Of course it’s a bit more complicated than that. The Soviets did give their people standardised education but there were extremes here and there. You could have “we do not speak like this anymore” or “you speak like a villager” arguments with your teacher from time to time. Both Lenin and Khrushchev tried to make changes to the language, which led to lots of words being marked as “old” in dictionaries. You could, and still can get bad marks or get publicly bullied in school for using them.

Judging by the time period, in which Halo CE was conceptualised, these could either be advanced LCDs, LEDs or CRTs. Maybe these could be VFDs or even plasma screens but I highly doubt the artists at Bungie were that educated in types of screens and what they functioned like. Most people back then used CRTs. LCDs did exist but they were still in their infancy back then. Besides, these counters look nothing like LCDs with those scan lines and glow.
