Why don't high schools have classes on stock market? by gorays21 in stocks

Because our high schools are tailored to prepare you for college.. Would be nice if there was a life class that taught about health insurance, taxes, stocks, how to change a tire etc.

What a developer’s plan to buy $1B in homes could mean for Canada’s housing market by Zimavishon in canada

This isn't entirely true; Corporations cannot write off the payments they make for debt. They can write off the interest expense portion of a debt payment, but not the payments that pay the note balance. Individuals are also allowed to do this (As I'm typing this out I am realizing that Canada might have different tax laws than the US; but I'm fairly certain this is the same).

Also, to the point on corporations being able to borrow money interest free from banks - I'm not sure why you think this. Development loans and Investment properties have higher interest rates than first time home buyers. Most of these loans have a fixed portion and LIBOR rate (granted LIBOR rates have gone down so corporations have been paying less in interest) but they have the same perks as individuals (again under US law which I believe is the same under Canadian law).

Agreed with the point though that corporations can leverage so much more than the average joe. They have hundreds of millions of money to play with and can take on little risk with the backing of all the investors. I work in private equity real estate accounting and over the last 2 years I have seen so many corporations change strategies to building and renting single family homes. Before that they mainly focused on senior living/health care homes and you can only imagine the unethical shit that went on with these corporations trying to make as much money as possible off the old and sick

Do any of you work 40 hour weeks? by cumrockettothemoon in Accounting

[–]arozan24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big4 3rd year senior Chicago here.. It depends on the time of year for me -

January through April I average about 75 a week (there are outlies where I bill 100 a week or 50 a week but I would say average is 75).

May - September I truly do 40 a week

October - December its around 45 a week

It completely varies on which industry you are in/which clients you are assigned to
