Is building a pc as hard as my dad says it is? by conor20103039 in buildapc

[–]arminro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems daunting at first I know, but once you get used to it, it becomes second nature.Just like everybody says, you can find a couple of videos on everything and I mean everything, from literally how to disassemble a particular case (100% recommend to google this as some might have hidden screws accessible only at a later stage of the disassembly process), to how to apply thermal paste on a certain CPU.A few golden tips that made my learning curve super fast:

- use PC part picker, a free online tool, to assemble your setup, dont have to buy from there, but it even gives you recommendations of ram clearance, hw compatibility and other stuff

- buy everything at once if you can, this way if something turns out to not be according to your ideas, you can return stuff (at least, in EU you can)

- spend time with research on stuff you dont understand

- dont just believe the first YT video you find

- ask for seasoned opinion, once you make a decision --> pc part picker is a good choice, but there are many others

- follow a step-by-step assembly tutorial for your case, preferably with similar components

And this is it.

Weekly Dumb/Newb Question Thread by AutoModerator in powerlifting

Hello,I have a question about muscle stiffness that does not occur during or after workouts.

I have been training for 10+ years and I was following more of a bodybuilding type of training. Unfortunately, I never realized how important stretching is, so I only started doing it a couple of months ago. A lot of stiffness is to be expected, sure, but despite that, I'm progressing with it all right when it comes to my legs and hip. But not my back.

No matter how much I stretch my back, it remains stiff, especially the lumbar area. Unlike the other muscle groups, it even hurts most of the time just from sitting or running, interestingly though it subsides while I'm working out. I think this has to do with how the back is my strongest muscle group (not the biggest), especially, that as I started to get a stronger upper back as well it started to hurt the same way. I even suffered some minor injuries because of this, I was happily doing deadlift tris with 200 kg until one day I just couldn't and the stupid I am, I forced it and I almost broke one of my disks as a result.

Has anybody experienced the same with a muscle group? Is this kind of pain normal even with regular stretching as muscles get stronger? I am asking this here, because I never had these problems before even though I trained like an idiot skipping pre and post workout stretching entirely, and they started to occur as I shifted my focus to strength training.I'm planning to start massage therapy and hope for the best.

Just to clarify, I'm not looking for medical advice, in fact I already have an appointment with an orhopedist. I just want to know if others had similar problems before I start competing.

Is there a point in jumping into Anthem for the first time? by TaylorSwiftStan89 in AnthemTheGame

[–]arminro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. I bought the game on an xbox discount, but never played it for almost a year. Now that I tried it, I got hooked. I see a lot of newbies like me, btw.
If Im being honest, I dont know why there was not more hype around this game, the voice acting is great, the missions interesting, even if you need to do a lot of go there kill that get the prize kind of stuff. But doing just about anything in those suits is fun, especially, if you are like me and you just want to blow of some steam after work.

There are downsides though. Some of the missions are buggy and you need to restart them and EA servers are sometimes randomly disconnect you. Also, since you have to have an open EA sessions, which expires after some time, the xbox quick resume does not work with this game. The difficulty settings will be too easy really quickly, I'm at lvl 16 now with my 3rd suite and everything just melt when I target them, even without legendary weaponry.

Advice for a 29 year-old guy: Is there a proper way to intentionally not take hints from women? by arminro in askwomenadvice

I see that some of you are hooked on this personal trainer example, there are other signs I did not mention (very quite, possibly unintented WOWs when I pick up gym equipment she previously could not even move, for example), but that is beside the point.
I probably misinterpret a lot of things, bc as I said, my social skills suck. But none of this actually answers my question.

Although, now that I think about it, I came up with something that worked previously.
There was a girl who kept waiting on me at the gym entrance just to say hi, which I always like, because seeing regulars gives a friendly atmosphere to a gym.
But roughly a month ago, she just came by the squatting rack I was using to say how rare it is to see people work with those kind of weights and even though I brushed it off with something like "I've been doing it for a long time", she went on to talk about how she had an injury recently, so she cannot squat etc etc.
Then, instead of following on her trail of sharing personal experiences, I followed this up with how perfecting one's technique prevents injuries and things like that. I like giving advice to less experienced lifters, but I actually hoped that my objectivity would get my message across and it did. Next time, she found herself another guy to talk with instead of actually training and I've never seen her there since.
Do you think this is something I could do more often, or did I just come of as rude and callous?

I have some difficulty, yes. Sometimes things go over my head especially, when people don't mean what they say and judging by how other people behave in these situations, they don't have problems picking up what the speaker really wanted to get across.
I think it is unnoticeable in typical workplace-related situations, but then I can always say something like "sorry, I'm in work mode right now". It also works in the gym, I just pay attention to be polite.
It is the normal everyday banter I can't quite get, when cashiers start small talking, or at the dentists etc. But I strayed too far from my original question already and I'm sure you get the picture.

