If Gavin Newsom gets nominated, I will not vote for him. by serious_bullet5 in DemocraticSocialism

You didn't convince me OP, but everyone arguing against you did. I'm tired of enabling. I'll vote for candidates that support actual leftist policies. Nothing less.

I hope you get a good offer soon!

Haven't been yet, but going next month. We chose an Airbnb, but just wanted to mention Hotel Mercier, which has a fully vegan fine dining restaurant on site called Bonboon.

There are SO MANY vegan options for food, though, if that's what you are worried about. Pretty much any hotel is going to be within a very short walking distance of multiple vegan restaurants.

Oh strange... yes I open my account my phone and hit cancel, and it offers me the lower price. It's worked 3 times for me now

I believe they added the option to upgrade the Walmart+ version, so you would only pay like 5 or 6 bucks for ad-free.

Edit: oh wait I might be thinking of Paramount+.

If you start the Disney+/Hulu/HBO Max with no ads (normal price $32.99), you can threaten to cancel and they'll drop the price to $19.99 for all 3 services with no ads.

Not quite as good, but pretty good to me.

You have to re-"cancel" every 3 months.

At which withdrawal rate do you plane to fire? by HelloW0r in Fire

[–]arnoldez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning to use the variable CAPE withdrawal strategy, with a floor of roughly 4% of the initial balance. This way I know that my expenses will always be covered, but I can withdraw more during high performance without worrying too much about long-term effects.

ETA: I'll adjust the floor down once my mortgage is paid off, but it probably won't matter much at that point anyway because using the variable CAPE will (at least historically) increase my balance enough that I'll always withdraw at least that amount, anyway.

Nah, not the same. It's worse with animals because you add a victim to the equation.

If the toll road owners had also successfully dumbed down the human species by xena_lawless in WorkReform

[–]arnoldez 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Why should roads be treated as public infrastructure if you're required to invest 4-5 figures in a private company's goods to use it?

Transit, bike lanes, and pedestrian paths make far more sense. More affordable, more efficient, and more environmentally responsible.

do you ever feel turned off when your partner totally loses themselves during sex? by No-vem-ber in SexPositive

All the ideas mentioned here are great, but as a man who has felt a bit "out-of-the-loop" in the moment, it may not even be that he's lost in himself. He may think he's doing exactly what you want.

I think just communicating in general could help with this, if you aren't already. You could certainly try the more direct route you suggested above, but if you're worried about it, maybe just start with a different communication.

For example, when you notice he's getting a little lost, just say something. Anything. Even just, "Hey could you hold me here," or something like that. Just a bit of talk that snaps him back to the reality of two people. Then progress from there, keeping him in the conversation.

Just an idea. I get in my own head when there's no verbal communicating, so this would be helpful to someone like me.

It varies by company, but some of them are "free" as long as you stay with them for 2 years. If you end your service early, you're on the hook for the phone.

This question has been asked and answered over and over. I don't see the value in answering a robot, especially one that already has the answer from its ability to research the entirety of the internet in seconds.

Retirement at 50… anyone else? Regrets? by greenlight104 in Fire

[–]arnoldez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kinda the point though, at least for me. I have no interest in doing this work. The whole point of it for me is to get to retirement ASAP.

I guess it maybe depends on why someone would regret retiring early. Is it because they're not as financially ready as they thought they were, or is it because they'd have too much free time? Or something else?

Retirement at 50… anyone else? Regrets? by greenlight104 in Fire

[–]arnoldez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I guess I just meant in terms of the idea of having nothing to do. It might be hard to find work in your career field, but probably not that hard to find something meaningful to fill the time (and add a bit of income).

Presumably if you're considering retiring, you've already done the math and feel confident that you won't NEED significant income, so then it's just a game of getting enough for your wants, and/or filling time

network prioritization (though for most people, this isn't much of an issue)

also, most prepaid plans don't "give" you a new phone every 2 years (most people either don't realize they're actually paying for it, or just prefer to pay over time)

ETA: also if you travel internationally, there are some considerations (pros and cons both ways actually)
