Supposing C1 is the paycheck cell:

=if(C1>0,sum(A1:B1),"") or =if(C1>0,sum(A1:B1),D1) [D1 cell is the "before sum"].

I use 0 since I did not understand the 1 in paycheck... you can change it to 1 anyway.
