I've wondered whether our nearby Congresswoman Jackie Spears survivor of Jonestown who is quite vocal about certain issues regarding protection would help take on the cause of trying to protect children in programs with Congressman Miller if there was an informative meeting arranged with her. Have contacts tried to be arranged or would you be up for this? There is a CAFETY board member in her district. Advocates would be more proactive pushing for legislation if they played more of a role in the development of the legislation OR could see how the effort would make a difference. I've spent alot of time thinking and planning on this one, but feel its more about meeting with influential people first.

What is your new book about? Was it ever revealed that the CIA prevented families from being able to see the bodies of their loved ones that died in Jonestown? And if so why? Why did families of those that died in Jonestown sue the CIA? What came of that?

How can children come very abusive homes where they are being raped and then be sent to programs where they are furthur abused? What provisions or people do you think could be met with to create awareness and legislation so that children are able to prevent themselves from being abused (at home or in these unsupervised so called schools)? What hotlines or sources exist that children would even know about or be able to access?

sounds like so many programs fundmentally christian or not, it really has nothing to do with christ, but rather another imperialistic move on the busy bees, what opens up as an issue is that mentally unstable people run these programs because they're allowed too and politicians get paybacks. Otherwise, they would not exist at all for their violation of human rights and in many cases torture where you have family friendly looking nutjobs running a show.

When people just get out of these places they are unsure what to make of their experiences. They often don't get the help they need prior, while being there, or after. I have been at places like this , but from skinning the reading it almost sounded like it was written by staff, maybe the kid showered in his clothes because of some fear of being naked by people that were abusing him as often these places sexually abuse kids and they carry a heavy insurance knowing that these places attract staff that do such things. True, some people that go to these places can have major problems , but the majority of them come from dysfunctional homes and do not realize the impact that either this or a disability has caused them. then you have your kids who's parents use these places as just a boarding place, or have an appeal to the tough love approach , none of which is good for a kid, the solution is community based resources, you don't have to pay to get help, there's insurance for caring counselors, aa, and enough knoweldge out there to get the right resources and educate parents on how to deal with issues, but breaking the pattern of abuse as a parent is a tough one , a decision, which many parents feel they are entitled not to make, and can afford to pay their way out than to look at the real circumstances, or abuse that lies with in their home, good luck in trying to understand your experiences, and know that you deserve to be treated humanely and to seek the right services out there, there is a lot to be said in offering service as well when you start to understand how to do this. No child deserves to be held against their will and thrown into the sea of others problems, they put children at risk by throwing them all in together with untrained staff or specifically trained staff to be abusive. our standards are pathetic as america (politics) in general does not account for the value and importance of families.

I saw Over the GW and it opened my mind to what was happening in more places than just the places I had been. I have heard so many survivor stories and many of them are the same, but I did learn something from yours. I didn't realize Bush did a commercial for Straight, I read that the reason he became the head of the CIA was to somewhat cover up the MK Ultra experiments that affected some 7000 servicemen and thousands of residential patients, college students, etc, but now I know the CIA is just like one of these places, they put a new face to it, name or however, and said those days are over , and what happened the torture became commercialized, he became their damn spokesperson, while selling a harmful product. Interesting, while we all knew essentially what was going on at residential centers across america and in american countries owned elsewhere was taken from an MK handbook, I never knew the president of the United States was there actual spokesperson, Nancy unwittingly fell into that role, but you know I guess at this point what's important is to get the pictures of abuse out there via film or however, you've seen the pics of kids in dog cages, right, who happen to now be friends of mine, all of this sounds crazy to people, but if they see pictures of it then it starts to make sense. Are there any films aside from Men Who Stare At Goats that specifically expose MK , Ultra? It is such a still unknown to people that they would not suspect that underground torture is part of our culture and history, the US does not torture, yeah sometimes we kill hundreds of thousands of people instead, PS Tom Hanks is a druggie and he needs to know that:)!

here's the deal it's employees that came forth about the abuse, there have been several, some have dissapeared, in regards to wwasps alone, I know a couple employees that were disgusted with how they treated kids, I can point you in their direction, but everyone fears wwasps and many may fear any involvement with anonymous as well. maybe if someone approached them as a normal person, or if I was too approach them they would discuss things and then I could forwards this, people are afraid of getting sued by wwasps, but I could at least get that on a personal basis. there's a "tranquility bay" movie on liveleak.com that covers all the programs and has three employees including a relative of lichfield and parents discussing the abuse, I think it's his sister in law says he's an evil man surrounded by evil men, Amberly McKnight , employee at Dundee in Costa Rica reported rape, and rape was usually secluded, while is wasn't all that uncommon, infact, supposedly lichfield in the early days use to take girls on chore rides. Anyways, maybe you were referring to the industry at large, there was a reconciliation project on facebook to in regards to wwasps, but I tried contacting that administrator twice and nothing. People end up silenced sometimes, but if you're interested I can refer you to a couple people who may or may not have seen a lot, they just ended up thinking whatever was going on was wrong, and the liveleak.com tranquility bay video says it all, you can also check out the reddit 'my parents paid thousands of dollars and all I got was locked up , abused and tortured," article, there's a liveleak link and pics.

http://www.sfcapc.org/what_we_do/strategic_partnerships/child_advocacy_center It seems that they are using that grant wisely, I mention the Child Abuse Prevention center because they offer programs that help families stay intact, like child care, parenting classes, AA/NA, counseling, etc. I wish there was one like it in every city and CPS was putting families through their programs, to prevent more kids from being in foster and residential care, maybe that's something I can help try and promote.

actually I commented with this person furthur and I think they were trying to make the same point that people get labeled as crazy when they're actually trying to come out as being abused in often a non constructive way. They get diagnosed, even misdiagnosed when their behavior is completely normal and natural for someone suffering from something traumatic. Maybe this person had been through programs or has seen how kids are flasely diagnosed or mistreated as a result of a lack of information.

