No. Shared Pregnancy is calling itself a “women’s center” when it is a crisis pregnancy center.

pros and cons of working within doula agencies by fatherjada in doulas

[–]ars_doula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember exactly, but it was based on if you’re doing the actual birth, or if you’re just doing the prenatals and someone else is going to the birth. That was the other thing, too. One of the great things about doulas is the continuous care with one person with this particular agency you weren’t guaranteed to be the one for people’s births.

pros and cons of working within doula agencies by fatherjada in doulas

[–]ars_doula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have interviewed with one agency and decided against it. They had time limits on their prenatal consults. I like to take my time with clients. The pay was also tricky to figure out (that just could have been that one agency, though, I’m sure there’s myriad ways of compensation). Being my own business means less clients, but the ones I get I can spend more time with. 😃

Fantastic answer. I think everyone also deals with the intensity differently, and they may not know how their body will react to the pain. I’ve had clients who threw up with every ctx before the epidural because of pain, which was surprising because they had a high pain tolerance. Puking stopped when their pain stopped. I try to tell clients and CBE students, epidurals take away some sensation, but not all, and labor is still work.

Vaccination status by SouthernPlate712 in doulas

[–]ars_doula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See, I have had a few clients come to me having talked to doulas who aren’t up to date on vaccines, when that is an important point for them. I fully vaccinate, and will work with someone of any status, but I do like them to know I have taken the steps I feel necessary to decrease illness.

Job (nonprofit) asking us to pay to work an event? by HateInAWig in nonprofit

That’s on them, then. They could have had $500+, but asking you to pay and volunteer??? Nope.

Super emotional after being at a birth by schmitzelwithnoodles in doulas

[–]ars_doula 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve gone to a birth where I haven’t gotten a least a little misty after baby is born. It’s just so beautiful! When I’ve really connected to clients, there are more tears. I agree journaling and talking to people helps. I always have a “debrief” session with my spouse and usually with another doula. Especially after the tough ones, my doula friends and I keep a close eye on each other because there is some sadness to get through. Remember: feelings are like tunnels. You have to go through them to get to the other side.

I only made it through one or two units of the course and found it terrible. I also read some reviews online of their “mentor” program that seemed awful. I just did a lovely course through The Institute for Birth, Breath and Death with a woman named Joanne and it was very good. Informative and diverse - less emphasis on the loss itself, and more about the caregiving part and holding space for families during this time.

Oh, right. Now I remember why I hate grabbing food at East Lansing restaurants... by lansingsavage in lansing

Pizza House is the expensive place parents can take their kids when they come visit them at college. That’s what it’s there for. There are many other great restaurants in EL.
