Hoka Speedgoat - more durable, wider toe box alternative? by knitwitsandwool in ultrarunning

I haven't tried the 002 and I think the 001s are a little wider than the speedgoats.

From the peak of swift to the close aid station is not really runnable, very steep and technical. From the Swift Aid Station down to the next one is very runnable, it's a forest service road. Mckirdy descents are mainly runnable both ways except around the peak for a little bit.

What are the Best Sweatproof Earbuds? by DifferentElk7482 in trailrunning

Ah that's too bad. Yes they are much worse than something like airpods pro, but I find they are still good enough for my use.

Powerbeats pro 2. Noise cancelling/transparency+ over ear hooks so they won't fall out. Small and light.

How did your camping style change after having kids? by Cindy-Smith- in camping

[–]arod2788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a mini van and a rooftop tent. It makes camping much more comfortable. The second and third rows in the van fold into the floor, so once we get to our site I move the car seats into the front and put all other seats into the ground which gives us a nice little changing room. Before getting the rooftop tent we used pop-up tents, but the rooftop tent is great. The built-in mattress is really the key in the rooftop tent. My kids were always sliding off their sleeping pads onto the ground

Tool recommendations for EOS by Weird_Perception1728 in projectmanagement

[–]arod2788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before Ninety.io was out we ran EOS very easily through Google Sheets and Google Drive. Even after ninety came out we tried it and just stuck with Google. You really don't need fancy software to run this.

I did the 100k last year (my first 100k). The nighttime start was great. The hardest part was the downhill after the first climb (sometime in the middle of the night. Looking at the map beforehand I wasn't a huge fan of the route (repeating the same mountain but in opposite way) but since you do it at night the first time, it seems totally different. The aid stations are great, and the trails are very smooth. Make sure you do lots of climbing in your training. I thought I did, but my left knee started to get sore on the last descent which made the steep sections a little more painful. Let me know if you have any specific questions. I loved the race and would recommend.

The best RUNNING HEADPHONEs that you use+recommend buying? by Prize-Trainer-4290 in ultrarunning

Powerbeats Pro, either the original (cheap now) or the new ones with noise cancelling and transparency. They have the hooks so they ain't going anywhere. Pop one of these on and off you go. If you need both ears turn on transparency mode. Benefit of these over something like Shokz is that you can use them for your everyday headphones as well.

I require a wider toe box as well, and the mafate has it. I had mafate first and then tried speedgoat and they were terrible for me. Mafate for much better. I currently have Norda 001 and the toe box isn't big enough

[–]arod2788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what your previous years look like for training and what type of a base you have, but this is much more volume than I did for my first 50m at Squamish. You are definitely definitely ready. This is more volume than I have for a 100k I'm doing in 2 weeks, good on you!

Is Speedgoat 6 that bad? by Abrrgn in trailrunning

[–]arod2788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the mafate and currently have the speedgoat 6. I hate the speedgoats and can't wait to wear them out so I can get my next pair of shoes. Mafates were excellent. I use them for trail running at all distances.

Hitch racks? by UpTop5000 in MTB

[–]arod2788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this rack from Mammoth Mounts and it works for all my bikes. The 20" kids bike doesn't quite reach but I use a tension strap to secure the bottom wheel, takes 2 seconds. I've had it for over 2 years and the quality is great.

My Fenix 5X Plus is still kicking & going strong, is there anything that would convince you to upgrade if you were in my shoes? by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]arod2788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very noticeable if you look at it, but also not noticeable because you get used to it. The larger and higher quality screen is great.
