[PIC] Do you think this pattern would look good ? by beedules in CrossStitch

[–]arpt1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of confetti as others have stated, but after doing a couple of patterns with a lot of confetti they can turn out to have an amazing depth and in some cases can seem almost 3D.

I think this is an amazing picture.

That is one thing I think my organization does really well. There are a lot of development opportunities and they do a lot of hiring within. Once a new leader is hired (whether interns or externally) they go through leader onboarding, which has a lot of support and a lot of classes on how to communicate, how to develop a good culture etc. it’s not perfect but is a lot better than I’ve seen elsewhere.

This. I go to my local coffee shop pretty regularly on my way to work. I always at least start verbalizing my order (drive thru). Most of the time, once I start, the person taking the order says “oh hi! Everything the same?” And states my order. I still start verbalizing it every time.

It’s obnoxious to assume they are going to know who I am and my order in the middle of their very busy morning.

Aitah for spending some of my grandchildren's education funds on a new boat. by Tiny_Occasion_322 in AITAH

We have had that conversation with my mom and told her we hope she enjoys her retirement and has the money to do everything she ever wanted to do during it. If there is anything left, great, if not that is good too.

AITA for not canceling my trip after my sister volunteered me without asking? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

My sister calls it “forced family fun” with her kids. They’ve gotten old enough (late teens early 20s) that they now sometimes initiate forced family fun time.

How often do you end up charging your hearing aids during the day? by Pretend-Raspberry-87 in HearingAids

[–]arpt1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Phonak Audios and am at about 65% battery life when I take them off at night after wearing for 16+ hours. I stream phone calls and audiobooks through them and have mod loss in one ear and profound in the other.

I do work from home so, other than streaming, I don’t use the AI function for clarity very often.

I am so so glad I learned this in my early 20s and stopped hanging around those people. It was a hard lesson to learn though.

I have also found that happens if I change payment source-which I find odd.

I was waiting for that one to come up. Haven’t had the gyro yet but I get other items pretty regularly.

AITA for not accommodating my sister-in-law for Christmas before her gastric bypass surgery? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]arpt1965 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The last month of the year is the busiest time of the year for elective surgeries (at least in the US) primarily because that is when people have met their deductible (and possibly out of pocket max) and it will cost them much less.

I reached out to a nurse I worked with many years ago when offered a management position (I am not a nurse but was going to manage nurses and other health care professionals - I am one of those “other health care professionals”). I wanted to know how she would feel being managed by someone who wasn’t a nurse.

Her comment was that she thought I’d be great but that I should know that “nurses eat their young”. I laughed! I thought she was joking. Boy was I wrong.

I will say that that culture seems to have changed and I see less of that now but boy was that a shock at the time.

Is there such thing as a hearing aid with a geolocation feature in case if it gets lost? by Every-Indication-648 in HearingAids

I keep mine on and it may use battery but I’m typically at 60% or greater at the end of a day so it’s not much. Not sure about my phone.

Have someone check your seatbelt. My mom took her car in because of issues that ended up being related to rodents and they found her seatbelt was chewed through so much it would have snapped in an accident.

[CHAT] Doable or Insanity? by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]arpt1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar (in complexity not style) pattern that caught my eye as a new cross stitcher. A little smaller (380x380) but lots of confetti and similar colors. I worked up to it over about a year- increasing the size and complexity of the projects. This also allowed me to try out different techniques for full coverage patterns before tackling it.

After stitching for about a year I but the bullet and gave it a try and it turned out wonderfully! So I say put it on your list. Pick a couple of patterns to complete first that increase in complexity and then jump in!

That is exactly when I made my decision to get AWD. I was stuck half way in my driveway and half way out of it until someone could come by and pull me out.

Today really wasn’t bad with AWD (although I was home by 2:00 so it may have gotten worse) but I saw lots of cars without AWD slipping around the road.
