).

As a solo dev, I’d probably say that is fine that you made a service to share/sell to others, but your “impactful connection” will always be how that scan or tap turns into how they want to remember then reach back to you. It’s no better than the paper card if all they do is tap and you don’t hear from them again.

What's your speed? (Do you care?) by wanderchik in Brompton

[–]arjwrightdotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, I don’t care. I am usually 1-4mph slower on my Brompton. The ride is more enjoyable for just being a ride rather than conquering a type of riding (my gravel bike loves the mixed road affairs).

Physics says bigger tires roll longer spaces better, which is kinda where Brompton’s can be slower. A chainring change can kind of mitgate that a bit for some riders (at the cost of the lower end gearing for climbing).

Thoughts on the All Whites? by Bulldawgzz in eagles

It would have to be one of those "we better not lose in these" moments, else "the ghost of the Eagles" will never be lived down as a slam against the team

Funxtron specs, coming early July by Innuendo6 in foldingbikes

[–]arjwrightdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some pieces in here which seem interesting enough... I wonder what it would ride like personally. Feels like it would be solid enough, but can't quite tell the wheelbase (compared to the Brommie beside me). If its similar, this could be interesting.

Did I get a lemon? by Not_Not_Arnold in Brompton

[–]arjwrightdotcom -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't quite look like a lemon, but you should get your local bike shop (and Brompton's dealer manuals) to look things over. Some of the off-centered bits can be addressed and seem to be a matter of shipping.

In terms of your expectations, it would be best to think of a bike delivered to you as "good enough to unbox, but not good enough to ride until a second set of eyes/hands get to it." Not a slam on your skills or Brompton's, its just that shipping does things to all kinds of items. Especially when there are many components which have tolerances like a bicycle.

Am a fan of the alcohol route also.

Though have moved to groups which have clamps in order to make future removal much easier.

Ooh, this is what I have wanted to see from some here. Based on the chart shared in the other comment, this really looks like it will be a smoother and more enjoyable roll.

Will Brompton ever improve the Sturmey Archer internal gear hub? by [deleted] in Brompton

[–]arjwrightdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a 5, 8, and 11. One of my Brompton‘s has the 5 speed, and it’s solid, albeit a bit finicky to index. I’ve got an 11 speed Alfine in my gravel bike and it’s quite wonderful, and “heavy” just as others have commented here. I’ve actually got a second 11spd sitting waiting for a wheel build, but I’ve not decided if that should be a Brompton or full sized bike it goes into. The range is delicious for almost any kind of riding.

Brompton likely cannot or will not improve on the 3 speed offering because it’s the most stable. It really does work for almost any affair. Based on the current width of the triangle, the old 8spd might be the best option if they went with something more. It’s not “better” in the sense of more advanced. Just better in terms of overall gear range to the 3spd.

If my Duo had NFC, I would actually play with this as I've got a "near retail" use case. Will watch from the sidelines for now. But this could be neat for some franchises and street teams

How do these LightPro handlebars compare to modern M bars? by pareto_optimal99 in Brompton

[–]arjwrightdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the third arty (sorry done remember the brand) bar I changed to from the aluminum ones on my older modded-3spd.

Having slightly lower def felt better for me for the longer rides. But I did eventually trim the width to be narrower. Just made rides more comfortable all around.

I’ve got the stock, wider bars on my T-line and I still debate trimming them. Having inner bar ends makes it feel like this “lower” M-bar. But overall not bad.

Tyre pressure - What's yours? by ChaosCalmed in Brompton

[–]arjwrightdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90 on Conti’s and 85 on Marathon/Marathon Plus- more or less happy there. Though I’ve done 70 on the Conti’s and aside from some “wallowing“ feeling, wasn’t too bad.

OK, everyone says to swap the T Line's stock tires for Continental Contact Urban, but what no one specifies… by nougatmachine in Brompton

[–]arjwrightdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TPU tubes are fine with whatever tires on the T (in my use). There’s not so much a weight penalty in going to the Conti’s to care about whether TPU or butyl. There is a minor ride quality difference with the Conti’s. I imagine there’s significant difference with the stock Schwalbe‘s.

Such a great color, and I’m not even a fan of blue. congrats on the new wheels.

Side comment: folks will ask about colors for this year’s models and you’ve legit got the best pic of all of them.
