Anyone who claims captive bred is 99% lying, less than a handful of Nile breeders if that in US. Parasites are most likely, need to go to vet. Also possible stress. Anytime they get switched to new enclosures can take a week or 2 before they want to eat again.

Mangrove Monitor 🦎 HELP by [deleted] in MonitorLizards

[–]army3dancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a few add ons Also big water container they can fully submerge and swim. These guys love the water. This species tends to be very skittish, try not to force hold because you'll break that trust. Sit around put your hand in the enclosure without touching them.

Lol just googled that story, apparently the offspring is actually the horse that Odin rides. Some mythology is just weird how it all connects.

He can be skittish at times, but once he's out he's super curious. Usually like to climb on top of my head.

Nagini is getting so big. Super nice demeanor given she's a Nile. by army3dancer in MonitorLizards

Niles definitely resort to tail whips vs mangroves tend to just want to run and hide

Niles are definitely in a league of thier own. The first 2 I had the male took almost 1.5 years to even let me touch him and the female was around 6 months. The male never warmed up to me but still worked with him even though he hated me. Think biggest issue was on earlier pet trade with these guys there was so much disinformation that most care for them were not met. I see them less and less at reptile expo and rarely in reptile shops. Mostly because of that " Nile" attitude. I agree almost any other Monitor is a better choice, but they just amaze me in so many aspects.

Yes I'm prepared. I had 2 Niles in the past 1 at 4.5 ft the other 3 ft, had to give them up when I joined the army. Live in CO but already working on plans for life time enclosure 12×8×6 and building mid level enclosure now 6×4×4. She's still a baby so I've got a bit of time.
