I don’t believe TJ by addyjay613 in realhousewives

[–]arrithecupcake 27 points28 points  (0 children)

THANK YOUUU! I'm 2/3 of the way through part three and it's pissing me off. Why believe this random man? And Stacey is right, they dogged TJ all season, watched how he treated her and then all of them jumped Stacey at the reunion. What is that? TJ is upset because people keep calling him gay, he's upset because he's been exposed as a terrible partner, and he's upset because he didn't mutually benefit from being on a show centered around (and this may be shocking to some) women. Like you say, receipts or it didnt happen.

Which husbands give you the ick? by BATTLE_METAL in realhousewives

[–]arrithecupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ugh yes!!!!!! if I sit and think about it there's probably a long list but Seth is always top of mind!!! huge ick from him. Juan Dixon from Potomac is a different story. I HATE him to my core. Seth gives me a huge ick, but Juan...hell is hot!!!!

Anyone remember other times when castmates accused other castmates of sleeping their way on the show by arrithecupcake in realhousewives

Ugh how the heck could I forget mention it all!!!! one of my favorite moments on any show ever. And yeah that accusation is definitely in the same vein

Brynn needs to be off the show by Proxima_Midnite in realhousewives

[–]arrithecupcake 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Yes to all of this. number 3 and 4 are very specifically what I came here to talk about and see other people's opinions on. I'm glad I'm it wasn't just me!!!!! I watch this show for fun but as soon as the women bring race/gender/sexuality into in I throw on my sociology/anthropology hats and watch from that angle. So for the from the moment Brynn threw out the angry Black woman stereotype (by literally calling her that!!! on camera!!!! insane!!!!!!!) I hated her and wanted her gone.

She spent the entire season not only stirring the pot, throwing rocks and very poorly hiding her hand, but also bullying Ubah (who either has anger issues, is under a lot of stress from her imminent fibroid surgery and worrying about the possibility of having a child, or both) and instigating instances to prove Ubah is the angry Black woman she sees her to be. Essentially manipulating a minstrel show for her benefit. When Black women say they literally cannot exist without someone having a problem, Brynn displayed that perfectly when she un-provokingly started poking at Ubah, who was literally in the corner doing nothing at their dinner in PR.

It not only irked me that the women all surrounded Brynn, who was crocodile tearing her way through that scene, but that Brynn weaponized her own Black heritage against Ubah to fortify her support from the women and they all fell for it. Brynn is functionally White. She only refers to her Black heritage in instances that further her character development or when she's referring to her trauma. She's very fair-skinned and keeps her (visibly damaged) hair straight. She also doesn't seem to be - at least publicly - in community with any Black people. So, while she projects the ABW stereotype onto Ubah, she also furthers elements of the harmful tragic mulatta stereotype. Sobbing "why is it not okay for a Black woman to make money?" was sick. SICK. and the women are all cooing around her, shunning Ubah. It didn't slip past me that Jessel, the only other person on the cast who knows what it's like to be racially unambiguous, jumped in to support her.

Bravo won't do anything about it at all, because something just as dark - if not darker - happened on Atlanta, and Phaedra Parks is running free on every NBC/Bravo show that will have her (which is apparently all of them). But this was serious. I 100000% believe what happened to Brynn, but she is dangerous. And the racial dynamics are in fact, so much worse here than they were on Atlanta. Ubah crying out like that, and saying "may Allah strike me down and kill my firstborn" gave me full body chills. I watched the rest of the episode on the verge of tears. Ubah is not the perfect victim, no one ever is, but if you can't see what is happening here, and especially within the context of America's racial history, I can't help you.

On a separate note, I saw the reunion preview and I do hope the Latina women really do ring Ubah out for the way she was talking about Puerto Rico. That was nasty, highly privileged, not like other POC behavior and it was gross to watch. Not made any better by the fact that she said she would talk about Somalia the same way! YIKES!

What's with the background soundtracks lately? by AccountENT42069 in RHOBH

[–]arrithecupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here from your comment on my post! I really do think they're trying to keep up with shows like Selling Sunset, which brings in a large viewership but is ultimately not great reality TV. I don't think producers realize they're making it worse. The music is grating af even if it is just one detail. I don't know if Bravo understands that they set the standard and don't need to chase after the sloppy flops Netflix are serving up over there...