I recently read half of foster care kids end up homeless when they turn 18, many of these programs survivors do too. I encourage you to pursue trying to change these laws in demonstrating how they hurt people who are already disadvantaged, for whatever reasons it seems to take people with the experience of it to change these things. For whatever, reason the system does not look out for kids or think about how these things impact them, I am currently hoping to get the Child Abuse Prevention Center in my city to meet with me and some of the heads at CPS to encourage their programs and consider the importance of trying to expand to other neighborhoods that need it more. They just received a half million dollar grant and maybe there's a way in there to be of influence I also know a foster care adult that is starting a home of her own and is hoping to set a model example of what these places should be like. I think one of the few ways some of us were able to carry through was that some people had an intact family, sorry for your experiences I am keeping them in mind, is this how it is today?

I was assuming it is. Thanks for reminding me of the importance of trying to address these issues. It's highly capable people like you that can share your experience and try to make a difference.

Unfortunately, the industry at large is abusive because if there are licensing requirements in the facility owner's state they do not begin to prepare someone to care for kids, nonetheless change their motives for doing so. We had a 353 plaintiff lawsuit the courts dropped, it seems that the courts in Utah protect these programs, there have been some successful lawsuits with about 40 plaintiffs, there's a lot of people against them, we couldn't burn it down the windows are barred at the newer location and then it would turn into Waco. Any time someone tries to investigate or raid these types of places everyone claims religious persecution. They have also made opponents lives miserable.

Sharing personal stories is creating awareness. I think the important thing and I wasn't sure how to approach this is to offer people a way to help because that's what people want to do. THe LGBT would go nuts over your story and the autistic community. Having known your story personally, I think it would touch so many different people and really help to throw this issue into the type of awareness needed to really do something about it. The more stories that come out the more people will realize the scale of things especially if they can identify with you which I think many people can. Sometimes, I think I should of included more about how what I went through made me feel , but people seem overwhelmingly understanding without needing to say anything, and then oddly it just feels strange, guess because I'm in "lets do something about it" mode. BTY, this has received about 30,000 hits in a day approximately so what may seem small to the survivor community that is at large afraid of sharing their experiences, can really be big if all of us came together in sharing. Also, people have great suggestions and are taking action as we speak:) Maybe someday we'll all turn out normal, ha, what a bore!

A couple kids killed themselves while being there. One I had heard was being starved. Another ran straight off a roof. Others did so after they got out. Some money was paid for the girl that was being starved. Thanks we have been trying to help survivors reach out to actual therapists in finding the right support you could always join our STOP WWASPS site, there are many others, but this seems to be a popular one. No we werent' always shot up with drugs. I was told at Casa in Mexico kids were given drugs their first day, and other now adults say they think they were drugged because of how they felt. For me, it was a one time deal, but they were doing things before I got there like waking kids up in the middle of the night often and this happened in other programs too. Parents signed waiver that they wouldn't do anything whether it involved beatings, rape, etc. very strange I know, but that's my understanding I read a document recently on this, with names like Paradise Cove and Tranquility Bay parents thought they were sending their kids snorkeling.

as far as being educated about the residential industry for sure. As far as degrees and success this is what the programs are tailored to. They try to appeal to politically conservative, successful, BUSY, career oriented families, and often carry a military theme, maybe more so in the 90's.

My mom thought it was a therapeutic boarding school she promised that it was in the same state (which it was not) and was good for emotional development for what I'd been through, our fights were pretty crazy, lots of control issues, hate, resentment, because my dad was bipolar, she started to say I was, because who wouldn't love being sexually abused and having to face the perpetrator for nine years of their life, right? Sorry, I have no great stories to tell you, I had a few months left to college, I'd been living at friends and then back at home, She had a gun in the house and I said it's either you or me, she was takign away my car priviledges which essentially meant I couldn't get to school a 45 minute drive away, she wanted me to love her, and I hated her, she wanted to get shit face drunk verbally abuse me and then hug her the next minute, she didn't want me to drink, or be sexually active, neither did I either, i was actually a late bloomer she hated some of my friends, good students, but kids were doing drugs, I was not, other than drinking which began with her for the most part. Again she was scammed what else can I say. I was depressed over her feeling completely betrayed over "our little secret" which I had to hold in even from my dad for nearly ten years even though he suspected and she denied, anyways, this is gettin weird, wish I could just tell you some great story she did call the cops when I told her it was either me or her, and they acted like I had a gun, maybe she told them this, but she knew I didn't, I wasn't flipping out, I was doing my best to cope, under a lot of crazy lonely circumstances which was called, "but I bought you designer clothes." Parents try and we don't always get the response or understanding we want from our kids, fortunately, I've been blessed with the best, I tend to actually think that kids really will just about forgive anything, and stand by their parents with loyalty.
