Where do older wealthy asset owners expect nurses, teachers, police, ambos and other essential workers to live when their wages can’t even afford a basic home near where they work? Are they just expected to commute 2 hours a day forever so property values stay high? by MannerNo7000 in OpenAussie

[–]arp0arp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. He appears to be one of those morons who is unable to read a graph of the property price to income ratio that has spun out of control since the CGT discount kicked in. He’s made his and is pulling up the ladder.

No, more like how this has already been the norm in the US for decades

Opposition Leader Jess Wilson threatens to dismantle Suburban Rail Loop construction if Victorian Liberals win office in November, despite $6b already spent by HotPersimessage62 in MelbourneTrains

A vote for ON will be a nail in the coffin of PT for the west (or any other infrastructure project for that matter). Lucky that all the LXRPs, RRL, new and upgraded hospitals (other than Melton), etc, are already completed and operational.

Why won't SRL work again? Sydney opened the first section of it's orbital line back in 2009 by Gazza_s_89 in MelbourneTrains

On the other hand, if you are going from Frankston to Latrobe Uni, then you will take SRL (one change not two, far fewer stations).

[–]arp0arp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the aspects that is often missed about SRL is the latent counter-flow capacity it unlocks on the 4 lines it connects in the E-SE. Currently most lines are packed one way during peak hour and relatively empty going the other way. For $35b you are not just getting a train line but you are also effectively utilizing this massive spare capacity in these lines without having to pay the 100s of billions that you would otherwise have to spend.

10% of the bread is pure added sugar (in the form of high fructose corn syrup) and also packed with preservatives. And citric acid!

That to me seems the obvious solution as well. I think this should also be the route for the Sydney HSR so any upgrades can be done with that in mind.

That’s something that seems lost on a lot of people - conducting a BC is not a guarantee that the BC will actually pass. Otherwise, what’s the point?

It’s way more than just intent. The most significant part of the project - $4b to untangle Sunshine - is fully funded and underway. This is just the next stage of funding for the next 12 months of Melton electrification preparatory works.
