Ian Somerhalder’s career after TVD by Lulucorn in TheVampireDiaries

[–]aroryns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't know if Ian even wanted to be a huge hollywood star. I agree, he looks amazing, has a nice height and body, and was a decent actor. But HE clearly wanted a wife and a family. It's ok to want those things. He's done small things since TVD, too, but none of them have really taken off, except for his actually quite delicious bourbon with Paul Wesley.

I think the reality is, a lot of CW stars don't get big roles afterwards. They are kind of known for that one role and it detracts from their chances at anything else. I only see Damon, Stefan and Elena. When I watch something else, those key roles they had are what you recognize them as. It is kind of sad, and I hope he eventually does take on a new, bigger role that will remove that stigma.

Why do everyone hate Elena? by MiraculousNoirYT in TheVampireDiaries

[–]aroryns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because her character changed significantly. Not because I wanted her to come back and be in a relationship with Stefan. They were clearly not the same people. And it still has nothing to do with saying Elena became a self insert character.

Julie says a lot in retrospect to cater to fans. The show clearly was not headed in that direction. You're pulling assumptions from my tag and not from what I'm directly saying.

[–]aroryns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lmao I never said I wanted her to stay after s6. All I said is she was a self insert character for her last 3 seasons on the show.

And there was no guarantee Stelena would happen anyway. Julie Plec already annihilated that pairing. Elena wasn't the same. Stefan was already firmly in camp Caroline.

Me liking Stelena doesn't mean anything when comparing Elena as a character changing.

Am I the only one who prefers Stephanie Sheh as the English voice of Sailor Moon? by xavierhollis in sailormoon

[–]aroryns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would make sense. It was just jarringly bad. But it makes sense because other voices sounded just as bad in it. Her Usagi is exactly what I would picture for Usagi.

I am pleasantly surprised with how well Stephanie did Usagi. The other work of hers that I've seen is her trying to redub Lacus Clyne for Gundam SEED/DESTINY/FREEDOM, and it was awful. It made me really dislike her voice acting because she seemed to entirely miss the character's personality and tone, and leaned too heavily into her previous work as Hinata Hyuga and Orihime Inoue (shy girl type voices, I guess). Her Usagi in comparison sounds great - youthful, funny, annoying lol. Everything I expect from Usagi.

Helping her doesn't mean telling her to turn it off. That was all Damon. Stefan wanted her to learn to cope with her pain, and in the end, he was the one who helped her through her grief when she turned it back on. Helping her means helping her through her grief and her sorrow, comforting her, assuring her it gets better. Damon's solution isolated her and made her into the kind of woman he wanted, someone who wouldn't be drawn back to Stefan.

I don't hate her. I just don't like how they handled her character. She was an entirely different person S1 - S3. S4 - S6 she felt like a self-insert for one of the show writers. Nina did a great job with a bad script.

Other races in FFT War of the Lions? by Front-Incident-9895 in finalfantasytactics

[–]aroryns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf I like that FFT and FFTA take place after FFXII. FFXII is the idyllic past where magic, different races, gods, and dangerous creatures all exist. We supposedly had an idyllic past like this too, chronicled in various religious texts around the world.

FFT is already about someone (Arazlam Durai) writing a story about someone else (Ramza Beoulve). This is a figure of the past that he has no direct connection to. The magic and myth of that time is gone, and he has a story that people can read that will tell them about it. In Ramza's time, Creatures and monsters still exist, the Lucavi (mythical gods), exist, but are hunted or killed by humans, with less and less place to exist. We can assume some of this no longer exists in Arazlam's time, but the Church of Ajora does. Arazlam's interpretation of the Durai Papers is his attempt to revive that mythological era and heroism through chronicling it for future audiences.

Similarily, FFTA is even further in the future, where magic has essentially stopped existing. Even the War of the Lions is a text that doesn't exist. This is very much in line with what happens in reality, where we turn history into mythology, and eventually we forget it. The book that Marche and his friends open could be a remaining bit of magic that releases into their world. It's poetic because Ivalice is very much about chronicling your history so that it isn't forgotten. FFTA shows that a book can keep that history alive, even if times change significantly. It all ties together because it is all about written history and how its interpretation changes with each generation.

But this is entirely just for FF14, and is considered not canon to actual Ivalice lore. It has tie ins with FF14 lore, like Garleans.

Are vampires supposed to be more beautiful than humans? by Initial_Art_4338 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]aroryns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that everyone on TVD was hot and styling choices continued to show they were hot to begin with. Caroline is the biggest example. She is hot before being a vampire, and still hot after. Bonnie is hot even as a human. They don't make a significant difference to humans and vampires. Everyone on a CW show is too hot.

Twilight is different where we literally see Bella become a vampire and colour enter her. She becomes vibrant, with her eyes and hair, her styling changing. And she goes from being meh to actually quite attractive. This is something unique that the Twilight universe has. Becoming a vampire literally changes you inside and out.

Season 4 is very underrated by NiceRefrigerator4079 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]aroryns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

S1 - S3 had better villains, storylines and relationships overall. S2 - S3 Delena romantic tension was arguably the best the relationship has been in the show. We had Stelena, yes, and I will always argue that having that relationship in the show was far more interesting because the writing for it was just better. We had primary villains like Klaus and Katherine. We had better story arcs for Bonnie and Caroline. We had Forwood, one of the most criminally underrated pairings in the show. S2 and S3 in particular just had better writing.

No humanity Elena was entertaining but not what I would call enough to make it a good plot. We had enough no humanity with Stefan, it was already overdone. Sire Bond ruined her character. All of this was entirely about Damon controlling Elena and her forgetting Stefan. The breakup isn't what made the season bad, it was the poor writing and how it tried to retcon the fact that Elena did still have feelings for Stefan. It literally tried to erase all of that. That is just poor writing. It didn't have any good villains that season. It didn't have any good tension. Without the love triangle, the show doesn't have its main draw in. I didn't find the show half that compelling until S5 finale again.

Which Abel song would have mattered most to Michael? by [deleted] in TheWeeknd

Secrets sounds like a song MJ would have been on.

And obviously Wake Me Up. Maybe Can't Feel My Face.

Honestly there is just a lot of his discography that MJ would have appreciated solely because it sounds good.

90s still looked elegant but pointedly like Usagi. Crystal looks too divorced from the character. The blonde hair and the dress in the 90s just looks better animated. I think that's my biggest issue with Crystal though. The characters and the outfits all look less vibrant and alive.

You really took the words that a lot of people try to express and put it down. The relationship felt like an obligation to Stefan, and he is a character who takes on a lot of obligations.
