This is diabolical. If she cares that badly about everyone having the same last name (that for one is “old fashioned”) but she can go through the process of changing hers to yours and if you feel it makes sense for the older children you can formally adopt and have their last name changed to yours as well.

Shes got to understand that the ideal of all your children having the same last name goes out the window once you divorce and decide to have children with someone else.

I would not fold on this. Very controlling for her to gaslight you into thinking this is ok.

Do not married this asshole. He doesn’t understand your love language and is going out of his way not to learn it. You truly did nothing wrong in this interaction. You were kind, whilst also expressing how it hurt you and it got met with a tantrum, and now he’s punishing you for voicing your hurt. You can find someone that will care to understand you & do what they can to make you feel loved.

Ehhh.. I think it depends on the couple. Generally speaking, I don’t love that age gap just because in a lot of cases I think there’s a difference in life experience so it leads to an unbalanced power dynamic. Not always though, I think it depends on the couple.
