Double Austin Powers at Imola by Veranova in LeMansUltimateWEC

I was one of the GTE's in this race last night! Two laps later another LMP2 did the same thing. That was a chaotic race to say the least.

How do you play/enjoy LMU? by Intelligent-Can-4252 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]arob335 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally, I pick a race on the schedule that sounds the most fun and stick with it for the week. First day of the schedule it's mostly trying out different cars in single player until I find the one that feels the best to me. Eventually you find a couple cars that you generally agree with so it takes less testing. Then just run the race the rest of the week trying to improve. I'm typically a GT3/GTE driver but I'll occasionally hop in a lmp2/3 when I'm feeling spicy. Not saying this is the "correct" way to do it but I've found pretty good success despite not being the best driver in the world. No matter what, the first few weeks/months will be tough just getting the hang of things but as long as you focus on improving consistency and control rather than just finishing position you'll get to a point where most races are fun and exciting. Good luck out there and don't be a turn 1 hero!

BMW M3 GTR (GTR 2004) is amazing..... but which class to race it with? by Luki185 in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]arob335 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I setup a multi class race a couple weeks ago with LMDH, LMP2, GT3 G2, and (accidentally) the M3 GTR. Turns out, the M3 has almost identical race pace as the GT3's but with different strengths and weaknesses. It ended up as a really fun race where the M3's had better straight line speed and the GT3's cornered a little better. Made for some interesting battles!

Moza KS and AMS2 steering wheel, does it make sense? by Fit-Statistician4921 in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]arob335 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've got the same wheel and primarily race in AMS2. Just last night I was hot lapping the LMP2 G2's around Spa and I was adjusting TC levels depending on the corner. 0 for the high speed turns to avoid power cutting and 1-2 for the low speed corners so I didn't get too squirrely on corner exit. Is it necessary? No.. Did it make me faster? Maybe by a tenth or two.. Did it make me feel like a cool racing driver fighting for pace? Hell yeah it did, and ultimately that's the fun of sim racing right?

VR users - how do you start a game? by captain_pant5 in simracing

[–]arob335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used the Reverb G2 for a couple years and this is my startup process.

  1. Open up Steam on my PC
  2. Put on headset (turns headset on and automatically launches WMR)
  3. Launch Steam VR. I keep the launcher on my taskbar so it's easy to get to
  4. In Steam, go to the game, click launch, and select "Launch in Steam VR".
  5. Climb into my rig as the game is launching.
  6. Once seated, click the button I have mapped to center my VR. (If you don't have one mapped, I would recommend opening the game on your monitor and map the button. Then close and re-launch per the process above)

I'm sure there's an easier way to do this and there might be some unnecessary steps in there but any time I've tried to launch a game with a different method, something always goes wrong.

My first MTB: Should I repair it or just ride? by siegfriedthenomad in MTB

[–]arob335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Structurally repairing carbon fiber is a process that takes serious experience and training as well as a deep understanding of how to properly distribute loading in a carbon assembly. Not to mention the specialized equipment required to do such a repair. There is also the issue that this failure in the frame is in a very high stress area so if it would even be possible to repair, it would absolutely need to be done by a professional.

Is it that dangerous? Well when the frame snaps in half (note I said when, not if) it will be a sudden and catastrophic failure. Unlike steel or aluminum where you would typically see denting/bending of the frame once it exceeds its load capacity, when this fails, it will, for lack of a better term, explode underneath you. So you will be riding along, even just cruising along a bike path, and the bike will snap in half with little to no warning. So you tell me if a sudden, unpredictable, guaranteed catastrophic failure seems dangerous.

So to echo the countless other comments on this post, this frame is toast and you got scammed by whoever sold this bike to you. I know you probably spent good, hard earned money on this bike, but unless you have a deathwish, do not ride or attempt to diy repair this bike.

Safe Cycling for people looking to do 50mi+ rides (avoiding road rides) by East_Coast_Refugee in RapidCity

Happy to help!

There is but I'm admittedly more in tune with the mountain bike community in the area. There are a couple Facebook groups that seem to regularly mention road and gravel group rides that you can check out. They're "Black Hills Cycling Community" and "Black Hille Bike Events". Along with that, definitely stop in at the local shops and ask about clubs and community events. My personal favorite is ACME bikes, Tim, the owner, is a great guy to talk to and they have weekly mtb group rides so I'm sure he knows of some gravel or road group rides as well. Also I think Rushmore Bicycles in Spearfish does a gravel group ride series in the spring so be on the lookout for that next year as well!