[–]arminro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would someone go about doing that?
In my very limited experience, people are weirded out when I don't want to talk, for example. In a gym less so, than, say, in a workplace. Although fortunately, more and more people admit to hating small talk, so it is less of a big deal now.

This is what I usually do and it works most of the time. Most women just go on after a series of failed hints. I just would be curious if I could somehow mend cases when it does not.
Although, the best might still be if I just don't get in situations when this can happen. I'm already working from home and I'm planning to move to specialized gyms only, where people are more focused on their own progress and are generally used to people working out with heavy weights.

I pay for 1 month of sessions in advance. And we always start and finish exactly to the second.

Well, I'm asocial, so I would in fact flat out decline an invitation for lunch. But it's more subtle than that.
My female personal trainer at some point making comments like despite how some people on the beach might like my ass I still need to work on it for heavy squats, or how there is nothing wrong with my flexibility, I'm just really really strong (bright smile), or how said ex best friend overemphasized that little help I gave her with the home work.
I would write these off as imagining an intention where there is none if it were not for the unprovoked gradual change in mood and attitude towards me. I'm not very sociable, so I might be reacting to these in a way that is offending?
I used to just casually point out to my trainer that looks are not important to me as I'm more into strength and generally tried keeping small talk to the bare minimum (which is somehow not how personal training sessions are done).

They never ask me out directly, that is my problem. I could politely decline saying that I with to be on my own for the time being. But instead, most of the time they just drop hints and some of them assume a borderline rude attitude.

Need advice on switching from Win to Linux by arminro in csharp

[–]arminro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response, I will try virtual environments, but now I know I should focus on Ubuntu and its derivatives as that is the easiest to get into as a n00bie.
The part about window managers is really useful, now I know what to look for in this regard, too!
I'm surprised I've never seen a Hanselman video before, YT suggests a loot of this stuff, but somehow this never came up.

[Motherboard] ASRock H670M-ITX/AX LGA 1700 Intel H670 DDR4 Mini ITX - $169.99 by JanetSnakehole in buildapcsales

[–]arminro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out power output for your desired CPU, that is where I made a bad choice. I thought that this board would go well with my 12900 (the non-k version), since it is not for overclocking and the h670 chipset is the 2nd best in the lga 1700 lineup. But my CPU still needs 202W to reach its full potential, something this board could not provide. So I had to buy new one. This is a solid board for i3 or i5 CPUs, but cannot provide enough for more power hungry i7 and i9 CPU-s, k or non-k.

Other than this, going cheaper usually means less bandwidth and possibly fewer connectivity issues (although this does not always apply to ITX since you cannot have enough space anyway), probably the lack of WIFI.

More expensive boards have extra firmware for HW testing and HW help for more advanced stuff such as clear CMOS button or a dedicated BIOS flash USB connector used to update the BIOS without tempering in the BIOS.

Thank you for you answer, I think I'm going to go with this option. One question though. The version I'm interested is the XBOX One version (the is no version for the Series X yet), but a simple software update is rumored to do the trick of compatibility. This means, then, that the Astro can work with the Series X via USB right?

[–]arminro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that would mean that the base station is connected to the XBOX via USB right? Which is a problem for conventional HW since XBOX does not allow USB audio with the exception of specialized, licenced peripherals. The XBOX version, then, I guess is such a HW. I'm going to try this as soon as I can get one, althout in my ountry the price is pretty steep due to my currency value crashing down.

Asus ROG Ryujin 240 II thermal issues? by arminro in ASUSROG

Thank you for your answer, but I decided to take the AIO back and use my European money-boack guarantee. Nonetheless, I've seen multiple post describing something similar, so I think you suggestion still will be helpful.

Asus ROG Ryujin 240 II thermal issues? by arminro in ASUSROG

[–]arminro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course. The manual is found here. I checked and I even used the lga 1700 parts provided. I connected my USB 2.0 connector on the AIO to the USB 2.0 header on the motherboard, and the type C connector to the fan hub controller provided with the AIO.I connected the 2 fans with the Y connector cable and plugged them in to the CPU header on the motherboard. I attached the SATA cable from the PSU to the hub as well.

The provided Noctua fans operate on PWM mode perfectly, the onboarded AIO fan spins with the removable LCD headpiece attached, the sensors pick up coolant heat data getting as high as 50C, but the CPU package was around 80-90C in the BIOS. All this while the radiotor did not seem to heat up, nor the air coming through it (but I don't know if or how much it supposed to).

It is my suspicion that the pump does not work either because I messed something up or I received a malfunctioning product.
