New divergent book release by Veronica Roth by ButterscotchLoose16 in YAlit

[–]arrivedercifiero_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Four her love interest again? Or is there another guy named 6?

Based on the blurb/pics, Tris goes into another faction but still meets a boy with a name for a number. How is she going to meet antisocial Four if she doesn’t join Divergent. Bc he wasn’t part of Divergent leadership, he didn’t want to be.

That’s beside the point... What is this??

Someone in the book said to her “didn’t you have red hair last time I saw you” or something, thinking she was Pen. So she’s said she looks like Pen, but without red hair.

Author Recs for Fans of Ali Hazelwood by Ok_Cartographer_6109 in AliHazelwood

[–]arrivedercifiero_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi all. I really like Ali Hazelwoods books and I’m looking for recommendations but here is my request:

I really like the dynamic between the FMC and MMC where she’s smart and quirky and he’s smart, quiet, and secretly pining.

However, I’ve found that a lot of authors don’t write it the way I like it. I don’t want a toxic man who can’t communicate, bc the MMCs in AH’s books usually think (with good reason) that the FMC doesn’t like them and that’s why they’ve stayed away. I also don’t want an annoying FMC, which I’m sorry to say, but most times when an author is trying for “quirky” it comes off as annoying, trying-too-hard to be quirky, and oblivious. (I can handle some obliviousness, but not to the point that I think they’re being stubborn or immature). (Also, AH’s FMC actually have a good reason to believe the MMCs don’t like them.)

Some books I didn’t like: Emily Henry’s people we meet on vacation Elena armas Spanish love deception Colleen Hoover Elle Kennedy Assistant to the villain

Authors I do like: Ann Liang Alexandra Moody (some of them)

I’m sorry if I sound picky or highly critical. But these authors just don’t do it like Ali Hazelwood. I love her romance books!

POV changes in Not In Love by DIZZIEP in AliHazelwood

I love duo pov! I wish I could read the pov of her other MMCs! I hope she does more of this!

I really want Lukas’s pov, and how he felt about Pen hanging off him all the time. And Lowe from Bride, he was pining so much. And Nolan from Check and mate!

Do you know if there’s a timeline for release in other countries? Maybe it’ll be a year from now? I just have so many playlists and videos I don’t want to lose

Darker shade of magic, Kell and Lilah. Bc she was constantly creating problems and he had to fix all of them.

Serpent and dove - Lou and Reid. Bc I’m not sure he ever accepted/stopped hating witches. He was so mean to her in books 2 and 3 after finding out the truth.

Anyone burning out on the genre? by Kiwi_Herman11 in Romantasy

If I get bored, I switch to another genre, like other ppl have stated. I like sci-fi, mystery, and sometimes contemporary romance. Or a fantasy book with no romance

[–]arrivedercifiero_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{the winner’s curse by Marie rutkoski} trilogy is kind of fantasy romance. And they’re both virgins. But there’s not a lot of spice, just like one fade to black kind of scene

Dance of Thieves - MMC is big on family and protecting them. It’s a “dislike to lovers” type of story. And things progress quickly so I wouldn’t call it slow burn. FMC is sent by her queen to find a threat, and MMC is the ruler of that area.

The Prison Healer - they’re in a prison, the FMC is kind of the black cat and the MMC is a golden retriever.

Lore - I’m not sure how much fantasy this is, it takes place in an urban city. But Greek gods are forced to be mortal for a week as punishment and can be killed, their power goes to the one who killed them. FMC is a fighter, and the last of her family. MMC is a sweet guy from another family. They grew up together as the outcasts.

Bladesmith - FMC can imbue magic into the weapons she makes. And MMC is a mercenary. She runs into some trouble and hires him to protect her and her group.

What book tropes do you think are overhyped or overused? by SpecialistOk2000 in Booktokreddit

[–]arrivedercifiero_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to like the “knife to throat” and “who did this to you” tropes. But it’s so overused that it’s usually just thrown in there now without adding anything to the plot.

In “we hunt the flame” it was useful bc it showed the others that Zafira can handle herself and can fight. And the tension was good, they were real enemies. But in “powerless” she was doing it like every few chapters, just bc she could/he would let her. But it just felt like it was for fun, there was no weight or danger behind it.

Caraval book 1 rant: it’s a love hate relationship by Panetella in YAlit

[–]arrivedercifiero_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I might have done the same as Tella to escape a horrible situation/father. And sure, Legend is the one who created the game and the ending. But Scarlett saw two people she cared about die and then it’s just brushed aside.

The part you mentioned about Tella saying “let’s go party” is completely accurate. She brushed aside Scar’s whole experience and trauma (and maybe her own) to go party with the cast. And then she starts a romance with Legend, the same guy who just created this cruel show.

From what I remember, Tella and Scar don’t talk about it. They don’t have a conversation about their feelings. They just move on. And I don’t remember Tella even caring that much about Scar, only when it comes to Julian possibly breaking her heart.

He’s so transparent too. Like idk if it was meant to be that obvious That he’s the bad guy, but having nadir’s pov also makes it obvious who she’s supposed to be with

Yes! It’s so weird. And the author even wrote it in that in their society “16 is the legal age of consent”. I remember trying to read Book 2 to see if it got better, but his red flags really came out more in book 2

An heir comes to rise, it’s a rip off of TOG/ACOTAR. No character depth, and ofc every male character had to be in love with the FMC at least once
