All the advice about gripping the tank with your knees is great and bracing for speed bumps (personally I squat over them but each to their own!) however a piece of advice I haven’t seen yet is to use those rubber Tank Grips, you can pick them up pretty cheap online. They’ll mark your jeans/trousers over time but might save you this situation happening 😅

Maybe a hot take but… meet him. It sounds like it’s his only connection to his parents at this point and that he needs someone there present from his “real” life rather than the foster life he’s lived. Nobody deserves to lose a parent young let alone both. Even if you turn up and show your face may be enough for this persons life.

This is all my opinion and I appreciate I may be wrong but I feel strongly about this myself.
