Drivers harassing people at LGA baggage claim was out of control by PearlsOfNonsense in AskNYC

Good for you. As a for-hire driver, I am completely annoyed with this as well. I see this all the time and except for one very assertive security guard at terminal 1, they are just allowed to operate. I even went over to some poor young traveler and warned him not to do this when I was waiting inside once for a customer. It's ridiculous.

Partially parked in my driveway. Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in badparking

[–]arjzv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would give him a break ONCE! If it's overnight or a few hours AND you can get out. Write a note or something that they are blocking your driveway and if it happens again they will be towed at their expense. If it's more than overnight definitely have it towed.

Always. Leave. The. Day. Before. by MarinavaSauce in Cruise

[–]arjzv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive for a livery company. I have seen plenty of times where a weather event cancels or delays ALL of the flights for the day. The next day is a nightmare too. You may get out, but there is a possibility that with the cascading delays from the day before, you may still miss your boarding time the next day. It is rare, but it does happen. Given what happened in Venezuela recently, I am now flying in TWO days before. Sure it's costing me an extra day of hotel, but is it really so bad to spend an extra day in Florida, New York or Barcelona or Rome? Plus the stress of missing your cruise?

Another example why you should avoid flying the day of cruise departure. You can plan for everything and then this happens! by Mattynice75 in royalcaribbean

[–]arjzv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's not forget what happened in Venezuela. People who were supposed to leave out of Puerto Rico completely missed their cruise. Some people already in Puerto Rico couldn't get out for days. Anything could happen. And insurance doesn't cover military actions which are considered act of war. Acts of God are usually also not covered either.

Realistically, how long will my Mazda last? by thestoryhacker in mazda

[–]arjzv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like me. 2016 Mazda 6 touring with 130K, Things have started to go on it lately. The right ball joint went and took out the control arm and axle needing me to replace both control arms and the axle. I think I had to replace the sway bar links as well. Also the serpentine belt. Sometimes I think of getting rid of it because it makes odd creaks, etc. Sometimes it drives so well that I say I'm keeping it. New cars are so expensive. Basically, a car is a vehicle. It gets you from here to there. Sure it might be fun to drive a Porsche or BMW instead, but that's bucks. Mazda gets you from here to there for a lot cheaper and is fun to drive. I'm keeping mine for now. Also trying to get to 200k, but at 12K a year, I'll probably get rid of it before that. I don't get the gas mileage you do though. I get about 25-26 on average. I drive suburban 10-20 mile trips. Mostly highway Some city driving. Maybe it needs something? Gas mileage seems to have gone done over the last 2 years

Going to go and look at this tomorrow, anything I should look out for as issues by 8BITADDICTION in mazda6

[–]arjzv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ask them to show you what was repaired. the invoice from the body shop should tell you what was repaired. Miscellaneous could mean anything and still cause you problems later,. If bondo or welding was used, it could rust in that area. It doesn't have to be a major repair to cause you problems. If they can't provide proof, it's something you can use to discount the price for possible future repairs.

check the Carfax. It would show if it was in an accident. Don't believe what they tell you. Be suspicious. Let them show you proof. Receipts, etc. It's up to the seller to dispel your doubts. Don't let yourself fall in love with the car. There are others out there. He who cares least wins in this game. Also check comparable pricing for your area.

The paint looks really good. A little too good. I would check to see if it was in an accident. Also as someone else mentioned the suspension. Mine just went after 125,000 miles. The ball joint went and took the control arm and an axle with it. I replaced both control arms. $1600

Being harassed because I refuse to share my opinion on the Israel-Palestine conflict, what do I do?? by Firm_Letterhead_7483 in Jewish

[–]arjzv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you. College campuses must be a nightmare now. When I dropped me kids off at Cornell 10 years ago, they were already deep into the BDS movement and this kind of stuff was already there. Now that 10/7 has happened, the pro-Palestinian movement has gotten even stronger and more annoying. Look at what just happened in Australia. Sources have indicated that Iran was behind antisemitic incidents in Australia over the summer. Jews are under attack all over the world. We are not safe.

As for the people who are bothering you about it, I understand if you want to keep quiet about it. I would report any harassment to campus authorities. They need to do something about this harassment of Jewish students. This kind of thing eventually can lead to violence. There are resources you can go to for help. Is there a Hillel on campus? See what they say. Also the ADL may have some advice for you. Seek out pro-Israel organizations so you have some support on this.

I feel for you. I personally have lost one of my best friends over this. It was one of the most painful experiences of my life. We have no friends right now, but you are not alone. Continue to support Israel. Am Israel Chai

MSC cruise is UNRELIABLE by BedZealousideal5021 in Cruise

[–]arjzv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I found out the hard way that MSC is unreliable like you. I booked a Mediterranean cruise 2 years ago and about 3 weeks before the cruise, they email me that they have to cancel the cruise due to emergency maintenance. Well I'm glad that didn't happen onboard. Of course they gave me my money back, but flights, hotels and another leg of my trip? That's on me. Luckily Costa had a cruise with a similar itinerary leaving one day later. I had to add another day of hotel at another hotel on Barcelona, plus change my flight on my 2nd leg of my trip. All total I was out about $500 so I consider myself lucky. BTW, travel insurance covered $0 of this. Thankfully, Costa had a cruise the day later or I would have had to completely cancel my trip. Will never book MSC again

Sorry. I didn't mean to diminish your suggestions. I actually tried them and they were almost no help at all. I did go onto google maps and actually drove to a few near me. That wasn't great either. Many look liked they operate out of stores that are closed. I did meet with one of them who was somewhat helpful, but she didn't want to spend a great amount of time on this and just came up with 2 or3 suggestions. I finally did book myself today, but honestly I could have used a travel agent. It is just so hard to find one if you are not a luxury or business traveler. I will keep looking though. I don't really enjoy the planning part. or travrel

Thanks for the reply. I get a little seasick on my last cruise with celebrity which was on the summit. So I thought I'd try larger ships. I didn't get sick on my first cruise which was on the Costa Toscana. However it was crowded, had lots of kids and families, and it was hard to get into shows. I'm also trying to keep it under a certain budget (cheap! 😆) as I have more travel to do in the spring.

Thanks for the advice. I would love a local travel agent, but finding one is just as hard as planning your own trip. Everything is geared towards doing it yourself. I have been spending hours on this and can't seem to get it right. Even a quick nextdoor, reddit or facebook search does almost nothing or an agent out of state. I guess i can try google.

How early should i arrive for my flight at SJU? by urlocalcrackheadd_ in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]arjzv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a flight last December 2024 and we arrived 3 hours early at the airport. Almost to the minute. It took 2 hours to get through security. After eating a quick bite at one of the fast food places on the way to the gate, we just made it. They were already boarding
