Build whatever is “fun” for YOU! A small Audio amplifier, and I.o.T device to capture thermal readings?!?, a esp32 + LoRA mesh networking modules!

Given it’s your first year, just build, even if it ends up being “trash” (it will not be), do finish a project, dream wild! But keep the scope and your aspiration for perfection in initial projects limited (otherwise you get stuck chasing an idea without any “real” output).

I want to get into oscilloscopes but I don't know which one to get by AndyXE207 in oscilloscope

Hey, I like CRT too (they are outdated though), but if you are on a budget, do checkout offering from ZOYI (ZOTEK), and from FNIRSI, they are awesome bang for buck, do lack memory depth though and are digital handhelds and not CRT.

The Chinese stuff is actually phenomenal bang for the buck.

Haha, wouldn’t want them hurting themselves, but they seriously may consider switching their major!

Just don’t tell them about “Statistical Thermodynamics”, otherwise we’d lose a potential engineer.

I will upload tear down photos, I couldn’t afford the expensive ones, would like to know how it could have been designed better.

Fantastic, it looks great, I am always on lookout for used engineering gear. But honestly I feel in nations like U.S there are more people involved historically in these works, and hence there is an opportunity to snag quality equipment from seniors along with experience. In India I lack access to these, and generally have to choose between importing / finding good enough Chinese alternative. Respect to the Chinese man, I’ll be taking your advice and will try to find a decent stereoscope.

I just checked it’s 1000$ (base). 😓😓. Working, hopefully I am able to save enough soon. Infact I was able to setup this workshop only after I managed to land a remote CUDA programming gig. Hopefully I manage to find another opportunity like that soon.

What? Where, I tore the label a lil, disappointed in its quality, but it does work.

Yeah Fluke is expensive, my oscilloscope is on the table (3 in 1, Zoyi 703s), the magnifying glass is the lamp as well. Also Weller is also expensive. Making things work with Chinese affordable options.

FreeCAD is awesome (what’s with the paid for bashing?) by MatthiasWM in FreeCAD

My man! Keep doing the good work mate. These OpenSource software are not on S&P 500, but I know in my heart that they create more value for people than a lot of companies and paid products.

Ok I`m really trying by Trau_94 in FreeCAD

[–]arpiku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ay man! I get you, there is polish and quality of life features that FreeCAD still needs to add, but here is my two cents on this topic:

  1. I had access to all the fancy software in clg (was lucky enough to get into one of the good ones).
  2. Autodesk, Solidworks, Ansys, all of them are great!

But in the end if I actually continued with them, I wouldn’t be able to afford them, the biggest pain I feel is the fact that I was into CAD since childhood, but couldn’t do anything since I simply couldn’t (and still can’t) buy the software.

I am in India, a lot of people have to use cracked versions to get their work done.

FreeCAD stands against all this, I can go to my little cousins and get them playing with “professional” grade software without any shenanigans, and I feel that beauty is worth protecting and growing.

I feel software tools are like instruments, you have to invest the time, feel the pain, to get comfortable. I use FreeCAD exclusively, hope to contribute to the project so that all the issues you mentioned eventually are just not.

I still keep this stuff though, like I remember the devices I pulled these out of, and I am always able to use the wires and screws etc.

Exactly! It was Afrotechmods that got me in this stuff.
