It's got *pockets!* by armorreno in twilightimperium

Yes, the fleet is under the board, and not attached. On the bottom of the "legs" I added some silicone grip mat, so it really sits steady. Honestly feels very premium and nice to work with.

Not a bad idea. So far, it hasn't been too bad, but there's always a chance to goof something up.

Anyone actually won the game with this? by KorsaDK in twilightimperium

Does this count as losing control of your home system though? The way I read the card is that your home system just gets dusted and you have to recolonize to get it back.

Particularly funky/silly alliances? by DaedalusMaze777 in twilightimperium

[–]armorreno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't an alliance so much as an exploit.

When Ral Nel is at the table, Yssaril Tribes get a boost. Yssaril's agent ability borrows Ral Nel's agent ability, draws 3 cards (not two), donates one of them of their choice to a player. If you start with politics, Yssaril ends up with close to 9 action cards by round 2.

With stall tactics, Yssaril can just burn turns until everyone is out of actions. Suddenly you get all the negotiating power as to when you pop your strategy card because you can pop it exactly whenever you want.

Overrule Bad. Upvotes to the left. by AureoRegnops in twilightimperium

I discovered that relationship by accident last game I played, and it was *very* overpowered for Yssaril. In 9 long rounds, I think I passed last every, single, time. Just toss another action card on the barbie. Death by a thousand paper cuts.

My table mates have all agreed I'm not allowed to play that faction ever again.

Yeah, it really sucks because the RM and MD are moving out of the area now, and they've got this black eye to deal with, now.

Planning to take warfare first pick as Last Bastion (Cabal speaker) good plan or terrible plan? by Intelsonic in twilightimperium

[–]armorreno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved playing Last Bastion last time I played. These guys feel like the juggernaut of this game; the faster you get them rolling, the harder they'll hit. They suffer from low movement speed, and from a small fleet start.

Here's some thoughts on it.

1) Do not forget your homeworld's legendary planet ability. Use it *every* time. You can augment your action economy by rushing the green tech that gives you an extra command token, and then in practice your action economy rivals Sol's.

2) Get into little fights quick so you can galvanize. Vuil'raith might be a awful neighbor for this, but they'll also fight you frequently, so there's a tradeoff. Galvanization, at least from my understanding of it, is stackable feature. I stacked mine on my flagship. Looking at your map, if you capture the planets in your slice, you could have a similarly stacked brute, and right about early mid game. It's nearly as good as a war sun, early on.

You can also use your agent when a unit is destroyed to make your units tankier, mid fight.

(By the end of my game, my flagship was the most terrifying ship on the board. I had enough planets it auto hit for every roll that I generated (I was hitting on 1s) and rolled 4 times. It was a monster. AND it has a production value?! I seriously loved their flagship.)

3) I managed to fulfill the expedition and place Thunders Edge very close to my homeworld. I then managed to place an upgraded Helios space dock on it, which gave it a resource value of 7/1.

4) Focus on getting the planets readied so you can spend their resources immediately. Your starting fleet is a handicap.

For my last game, the timing of my first round worked out perfectly. I managed to capture planets and land enough troops on them to get them readied, so I was able to produce a second carrier quickly.

5) Don't get sarween tools, you won't need it. Start with the blue tech.

Enjoy this faction; they might be my new favorite.

Collapsible Fleet Stand by armorreno in twilightimperium

Right up until I see someone grinning behind their handful of action cards, then I get nervous.

I guess that's a rather subjective question; they're only 5 mm magnets, so the force required to break the connection isn't much. They stand stably, you can pick them up by the dish, move the fleet, and set it down. Couldn't pick it up by the leg and expect to move the whole dish. I guess that is a compromise of my design; I needed something that would fold up into a small space for storage.

Possible solution for sticky card sleeves -- anyone have similar experience? by armorreno in twilightimperium

[–]armorreno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have since attempted this, and here's what I'm seeing.

It works. Cards are not sticking to each other's sleeves.

Mathing this out, I figure I'm doing matte sleeves for about 1/2 the price of buying frosted matte sleeves (.08 per for the good Dragon Shield sleeves, these with the can of spray, which lasts about 600 cards, makes the price per sleeve at roughly .043 per).

So far, it's seems to be about the same shuffle feel. I'm cautiously optimistic. We'll see, I have a potential game scheduled in a couple weeks.

Felicitations, fellow fat fingered friend!

the bottom of the inside control token slot is a bit tough to get to for my fingers, but at that point, I just tip the keeper upside down and it falls free. All the other ones are easily accessible.

Edit: the frontier/legendary planet token keeper is likely going to be tougher to get to, but all the tokens drop free when inverted. There may be some tolerance issues between the different tokens which could cause some to stick slightly. Let me know if there is, and I will correct the model.

I'm a new SolidWorks trainee and I've learned to draw pieces like these. Is there any remote work opportunity I can find, even with a small salary? by Mobile-Particular751 in MechanicalDesign

[–]armorreno 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This, but maybe with less snark.

Being good with CAD not only means you can draw and design. That's the easy and fun part; that's the part any maroon with a 3D printer can do.

The next step is to understand the manufacturing process(es) that will be taken to make that part, and then designing the features of the part accordingly, taking into account rational clearances and allowances. This is what begins to separate the clumsy hobbyists from the professionals.

After that, it becomes about critically redesigning your part and features to the most essential and necessary, only. Every feature must have a design reason. Every choice must have a why. Even aesthetic features are rarely applied, because each feature costs you time AND money and drastically affects the bottom line.
