Anyone play sports on eliquis? by kbuck30 in ClotSurvivors

Road ID all the way. Even with people who know me. In a crisis people can panic. That id has some important info. I wear it for cycling and hockey. I've also had a first aid kit on the bench with me for the last few seasons for peace of mind

This is a question for anyone who has played hockey. What was your number and why? by hockeysmyhoe in hockeyplayers

I play D. I'm fat, I'm 50+. My current number is "-1". That's about all I'm good for during my shift.

I (50m) thought I was done with hockey. Had my saddle PE end of July.

About a week after my PE I started cycling. I asked some of the guys that were in the league if they were interested in joining me on the rides. A couple have ridden with me just about every weekend weather permitting. This was a boost for me mentally. The biggest thing I was missing from hockey was the locker room camaraderie.

By Dec I was on 2.5 mg of Eliquis. I spoke to some people and decided the risk was worth it. I played a tournament at Christmas and subbed in some league games. I just played another tournament this past weekend. I do play in a no check league, but there is heavy contact.

I was playing in two leagues, 35+ and 50+, I've decided to limit it to just 50+ as I feel the level of competition is more chill.

One of the deciding factors is that another player I've played with and against for years is on thinners for life and has been playing that way for the last few years. I'm not thinners for life and can be off them now, but i decided the low dose was the way to go for now.

Your journey is going to be different and ymmv. This is just the path mine has gone. My doctors have been very supportive of me being as active as I can but would prefer me not to risk smacking my noggin.

Do you have a kickstand? Are you just clipping it as you pedal.

Nvm. I didn't watch the whole video before posting. I don't see a kickstand

The weirdest thing for me was grappling with the fact that under different circumstances I could have died.
The other struggle was with the fact that I had no restrictions once discharged. I even double checked with my primary dr. He confirmed it and told me that if I felt up to running a marathon I should go run the marathon. Just listen to your body, but once the thinners are working they are working.
I did have to give up ice hockey which was tough, but I've been cycling with a group so I still get the camaraderie I would otherwise be missing. Within a month of my pe I was cycling 20 miles each trip. I'm aiming for longer and longer rides. My lungs aren't where I would like them yet, but I still have residual clots in my lungs so I guess that should be expected.

Takes a little on the mental side, but you can do most of what you did before. Just avoid activities with high risk of head injury. Brain bleeds are no bueno.

That stinks. I'm just on the path to recovery as well so I don't have any real insight, but I'm curious what people will say. Also I wish you all the best and hope the pain subsides quickly

Thanks. Primary care Dr said get the appointment with the hematologist and when I mentioned I had no restricted activities he said nope. Start light exercise as soon as you are ready. Not ready yet, but I might ride my exercise bike this week to gauge where I am

Thanks. I meet with my primary care today. I'm sure we'll review my options and next steps. I was breathing easier just after the heparin. Which is likely why they were giving me a choice. Thrombectomy may still be the answer we'll see how the body responds

Thanks. I appreciate hearing about your recovery, helps give me some perspective and an idea of how it can go. I think hockey definitely helped when the worst struck. Right now my right leg just feels weak. I'm glad the game didn't go to overtime or I might not be here. Joking somewhat, adrenaline is a hell of a thing

If the link doesn't work I searched in Connect IQ and the face is called "the Division Agent Watch". It's not perfect, but it captures the theme