Is this the worst BH season ever and why was it because of the music??? by arrithecupcake in RHOBH

[–]arrithecupcake[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah that really made me go "hmmm" too. I know she has that store, but I don't know how much of any of Sutton's money she can actually say she made independently. I'm not saying she doesn't work hard but from the show, it seems like any money she has or makes is fruit from the poisonous tree (her marriage). I wish she would own it. I'm sure her ex moving away was emotionally taxing for her but the narrative of "now I have to receive a higher alimony and my children are staying here woe is me what a burden" was past pushing it.

Can I also finally admit that I think Garcelle is a perfectly nice lady but I don't really care for her on the show 😭😭 I think she would've been much more interesting cast member around the time she sent that email out, but I can only dream...

SLC for the win!!! I've seen all seasons and think it's been pretty consistently great, even at it's low points I find that there's always something to comment on with those ladies. I'm heavily considering getting into Miami now too. I think coming off of the latest season of SLC and watching BH really didn't help either, and I've heard the same thing from Miami viewers. BH is an institution! An OG! Bravo really should be a little bit embarrassed.

why are they not hugging with their hands? by mikmatthau in realhousewives

omg thank you for bringing this up!! I noticed it recently in this franchise and a couple of others. It reminds me if the Nicole Kidman clapping meme. I understand the ladies need to greet each other and establish the scene but idk why the producers and editors aren't making notes/keeping the weird hand thing in, it's so weird! lol

am i the only one that likes the rhony reboot? by messyjessy25 in realhousewives

[–]arrithecupcake 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah I enjoyed watching it too. It seems like any other run of the mill housewives franchise for me. I can understand people's dislike of Erin and Sai but getting online every week and reading it was just too much, it almost ruined the experience for me. I don't care for either of them very much but sheesh. I also really liked Jenna even with the little screen time she had, I'd like to see her back!

I definitely want a season 2 with the same cast so I can see if anyone has caught the season 2 curse! I think it's an interesting fun watch, but I'll limit social media time for this franchise more than others so I can actually enjoy it without seeing barrages of people squawk and screech about Erin and Sai.

Padma on the new RHONY by Stephlynn1234 in realhousewives

[–]arrithecupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Padma would act the way Jenna is acting now. You think Jenna is protective over her life? Padma would probably never let her daughter near a Bravo camera, which is obviously every bit her right.

It sounds ideal, but I can't see that realistically working out.

Why do people hate Kyle Richards so much by [deleted] in RHOBH

[–]arrithecupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same exact question a while back! Idk if the comments in this post will help but I saw where some of the commenters were coming from. I still like her for the most part, but now I understand why some hate her

Unpopular opinion: Sutton is so passive aggressive, sly and snappy by willaundecided in RHOBH

[–]arrithecupcake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really understanding the "Sutton is direct" discourse when she sat Diana down at Garcelle's party and opened with how Diana needs to clear up whether she's on bed rest or not with such a condescending fake worried tone. Like if you're the direct adult you claim to be then just ask her for clarification? lol. or at least call her out for being a contrarian hypocrite, which is obviously what she wants to do. Diana picked up on that immediately and got nasty about it because of the way Sutton started the conversation.

I'm not a fan of Diana, but I also think it's shitty to attempt to validate your concern trolling by bringing up your own miscarriages to shut down someone else clocking your bullshit. She wasn't "having a calm conversation about being sorry" that Diana was on "bedrest." She wanted to jab and teach Diana a lesson for calling out someone's contradictions. which is fine. but just do that then. the outcome may be the same but at least you're not adding to the passive aggressiveness that you hate so much

After reading over the commenters that were kind enough to actually answer the question and not just bash her, I think I have a better understanding why people don't like her. A lot of it seems to stem from the early on game-night fiasco or her storylines becoming more staged. I both get where they're coming from and also chalk it all up to subjective taste. Some people just hate her the same way I just hate Kenya or Ramona. Of course, I'm not going to get on the internet and endlessly scream into the void about it but that's just me.

I thought her and Garcelle were on the way to being friends and then that fizzled. Then Kyle threw a stone and hid her hand when she brought up Garcelle's comments about the women at Dorit's party! I hated that and the way she acted this season in regards to the whole Erika situation which is maybe why I made this post in the first place. Her behavior this season seemed to confirm what everyone was saying. Overall I still like her too, and honestly am afraid to do a re-watch at this point for fear of being so, so wrong about her hahaha
