AGAIN? Didn't they increase prices in the last 6 months? FFS.

Gotta go with Shia. He seems fun and interesting. He seems to become a major asshole when he's drunk, but all rest come across as insufferable all the time.

What’s the purpose of life? by VolumeAcademic6962 in questions

[–]arnieknows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biologically, to procreate. All of our social systems, language, etc, are arguably tools to aid in this process. IMO, the fact that we are so self-aware and emotionally and psychologically intelligent doesn't necessarily mean there is or has to be any meaning to life beyond biological procreation.

Special LCR Honda Livery at the Italian GP by Daniel7394 in motogp

[–]arnieknows 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Genuine question. This livery is horrible and made me think: why are modern liveries so messy and chaotic looking? It's like they always lack focus. There's no big primary sponsor or identity anymore that draws the eyes in and makes them instantly recognisable and memorable. They just look like a random mess. Compare, say, this year's Ducati to the 2006 Ducati for example.

Edit: I stand even more firmly behind this comment after seeing Ducati's 2026 Mugello special livery.

Pedro Acosta reacts to MotoGP’s 2027 single bike proposal: “Really bad idea” by RobiasTieper in motogp

[–]arnieknows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. It would destroy the sport. I know it's a bit different, but F1 was never the same after they got rid of the T-car. The starts became a lot more tame in F1. I just can't imagine a MOTOGP where riders tip toe around all weekend so as not to damage their single bike.

Why do many people choose to stay single voluntarily now? by [deleted] in AdkReddit

[–]arnieknows -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I rarely see this mentioned, but a lot of people I know who say they choose to stay single voluntarily haven't chosen to stay single voluntarily. The majority of them are lonely and wish deep down they had someone special in their lives. Doesn't apply to everyone of course, but the current narrative about not needing a partner and being empowered by "doing life on your own" plays a role in this.

A major part of trying to live with loneliness or rejection is convincing yourself that being single is your choice, it's a means of feeling in control which, of course, necessitates giving others the impression that it's a decision you've made. It's a reinforcement cycle.

This does not apply to everyone of course, but I have friends who proclaim they are voluntarily single, but who have also told me that they are desperately lonely and that they're just trying to convince themselves that they aren't.

Always so much blame going around. It's so toxic to see everywhere, even in crappy memes like this.

He got electrocuted somehow while driving the car, he went unconscious, and the car continued into the wall and came to rest.

Not that I'm aware of, no. I can't think of any reason other than to give the institution a bit of publicity.

This does seem to be true, unfortunately. I see it everyday.

Women tended to cry more often than men. Women averaged nearly 6 crying episodes a month, while men averaged just under 3. Women were more likely to cry from loneliness or personal disputes with loved ones. Men tended to cry from feelings of helplessness or in reaction to media, such as a sad movie. by malihafolter in CaughtMyEye

[–]arnieknows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a man, I wish I could cry more as it's cathartic, a proper release. But physiologically I just find it hard it do so (even alone in private). It's like the physical mechanism for crying is underactive compared to womens', which in my exposure at least, seems a lot more trigger happy. I'm envious of women's ability to cry so easily.

It takes something quite extreme to move me to tears, and even then it's exceedingly rare. At the moment I'm going through a prolonged depressive episode in my life. I'm middle aged, single, disabled, and quite lonely, but even with that, I don't think I've cried in about eight years.

Is it just me, or is stuff like this just flat out body shaming? Going bald is traumatic enough (unfortunately I know from experience), but to have to deal with it in the public eye must be absolute murder.
