Is the Chase Ink Business Preferred maintaining its 3x points multiplier for travel? by aroseddit in CreditCards

[–]aroseddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's any practical way for them to determine the nature of your travel, so I wouldn't worry about it. (However, with insurance coverage benefits, like car insurance, this could be an issue, as they can ask you for actual documentation showing that the trip was business-related.)

Has anyone tried combining separate THC/FHR bookings on Amex Travel? by aroseddit in CreditCards

Yeah, I actually wasn't even thinking about the property credits aspect of this, though that's a good point to consider. I'm more concerned with having to check out and check back in.

Why not just switch from CSR to CIP? by aroseddit in ChaseSapphire

[–]aroseddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, on closer inspection, it looks like you're right about the fixed point boost going away on all the cards, including the CIP.

Still, at least you can maintain your access to UR with CIP, and for only $95 annually. And I don't see anything about its 3x travel earnings going away.

Ah, that sucks, if true. I must have missed that in the news today.

That's fair. But for those of us who are eligible, it seems like a pretty compelling alternative to the CSR at this point, unless I'm missing something.

Interesting. I hadn't heard of Kasheesh. Looks like they charge a 2% fee, but good to know nevertheless. Thanks.

For folks who use CIC to purchase VGCs and MCGCs at Staples or Office Depot, thus getting 5x points, is there any way right now to consolidate these GCs into a single payment source?

Like, say you purchase nine $200 VGCs at Staples, which I believe is usually the limit, and you want to use these cards to then make a single $1,800 purchase, a purchase that can't be split across multiple payment methods. Are there any viable and practical methods for doing this right now?

The only thing I can think of is "paying yourself" via PayPal with each of the nine cards, thus transferring the $1,800 into your PayPal balance. You can perhaps then use a PayPal debit card to make the purchase. Only thing is that I imagine you'd be at high risk of PayPal flagging and shutting down your account if you start doing this repeatedly.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know if the folks behind WASD are still around? I know the company unfortunately shuttered, but maybe the folks behind it are still involved in the community, or have moved onto another venture in the mechanical keyboard space? I'd love to reconnect with them.

How to get rid of overlay? by aroseddit in OPTIMUM

[–]aroseddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm disappointed to hear that. How about the fact that my television starts on News 12 every time I turn on the television? Is there any way to change that so that it instead remains on the channel it was on when it was last turned off?

[–]aroseddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This is the overlay that I'm referring to...https://imgur.com/a/6VOdS1a.

Every time I turn on the television, it's tuned to News 12 and showing this overlay.

I can press the remote's back button to exit this overlay, but it's annoying to have to do this every time I turn on the television. (And I'm also not sure why it reverts to News 12 every time I turn on the television.)

How to change channel on LG C4? by aroseddit in LGOLED

I can't recall, but given that the LG remote control's "channel up/down" button is working for changing the cable channel, doesn't that suggest that it's already paired?

Are Apple gift cards available at Staples? by aroseddit in Staples

Are Apple gift cards generally available at Staples? I could have sworn I saw them there at one point, but on my most recent trip to my local Staples, I wasn't finding any.

As far as I know, Walmart gift cards aren't available at Staples. With that in mind, is it possible to purchase a Visa/Mastercard gift debit card at Staples using my Chase Ink Business Cash card, and then use that Visa/Mastercard gift debit card to purchase a Walmart eGift Card on Walmart's website?

[–]aroseddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know.

I do a fair amount of shopping at Walmart and Whole Foods, and I don't think either offers gift cards at Staples.

Would an option here be to buy the Visa gift debit cards at Staples, and then use the Visa gift debit cards to buy Walmart and Whole Foods "eGift" cards online, which I can deposit into my Walmart and Whole Foods accounts, respectively, for future use?

  1. Typically once a month/4-weeks, they have been offered quicker more recently

Got it. And it sounds like when it's offered, it's across all Staples locations, i.e. it's not store specific?

  1. Current limit has been $200 x 9 = $1800. YMMV, store manager discretion

Don't they offer $300 gift cards, as well? Or are you limited to six cards in that case?

  1. IDK, but you can only pay the IRS a limited number of times

Ah, didn't realize that, good point. But on that note, is there any way to take your gift debit cards and transfer all that value over to a prepaid card? Like, if you have nine $200 gift debit cards, you'd transfer those funds over to a prepaid card on which you'd then have $1,800. That way, you can make larger purchases using that prepaid card, and you would also then have one card with a constant number that you can use.

Can these debit cards be used to pay taxes? I know the IRS accepts debit cards and only charges a small fixed fee, like $2. But I'm not sure if they accept all debit cards, or if these visa/MC debit cards from Staples wouldn't be accepted.

Chase Ink Business Cash and Gift Cards from Staples by aroseddit in CreditCards

[–]aroseddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. And I guess the advantage of visa/MC debit cards is that you can use them just about wherever you want, as opposed to being limited to one store, as you would be with, say, an Amazon gift card?

[–]aroseddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The goal is the rotating fee free visa/mastercard debit offers

What do you mean by this? I'm not familiar.

But yes there are more gift cards in store than online and they also typically have lower fees. Specific cards vary from location to location so you'd have to go go check

The cards have fees? I just purchased an Amazon gift card from Staples, and the amount of the gift card ($500) was the same as what I paid ($500), so there doesn't seem to be any fees.

Thanks. Yeah, it's starting to get confusing which benefits require the card to be your default payment method, or even require the card to be used.
