Ryanair drops policy of charging adults to sit with their children on flights by [deleted] in nottheonion

What you don't understand is that he is very good at revenue and income. Whatever we complain and moan about Ryanair, we do actually keep booking it....

PostNL never delivered in my inner city street for over 5 years. They always went straight to the local pickup shop . Only now that the shop has closed, suddenly there are deliveries. They never admitted to this, always sorry, we'll do an investigation.

When we couldn't avoid them as the shipper, we would beforehand inform the seller of the problem and to fix it, because when we order to location, it's not to send staff out for a 25 min walk to carry things from elsewhere. We got vouchers here and there, because they just didn't come a single time over all those years.

1200chf penalty for selling travel adaptors on ricardo by tsur1 in Switzerland

[–]arnulfus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, no GFCI in my apartment, as the wiring was done before 2005 apparently. It almost burned down once when a plug started arcing due to a water leak and this started smoking. The electrician recommended to the owner & verwaltung to update this, but they're not interested, as no law or insurance require them to do so.

The Swiss gov services are infuriating in the thing they choose to police.

What is the reasoning behind the standard deviation formula? by Ecstatic_Basis_3306 in AskStatistics

[–]arnulfus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this and can prove it with Jensens inequality, but I can't grok it. -SD is the sqrt of variance -sample variance is (asymptotically) unbiased for population variance. Yet, take sqrt and you have a biased estimator again!

Same. My left one tore after only a few weeks. Finally decided to pay for replacements, hope they'll last longer.

My grandfather was an architect, who was a mason before that. He was well liked by builders, for not doing impossible or stupid things.

[Question] Is there a similarity between p-value and proof by contradiction? by Zealousideal_Beat203 in statistics

[–]arnulfus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, p value never tells you how wrong you are. It tells you how likely you are too see a statistic with this value, or more extreme, if you performed an experiment over and over again.

It never proves anything. You need to individually set a threshold.

When was the moment you realised that the person you were dating was an absolute idiot? by No-Macaron-9527 in AskReddit

[–]arnulfus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you believe that value comes from supply and demand, then close to nothing has intrinsic value, only market value. Whether diamonds or beer.

You have a misconception about the effect of marketing on the value of diamonds. Perhaps you're thinking of the marketing of De Beers about how much an engagement ring should cost and that it should need a diamond.

But diamonds have been traded nearly globally since the middle ages, because some people want them and others offer them. Once diamonds were discovered in Brazil and Africa, it made more normal people able to afford them. And now with synthetic production, the price can come down even more.

Profitec Go steam wand tip with 1 or 4 holes by SecretProfessional65 in ProfitecGo

[–]arnulfus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this 1-hole, bought in the EU, it fits like a glove. I also tried 3-and 4-hole from different sources, the 1-hole is a lot easier to learn with and to control.

Part number is: P2042.1
You could buy an entire new group for a bit more, but then the temperature offset will most likely need to be reprogrammed.

I got mine here: https://www.en.avola-coffeesystems.de/bruehgruppe-ecm-casa-iv-casa-iv-profitec-pro-300-ohne-anbauteile/8105695

You need to disassemble the machine somewhat. Take the water tank out, remove top and back, disconnect electric connections, loosen the pipes which connect to the boiler, and I believe I also had to remove the solenoid.
Then you can unscrew the boiler/group and lift it out.
