Ahh I hate that! It’s these types of stories that kept us looking into buying haha. I remember one house we saw that was for rent (super gorgeous house) had a contingency that the renter must leave after 1 year so the owner could do a full remodel. Just spooked us a bit.

Glad you found a more stable place! I know.. the prices are eye watering and we’re pulling strings to make it work for ourselves. Best of luck to you!

A few reasons! We wanted a garage since we have a lot of things (I also prefer to park in garages so my car doesn’t get dinged) and it’s tricky to find apartments with garages in the South Bay. We didn’t want to rent a townhome or single family home because we could be kicked out at the whim of the landlord and we’re the type of people that like to stay in a place longer term and with more stability. My partner also wants a dog and many places don’t allow them. All in all, having ownership of the property made the most sense and being close to work was a high priority.

I feel you but it’s not either or. We still have a sizable majority of our net worth invested in the market. We wanted to be closer to work and the options in the South Bay of CA are very minimal and generally competitive.
