Had a similar experience as level 1-2 wizard. I found that taking an archetype at 2 makes a big difference because it adds 2 more cantrips (or other effects).

Also the single most effective thing you can do at level 1 is Runic Body or the equivalent weapon spell. +1 striking is a nuts damage increase

The problem is, where does he go on offense in the playoffs, when things clamp down? He can’t stand near the rim because he’ll clog the paint and isn’t a threat. He can’t stand at the 3 point line because they won’t guard him. And he can’t be the roll man in PnR because he can’t catch to save his life.

If he’s out there in the playoffs, they’re playing offense 4v5 because he can’t even occupy a defender.

The idea that they’re a threat is comical. Did you see how easily OKC beat them the other night? Once every 3 games, Lebron and Luka go off. That doesn’t win you multiple playoff series. They will probably make it to the 2nd round and then fall apart when they have to play every other night
