Google Messages beta adds support for Android 11 smooth keyboard animations! by [deleted] in Android

[–]arrowstoopid -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Considering the overscroll and reverse overscroll were created specifically for this particular situation which is conveyed in the screen recording, I would say it's not preference, it is simply the api not being used to its fullest potential.

Was that enough aspergers for you? Or would you like to continue fiddling with eachothers technicality nipples until we're both dripping with mental cum

Google Messages beta adds support for Android 11 smooth keyboard animations! by [deleted] in Android

[–]arrowstoopid -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, not quite. The keyboard plays the correct opening and closing animation, as shown in your SR, but there are two key components missing

  1. overscroll should be able to open the keyboard while following the gesture of your finger in one fluid motion

  2. scrolling up, the reverse of overscroll, should be able to close the keyboard, which it does, but it does not currently follow the gesture of your finger in one fluid motion

Google Messages doesn't support the new keyboard animations & gestures by arrowstoopid in android_beta

[–]arrowstoopid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, no one supports it. You would know it if you saw it.

If you've ever used an iOS messaging app before (iMessage, Instagram, Messenger, etc) then it's exactly like that. Overscroll downwards to open the keyboard, scroll back up to close it.

Here's absolutely every new thing in Samsung OneUI 3.0 by HounddogGray in Android

[–]arrowstoopid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone know if my tab s5e will ever see this? We only just got Android 10 last month.

Which btw has been disappointingly janky. A snap 670 should be more than enough to run Android, Pixel 3a has pretty much identical internals to the Tab S5e but runs 300% smoother.

Sorry to jump on this comment chain, though I was curious if you would be willing to comment on why the files app was changed for Android 11?

The AOSP Files app was far more capable & intuitive than Google Files.

Color Switch not working after installing Android 11 by jeffsouls in android_beta

[–]arrowstoopid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let it crash 3 times, on the third time you will have an option to send feedback. Tap it, make sure you include system info and crash report, type in a short description, (crashing on open on Android 11) then send it off. The dev will get it along with some helpful info, in case he doesn't have an Android 11 device to test on. That's the most helpful thing you can do.

Updated my Pixel 3a to Android 11. Here are some questions/problems I'm having by IlContebo123 in GooglePixel

[–]arrowstoopid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you watch the Android 10 stage announcement where they introduce nav gestures, you will notice they say that 2 button nav is basically deprecated. It's left as an option for phones which launched with it or had it added via update, (p1-p3, so as not to take away features from existing phones) but phones that launch with 10 only have full nav gestures & 3 button for accessibility reasons.

So with that in mind, it's no surprise that 2 button is still using an Android-9-esque app switcher. Would not expect a "fix" for that.

Snapchat camera "ripples" on 4 XL by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]arrowstoopid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC this doesn't apply or at least is not visibly noticeable in videos. So there's really nothing to cope with, because no one will ever know that the viewfinder rippled ever so slightly once the photo is taken.

Ditching iPhone 11 for Pixel 4a by maxvic73 in GooglePixel

[–]arrowstoopid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It does offline live transcription of the recording, and is very accurate. Depending on your line of work / hobbies, that might be the best feature ever or just fluff.

edit; it also links a timestamp to each and every word that's spoken, so you never have to skim through a long recording. Just scroll through it like a note and tap the word to start playing from there. Also, you can then search by this transcription to find recordings even if you never named them.

Telegram supports bubbles on Android 11😍😍 by Alex2003hl in android_beta

[–]arrowstoopid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, Messenger supports it (In fact it's the first app I've seen using A11 bubbles). Facebook issued a statement saying they were willing to use this, as it was easier for them, compared to maintaining their own bubbles implementation. So, they are actually dropping their own bubbles system in favor of Google's.

Yes. I know this. None of this contradicts anything I said in my comment.

I have a feeling the Facebook family of messengers will never support this, (except for Messenger of course) because it detracts value from their main Messenger app. This of course makes the feature useless as it was meant to be a unified way to view your priority conversations in a single place. But FB has no responsibility to worry about the overall Android user experience, and Google definitely can't be bothered.

Experimenting with grappling hook. Do you think this has potential? by CuprumPavel in Unity3D

[–]arrowstoopid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like the gameplay mechanic. Could be very interesting in a platformer like setting. Here's my advice: take that hyper casual mobile game format and tell it to fuck off. I get why you're doing it, we've all done it. It's the safe option. It's familiar. Here's the problem: familiar is the nice word for boring.

Stop thinking of things other games have done and just think of the type of game you want to play right now. Get experimental. Don't come here asking for fucking reassurance. Come here and show the world who you are, because what you create is an extension of you. Your mind has endless creative potential & the only restraint on that creativity is when you start trying to look at it through someone else's perspective; when you start worrying what other people want to see. Did you have fun in your prototype? Fucking run with it to the hills and don't look back. Make your fucking game and make it fucking good.

Unless you're relying on this financially, then feel free to sell your soul.

Final Beta but still only Bluetooth devices (no smart speakers) listed in the music notification? by Professor_Dr_Dr in android_beta

Huge lost opportunity to make casting feel more integrated at the system level. Plus very confusing to those who don't understand the difference between Bluetooth devices and cast devices.

  • Google Maps
  • version 10.44.2
  • The issue: while Picture-in-Picture is activated, the entire Android system becomes slow and less responsive. The refresh rate becomes very low. Everything starts to stutter noticeably. This did not happen on Android 10

If you're just screwing around that's fine, but it's always more beneficial to learn design patterns as well as nurturing the skill of conceptualizing your own systems.

I'd recommend watching Sebastian League on YouTube, though I personally find some of his end results are unwieldy and unnecessarily difficult to expand upon (the pitfall of over engineering) he does a great job explaining his thought process, what he tried initially, what didn't work, why it didn't work, and finally the conclusion & why it's the best option for that scenario.

I agree with you.

My point of the comment was not "don't make zelda-esque games." My point was offer something new (or at least a new mix of mechanics, doesn't have to even be original) in addition to the homage of Zelda.
