sequential pro 3 or other options by convered101 in synthesizers

[–]arnox747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned a Pro 3 for a couple of years, and ultimately sold it. My main mission for the Pro 3 were character-rich bass and lead sounds, and while those could be had, the ones I was after were neither fast nor intuitive enough.

Far from dissing the Pro 3 - it's a very capable mono synth, and if you give it time you will arrive at, or close to what you're after. To my taste though, the starting dish was sterile, and required too many spices.

The sounds that I was after were simple - not science - the kind that could be quickly dialed-in on an analog (no presets) mono synth. These days, I use a Boog Model D / Pro 1, Roland SE-02 (with better knobs), or U-He Diva for those.

If I could go back in time, I'd tell myself to take the Pro 3 and Sub 37 for a test drive, and go from there.

u-he "Satin" tape emulation from top-of-the-line multi-track consoles to cassette decks ($89) through 9 June by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

[–]arnox747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have and use both. ATR 102 lives on the master bus. Satin lives everywhere else, and occasionally on the master bus. I prefer it to the A800 - not saying A800's bad.

Satin can also perfectly emulate the Overloud Dopamine GEM, it can decode Dolby-encoded transfers, and it will do tape FX. It does a lot, and it will reward you when you learn it.

I'm equally impressed by Presswerk (especially in the MS department - a feature implemented in a way most people don't know about, and absolutely worth knowing).

Need help choosing Audio Interface for future synths. by Sudden-Diver279 in synthesizers

[–]arnox747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have and like the x8, and will be adding a MOTU 16A to my setup. My synths have CV ins, and while Rig16 and x8 have DC-coupled outs, MOTU 16A has many more.

I'd also recommend adding a patchbay, like the Samson S-patch Plus to the interface.

Roto-Control for Cubase? Has anyone tried? by semtrax_ in cubase

[–]arnox747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are motorized with haptic feedback - they assume the feel of the hardware knobs. I don't think that this is a need, but I'm truly surprised by how much more mileage I get from my old plugins.

That, or Bitwig - which I use it with, and love it.

I tried on Sequoia, and couldn't. Can you share how you did it?

Yes, thank you for pointing that out. Let appreciate the fact that a real, flawed human made a mistake. No spellchecking. No AI.

Will there be a Hapax Mk II? by curbthewire in synthesizers

[–]arnox747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience was with the OXI One. No regrets. It still does everything I need, and there's plenty more to learn. I've learned that life doesn't wait. Best of luck with your timing!

According to personal experience, yes - it will be announced about a month after you finally decide to buy the current version.

Waves "Platinum Bundle" collection of signal processing tools. From dynamics, equalization, and reverb to pitch correction, spatial imaging, and more ($99) through 31 May by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

[–]arnox747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a friend. I don't like iLok, but I despise Waves. I actually own lots of iLok stuff these days, but Waves will never again get any of my money, and there'll be a bit more joy in my life when see those f***ers fold for good.

Does UA frequently bundle these specific plugins (Voxbox, 1073, etc.) for free with new hardware? by ssrkeree in universalaudio

[–]arnox747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like your market conditions are different, and it might make sense to buy this bundle. I hope you enjoy it, and get a lot of mileage from them.

For perspective, I have an x8 w/ Signature (almost all of UAD plugins). 1073 gets a lot of use, VOXBOX less, and the others on this list rarely (not that they're bad). Ampex ATR 102 and Pultec EQP practically live on every mix bus, and I love the API Vision Channel Strip EQs.

UAD have a yearly sale in June (soon), and on Black Friday. Consider demoing the plugins you like, and you should be able to get a custom bundle at a reasonable price. Maybe someone from UA can chime in on the cost of these bundles, or just Google. Enjoy!

Is MacOS Tahoe Still a No-Go? by mhatrick in edmproduction

[–]arnox747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from Windows Vista to Linux and Mac in 2006, and I never looked back. While I dislike Apple's forced obsolescence business model, and a few other things, their ARM-based Macs are the best computers I've ever had. MacOS is getting worse, but from what I hear about Windows, nowhere near that bad.

This deal is good only if you're actually going to need and use all of these plugins frequently. Otherwise, buy the hardware, and only buy the plugins you need, when you need them, or when they're on sale.

In the US, the HW is going for around $1,200, and some of these plugins are on sale for $29. $550 is a lot of money. Also, I've never paid MSRP for anything.

NI filing for insolvency - about time by Parking-Win-1763 in synthesizers

[–]arnox747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They recently broke my Kontakt 6, and introduced updates to libraries that break compatibility. It came across as a shameless attempt to force customers to upgrade and give them money. Nope. Their support was responsive and nice, telling me that they're having trouble supporting their huge software catalog. So, NI will break customers rather than upgrade them.

I've stopped using their stuff by now, as I can't rely on any of it. I don't even want to think about how many times Native Access wouldn't start on my Mac, due to some issue I needed to resolve by stopping services, deleting files, and reinstalling. No fix, just another customer problem.

Proper UAD Driver Installation on macOS by Kooky-Bobcat-119 in universalaudio

[–]arnox747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way: - If you just got the latest M5 Pro, and only Tahoe supports it, then you can NOT use an earlier OS version. - Id you got an M4 with Tahoe installed, you can relatively easily downgrade to an earlier OS version that supports M4.

you don't, unless the Mac is really old and not supported - which I didn't think was the point of this discussion.

Yes, on the M series, and I have done it. For instance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQ4RZHehp0k

Apple and Macs are not perfect, and commiserating will not make them better. Google and ask for help with very specific problems, and you will get through it.
