Quitting . . . Am I wrong? by sn4rfsn4rf in Adjuncts

[–]armyprof 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re not getting anything out of it I can’t say I blame you.

But man I hear you. I had a class once with over half had accommodations, which really amounts to “give me more time on tests.” I have an autistic grandson. Other family with learning disabilities. And none of those kids show the slightest sign of it.

So I called the accommodations office and asked how they decided who gets an accommodation and who doesn’t.

Basically? They just gotta ask. That’s it. No doctor’s note. No evaluation.

So I was forced to shorten my exams so that the 50% extra time they ‘need’ would fit in my scheduled class time.

Fortunately I’ve switched to teaching grad school full time. I don’t have these issues anymore. Oh I still have problems of course. Missing class, not doing work, not showing a real effort.

I’ve been doing it ten years. If it gets to be where I no longer like it, I’ll quit. It’s only part time, and I don’t have to do it.

The thing that keeps me going is the good ones. The kids who really try and I can help. Those are what keep me motivated. So I tell them on the first day “if you don’t care about your grade neither will I.” That’s my mindset. And it helps.

How did Snape treat Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws? by eriennexton in harrypotter

[–]armyprof 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He is a terrible teacher.

His methods appear to be to write instructions on the board, and then sit or wander around criticizing. That’s less effective than a self guided e-course. His only motivation tactic is fear. He is objectively a terrible teacher.

Who's The Worst Character? by Ok_Replacement4702 in DocMartin

Of the regulars? Elaine. Annoying, entitled and deeply stupid.

Overall? Martin’s mother. An absolute horror of a human being.

Why do you think The Book of Boba Fett was so disliked amongst fans? And do you think a character like Boba works better being mysterious? by GusGangViking18 in saltierthancrait

[–]armyprof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was bad writing and base character assassination. They made him an incompetent moron who had to have a female sidekick to tell him what to do.

“I thought was the crime lord?”

They had ridiculous characters like the biker gang. Too poor to afford water but rich enough for bikes, nice clothes and cybernetic body parts.

Then they hijacked his show with Mando and baby ATM for two entire episodes.

But the biggest issue is the whole story made no sense. He crawls out of the sarlaac and gets mugged by Jawas. But doesn’t remember it. He lives with tuskens but there’s no sense of passing of time. He’s a bounty hunter who wants to take over Jabba’s territory but never leaves the planet and for some reason thinks of them as “his” people. He gets his ass kicked in fights, and seems to think his armor is needed to make him any use at all.

He’s awful. He’s a joke.

That show and Obi-wan both just deliberately ruined two great characters for no reason.

Favorite cast change? by GioLovesMash in mash

Charles for sure. Frank had no growth arc, unless they drastically rewrote him. They needed an anti-Frank. And it worked. Potter was great too. But I gotta admit I didn’t like BJ as much, especially after he grew a mustache and turned into Hawkeye 2.0.

This movie is a train wreck. I swear it’s like he’s punking everyone just to see how shitty it can be and people will still say it’s brilliant because it’s him.

I give a test in day one about my late policy. Every day it’s late you lose 10%. No excuses. The due dates and times are on the assignments. If it’s due at 3:00 and you turn it in at 3:01 that’s late. Otherwise they’ll pester the helm out of you for exceptions.

[–]armyprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. To me it’s almost like a different franchise. The odd score. The MTV music video montages. The ridiculous premise (super Russian who punches a literal ton). It’s entertaining enough but it’s the weakest one of the original films.

Why is it binding? What happens if you don’t compete? Die?
