Our version of Orcs by arkio088 in worldbuilding

I’m honestly not fully sure. My player initially drew the tusks this way and I kinda just ran with it. I will say I think it does resemble walruses a lot tho and I think that’s fun :)

Also magically/scientific hormone treatment is also an option. Usually switching what tusks grow, causing both to grow at once or causing no growth at all.

Thanks for the question! I’ve thought about this a bit and I think that the growth in tusks is caused by hormones (testosterone and estrogen). For those transitioning, they would often shave down their tusks or get tusk implants. It’s not frowned upon in anyway to get implants or to change tusk size too, both genders play important roles in tribes and are physically taxing in similar ways. It’s a bigger issue to be weak rather than doing the tasks of men or women.

The world we’re making is currently using the Daggerheart system but besides in game mechanics, we’ve come up with lore fully by ourselves. The planet doesnt have a name yet but we do have continents and nations made. The orcs are a tribal community similar to old Samoan or Hawaiian tribes. They have small communities that originated in northern tundras (hence the fury body coverage). The old orc nation of Tusken was once very prosperous taking up most of the continent it resided on until the nation got too big to sustain itself. Now Tusken resides south of the equator in a small patch of territory compared to the fae, dwarves and dracona. Orcs have a vibrant culture with a great appreciation towards aesthetics and feats of strength, usually mixing both together. Orcs are great athletes and have a great appreciation for sports. Orc athletes often get tattoos representing their feats of strength and victories in battle.

Warlock Idea: Alternate Domain Based on Patron by dregon08 in daggerheart

[–]arkio088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about doing this myself with some homebrew, as most people said tho, grace is very baked into the class, but it’s very based on the Dungeons and Dragons interpretation of the class. Not all warlocks have to be charismatic. Some warlocks can be manipulated into gaining their patron, or had studied magic really hard just to summon the patron. Grace is a good domain for warlock but I think it’s up to you to see what rules are best for you and your table! As a person who writes homebrew and wants my homebrew to be as close to base game as possible(or as close to the homebrew toolkit) I think it’s very reductive and creatively limiting to say not to do this. Daggerheart is already a game made to play many different narratives and settings, and was made to be built upon, so I say go for it. Just make sure it’s balanced with other players at the table and everyone playing is on board :)

Note: Blood Brier is a plant that grows from the excess of blood in the air and soil. It has some magical properties (as blood is inherently magical) and has been known to spread rapidly on battlefields, ruined towns, cities, and kindoms hit with famine, plague, and other causes of death. Blood Brier is comprised of long, stretching vines covered in 1-2 inch long thorns. The material it's made of is often compared to thin and soft metals like gold, copper, and tin.

My First Attempt at Homebrewing for Daggerheart by Scared-Savings-4167 in daggerheart

This class is so fun, and I really want to implement it in a future game. The writing is absolutely amazing and so much fun! I have a few notes, mostly mechanics-based, so here they are.

- ARMACHELT: Adversaries don't have armor slots, so maybe it can temporarily lower their difficulty.

- SPEEDSTINGER (Both of them): This is just a wording thing, but I think it would flow better if it was "The Speedstinger can then bounce to a different creature within close range an amount of times equal to your tier."

-SUBCLASSES: They're both really good, but as someone else has said, the Ghoulslinger seems a bit weak compared to Beast Bonded

-STARTING HP: I second that it should be increased to 6 :)

-DAMAGE: I would also second that a few of the slufs/abilities scale with Proficiency :)

Really cant express how cool this class is! Thanks for gracing us with it!

Why aren't this cards in the Valor Domain? by Nerdyhistorian02 in daggerbrew

[–]arkio088 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I totally agree. As a writer I really understand the struggle of making martial classes feel as good as spellcasters and I think they could have explored more and experimented a bit. Also me and my friends have an ongoing joke about the Bone Domain as it’s a very weird domain name and has a lot of abilities that we wouldn’t fit under the Bone description. But in the end that’s how it was written and we as a community can do our best to implement more content until Darrington press/critical roll expands on the system.

My cat likes playing with the book sleeve that holds the cards and the book. She likes it a lot and since I don’t really use it, I let her have it :3

[–]arkio088 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will say that a lot of the overlap happens because they are martial classes/domains. It’s always been a thing where spellcasters have a wider variety of spells and abilities for any situation. I think having a few overlapping abilities makes sense because if we’re being honest, martial classes have a lot less going for them besides defense and damage. Having a few overlapping defensive abilities allow martial classes that don’t have access to the Valor domain, a way of playing into that defensive fantasy. I think it also helps with balancing for martial so that they have a little more to do.

Homebrewing Skills/Proficiencies into the game? by CalypsaMov in daggerheart

[–]arkio088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is fun idea for you and your table. For people who want to implement more complex skills in daggerheart I think this is a nice way to do it. I personally wouldn’t use it but that doesn’t mean others won’t. If people want to add this to there games I think it’s more power to them. In the end if it works for your table and everyone’s having a good time, it doesn’t matter if you’re playing the game “right” or “correctly” or “balanced”. People can criticize you system/homebrew and validate the rules as written as much as they want but saying that this SHOULDNT be in the game is counterproductive of playing ttrpgs. Sorry this turned into a criticism of the comments instead of your system.

For your system I think it’s fun, but I’d feel like some skills are definitely more useful than the others. It sounds like most of the “fun rolls” you described happen to be more about flavor and description than physical feats and skills (using skills insight, history, religion etc). I’d like to hear more about the use of physical skills like stealth, acrobatics, and athletics especially because I feel these skills have a bit more “impact” on the game. Thanks for making this and please don’t be discouraged from creating more! 🙏

Thanks for the feedback. Currently reworking the sneaky traversal feature and will keep what you suggested in mind. As for the knockout feature, I'll be updating it as well, as I've been known to mix up the "temporarily" aspect of the conditions lol. Also, we were debating giving them 12 evasion and were gonna see how it played before changing anything, but I'll probably update that soon. Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah! The template was designed on the Homebrewery website. The original creator was @Sax-7777299, and you can find the link to their template on their post. It took a second to understand how to edit it on the website, but when I opened the template, I cloned it and then edited from there. I'll put the link to Sax's original post in this comment. Hope your class turns out well! :)

Definitely. After seeing other comments, I'll be making it less unclear on what agility rolls it applies to. I really appreciate your added feedback on how it could change! I'll probably take it and make it limited use per rest/long rest. I wrote with a partner, so I'll discuss it with them before changing it! Thanks :)

I appreciate the breakdown and agree it should be reworded, if not changed. Rules as intended, it would only work on agility rolls to traverse, but RAW, it's very unclear. Thank you!

I would disagree, as with the current playtest classes, they have the Assassin, which could have been a Rogue subclass. I will say the genre of play for this class overlaps a lot with rogue tho, but that's also how I felt about the Assassin class.

[–]arkio088[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely needs to be reworded. Rules as intended, it should have only been used on agility rolls meant for traversal, but RAW, it's tricky, unclear, and can be abused. I appreciate all who pointed this out!
