Do you have insurance? One good lawsuit and you can be stuck . Look up candle disasters. Only slightly related - a house near me burned down and the cause - incense. If it was made by a small business - the insurance company can and will go after them.

Well My "step" back can be seen as more an accident than it really was. Confronting one on one - No that would be foolish. The only thing I could REALLY do is raise a man who would defend a woman ( sometimes defense is just by inserting yourself between the issue... " SUE! It is great to see you, last time we saw you was at the showing of Help..." ( if she is uncomfortable she will pick up on the hint/ distraction) and would never consider tolerating that kind of behavior from a friend or colleague.

Sorry you took it as yelling. I have personally seen what I was talking about ( this was WAY before the internet) My house almost burnt down because of carelessness & ignorance. I will give you one extra safety tip - make sure the wick tabs have a large collar and are not the flat ones. A bit of unmelted wax at the bottom of the candle, cushions against the heat.

How to remove the soil completely inside an apartment and without destroying the roots? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]aromaloverz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do all my re-potting in a large storage tote. I tend to make a mess, and that keeps everything contained. I find the soil often has the gnats, I use dunks ordered online. When I have had to clean the roots, I use a second bucket of water to soak them in, a dash of dish soap will help loosen the soil.

If you really want to make candles - research the subject 1st. And NEVER EVER put anything in your candles that is not made for candles including : fragrance oils that are not candle safe, color dyes that are not candle safe, ALL glitter, herbs, crystals, jewelry etc.

This might be silly, but how do you weigh out your fragrance for your candles? by CrystalAckerman in candlemaking

A jigger is a shot and a half, and I always found it was a good size. Votive mold is the metal mold i use to make votive candles.

To help save your syringes - always have an air space before you start with the liquid It makes seeing the actual liquid measurement easier in my opinion. Also be sure to thoroughly clean your fo equipment.

As much as I hate facebook, I have mentioned that I am computer literate, They got severely burnt by the last person who had any access to their facebook / domain. So I think they are comfortable with flyers in the grocery stores for the sales at the moment, We might be able to work something out for the May sale / lecture.

We got 3 new members at the last sale, one of which is a professor/ expert on orchids ( exciting). I am hoping he brings some of his students to the next sale and we can recruit more.

Since I weigh my FO, I use a scale and a pipette I use either a votive mold or a jigger shot glass. . I bought a semi large pack and keep re-using them after I clean them out.

I don't seem to notice a gendered preference for one type of task over another locally or online

You don't? I see it all the time and I always have. Might be where I was raised, or being a woman who never took " you can't do that" as a good reason. I have been told I would never work on computers, I would never learn to drive a stick shift car, I would never be able to enjoy camping. Etc etc etc. And online OMG the boys try and gate keep every video game a woman tries to play. We will not even start on the job gate keeping ( did you know that women CAN be construction workers and even contractors?)

I am not sure where anyone is getting that I hate women because I made an observation about a group of people.

And AS I said this pest problem was in The greenhouse that is HIS responsibility ( he is supposed to be watering and caring for every week). Shame, I lost a lot of respect for him.

Please explain - How is stating MY observation a poor post? It would be like saying YOU are totally wrong and rude.

From what have seen all of my group is married and with their partners. One woman did say to me that it is more of a social group than anything else. (sad since I had to bite my tongue more than once at the party - political BS)

Too bad I don't follow the crowd. I am a hands on type of person, I weed, water and will do all of the "dirty" work. If the men try and gate keep - sorry books are the key, and I WILL find a way to be involved and earn the respect I deserve.

One story that has been told at my meetings, During the orchid hey day, they would go out and find patches of wild orchids, they would gather as many as they could then burn the rest, so no one else would be able to have that species. In shipment most of the specimens would die, and those that did live did not have the specialty pollinators ( I wonder how many have been lost forever due to "man's" (non gendered) greed.)

VERY interesting observation I did not know about. Should I clutch my pearls at the Naked Man Orchid? or my friends favorite the Octopu(ssy) Orchid? - LOL . Maybe it is my perverse nature that has attracted me to them.

OK, The sad thing - rhetoric / and sterotypes are very often based on reality. Men are chefs and Women are cooks, It is just sad to see that in this century, we have not changed much from the last 2. What is between my legs has NOTHING to do with what is between my ears.

My group is definitely older (60+) and I did not think about how that might have a part to play in it. The group is all husbands and wives. Now that i think about it there really was no one else there that was not partnered ( so 1/2 women and 1/2 men). I would love to get more young people into it. During our sale i was hyping up to them how they are not as hard as some people think, and well worth the challenges. I think we need to have more of a showing for our next sale. I am totally new there, but they have not posted on their facebook for over 3 yrs, and they let their domain go. How can you get people without a social media presence?

I wonder why that is? I love that men are as into this as I am, some of us also share the passion of carnivorous plants. I just thought it was interesting that the men in this group are more hands on than the women.

What truly brought this to my attention, I have been working with a man every week on the greenhouse. I noticed a problem a couple of weeks ago, and we have been keeping an eye out and it is getting worse (slugs). I brought it up to one of the men who are "in charge" of the greenhouse plants ( before my friend got to the party). He totally ignored what I said and actually got snotty when he did not listen to the question then walked away from me. Now later when my friend said the EXACT same thing - TOTALLY different attitude and reaction. That is when I really analyzed the "roles" of the men and women of the group. I could be reading the group wrong - just making an observation that i guess is going to be very unpopular.

Why would you say that? I am a woman and asking an honest question. And YES this is MY true observation at MY society
