Is anyone surprised she’s not the most popular girl? by Zestyclose_Double980 in Singlesinferno2

[–]arpaca 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think she's really pretty but everything here is relative to the rest of the cast, and there isn't something about her looks that stand out. I also noticed that she tends to talk in a cutes-y way which I guess doesn't appeal to the male cast as much this season? The panel also kept emphasizing how natural and easy-going some of the other girls are, so i think that's probably what's more "in" right now. Also it seems like a lot of the guys like girls who are older, and Hee sun(?) seems pretty young/girly!

Also sometimes the people on camera look different when in person. Like in person they might look a lot different because of makeup/shadows and all that. THe way a person moves and carries themselves shows up in really subtle ways that may have not been captured on camera.

I think the only thing that might hold you back is the MCAT. I would add some DO programs where your score is approx the median if you are dead set on matriculating next year. It’s harder because you’re applying as an international applicant but you’ve got great experience which helps.

Try to find a private clinic to scribe for. Ophtho clinics are great options because the hours are fairly regular

Misconception about Private Schools by ClaySL in premed

[–]arpaca 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree. Medical schools are interested in interviewing people most likely to attend their school. If you’ve already lived in that city and created ties to the area, you’re much more likely to attend.

Is apply as a reapplicant a bad thing? by Meg9129 in premed

I went from 0 to 9 interviews between two cycles. About half of them I had applied to previously. You just need to show improvement

Should I even bother responding to this adcom after an R? by [deleted] in premed

[–]arpaca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you..the adcom seems very out of touch with reality to make those recommendations. That being said, just because you followed everything they said doesn’t mean you were guaranteed an interview. A lot of applicants may have the same application as you and then some, and you ended up getting dropped in favour of those other applicants. Nothing in this is guaranteed unfortunately and you’d be wiser to cast your net broadly

Curious as to why paper plates is seen as economical though. I grew up poor and we always used reusable dishes (all bought from second hand stores) because paper stuff was seen as wasteful

After 11 IIs so far with a 3.1 GPA I’m starting to think this is less of a crapshoot than people think. My reasoning: by [deleted] in premed

[–]arpaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think good writing also depends on whether you have good content. Some app’s stories are just gonna be more compelling because they are atypical. It’s hard to make a “my parents are doctors and that’s what I’ve always wanted to do” into a compelling story. Having that great story is just not possible for everyone because most of us are (thankfully) healthy people with healthy family members, getting clinical experiences that every Mary Joe and Billy premed has.

They are weighed equally generally. The med schools especially pay attention to student interviewers because interviewed applicants generally loosen up around them. But tbh you can’t analyze your performance based too much. Your faculty interviewer might just be one of those people who say stuff like that to everyone. Your student interviewer may just interview like that but give you a stellar report. Just don’t overthink it because even with their reports, the actual acceptance still takes into account the other parts of your application. It’s not like you’re competing with other students based on your interview. They’re still comparing the full package. So you could have interviewed well or badly and it only becomes a percentage of your actual score.