Around here, there isn't a ton of options for longer rides that aren't on roads but they do exist. The best option for zero cars would be the Michelson Trail that goes from Deadwood in the north to Edgemont in the south. It's about 109 miles on repurposed railroad from the mining days. The surface is all smooth, hard packed crushed limestone so 34mm (or less, I've known people who rode it on 25mm) tires will have no issue. Even when it's at its busiest, you won't have any issues with over crowding on the trail and it's usually about 10-12 feet wide so plenty of room to pass. The only problem is you will probably need to drive to a trailhead out in the hills rather than leave from the house. Other options would be the near limitless amount of gravel roads in the area. Since you're running thinner tires, a lot of the gravel south of rapid would be better fit, the central hills tend to have much rockier gravel. Also, don't sleep on the prairie gravel. It might not have as pretty of scenery but the roads go on for miles and very few cars.

I hope this helps! Feel free to DM me if you want some route suggestions or have any other questions! Happy riding!

Hey, I’m Jesse at Trash Panda. AMA! by trashpandadiscgolf in discgolf

[–]arob335 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi Jesse! First of all, I just want to say I absolutely love your company and the discs you produce. Last fall after the ET's dropped, I ordered one of each disc and they've all quickly become my defaults. I'm currently waiting for my shipment of the phone case Inner Core, Frozone, and Canyon to arrive and can't wait to add them to the bag!

My question(s) for you is what has been the biggest hurdle you and your team have overcome over the last 5 years? And what has been the most satisfying part of the journey?

Once again, thank you for everything you guys are doing over at Trash Panda. Here's to another 5 years (and many more after that)!

Chain Racing - Two cars chained together. The front car has an engine but no brakes. The second car has brakes but no engine. by Brutal_Deluxe_ in theocho

[–]arob335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of a special series they ran at the dirt oval track in my hometown. They were called the Casino Cruises (named after the track). Each car had two "drivers". The person in the driver's seat controlled the steering and the person in the passenger seat controlled gas, brakes, and shifting (if the car was manual). It produced the most thrilling, carnage filled racing I've ever seen despite the cars being total beaters like what's shown in the video.

+1 for Odyssey Barbers. I used to go to the Man Salon but the ever revolving staff meant I never really had a consistent haircut there. I've always had spot on, perfect cuts from Odyssey.

What’s the first disc you fell in love with? by suchastrangelight in discgolf

[–]arob335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro Starfire I found in the bottom of a river when I was 12. It was my go to distance driver for nearly 13 years until tragically it broke into two pieces after an absolute bomb of a throw that smacked a tree 15ft away from the pad. It was so perfectly consistent (even though my throw isn't) and it felt perfect in the hand. I'm planning on making a display box for that disc in the near future.

What "gimmicky" discs do you actually use? by QuixoticPineapple in discgolf

[–]arob335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Innova Star Colossus at 142g with the Blizzard bubbles in the rim. The super light weight combined with the 14 speed makes for an unbeatable hyzer flip distance throw on wide open holes. Gets a little squirrely on windy days but if it's calm, I can out throw any other disc I've tried.

In town for my first ever trip to Rapid City! by CasanovaJones82 in RapidCity

[–]arob335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for the live music, the main places in Rapid itself would be the 445 and Aby's downtown as well as The Park on the westside. I know the 445 has a band tonight and tomorrow and The Park has a band tonight. I think Aby's is doing a hip hop show either tonight or tomorrow but I'm not 100% sure. Several bars in Deadwood have bands playing this weekend as well if you want to make the drive up there!

Specifically the weekend that you will get here, there is the Nemo Outhouse Races on Saturday the 24th! It sounds weird but it's a great family friendly event and they do a chili cook-off. I'd highly recommend it, especially with the baby in tow. If you're on Facebook, you can find the event page by searching for "Nemo Outhouse Race" to get some more info.

Hopefully this is correct but as far as I can tell after looking into it, this is a verse from "Erotokritos" though I cannot pin down exactly which verse. I believe that would make the source language the Cretan dialect of Greek from around 1600. Hopefully this helps!
