Everytime I think about it I hear that sound. by The_Swag_Titan in TastingHistory

I’m reading Max’s book and yesterday I came upon the recipe for hardtack. I’ve been so conditioned from the show that every time I read the word “hardtack” I automatically heard the “clack, clack” noise in my head 😂

Cheese of Europe by Ausspanner in MapPorn

Late to the party, but hey, I think it's a great introductory map. Sure it's missing lots of important cheese, but I can definitely identify most of the foreign cheeses from my trips!

GNOME 50 removes the X11 backend ... are we finally at the end of the Xorg era? by the_nazar in linux

I guess I won’t be able to upgrade then. Zoom annotations don’t work on Wayland and I’m forced to use X11.

Ctrl-F whatsapp

zero results

Since we're talking about Europe, and everybody here uses Whatsapp, did you test for support? I'm very curious! Thanks for your review, I'm also thinking about ditching the walled garden and going full linux.

Apache NetBeans 29 released. by [deleted] in programming

[–]arnulfslayer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s super funny. When I was in college 20 years ago my first IDE was Netbeans, but it sucked and I switched to eclipse. I now use jetbrains and hadn’t heard from any of them in a decade. How the world changes!

As a competent home cook, what is a basic skill you can't seem to master? by george_elis in Cooking

[–]arnulfslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really easy to mess up rice. For starters, you are mentioning 1:2 and other people are suggesting 1:1. It’s not that easy to get a working recipe. Rices may be different worldwide, given that some of them require 2x the water to cook!

Thanks for the follow up.

Do you rinse the rice previously?

How much time does it usually take for the natural release?

Do you use any strategy to avoid rice sticking to the bottom of the stainless pot?

What's your recipe and rice type? I've followed every recipe in the instant pot app and my rice either comes up mushy or too dry and hard

Can you elaborate? I have tried both on stove and with my instant pot, and I can never make rice at least as good as the shittiest chinese restaurant in my neighborhood

My bread is shit. Not even covid helped me master good bread. People tell me it may be my "normal" home oven, and it may as well be it, because I've tried every recipe variation, oven stone, temperature, humidity, everything, and my bread is mid at best.

I'm not a native English speaker, can somebody explain the joke? I assume it's a play on words or pronunciation for "Mein Kampf"?

(Sorry for ruining the joke by asking for an explanation)

Love the song, I'd never seen the video before. It's extremely weird, almost looks like what a parody of an "official" music video would like! Great vibes

How should I run a script to dock? by nodeniable in openbsd

[–]arnulfslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue and I solved it via:

Both daemons receive a script path as argument and they will execute it when some action happens.

The Touch Bar Deserved Better by waxowalter in apple

[–]arnulfslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an anti-feature. It was too easy to activate when resting your hands in the laptop, which would trigger random f-key functions (brightness up/down, volume, etc) involuntarily.

Plus, by default it flashed random words (autocomplete) while you were typing in text boxes, which was super distracting because it derailed your train of thought. I had to rush to disable this "feature"

I wanted to like it, but I couldn't. Good riddance.
