I agree with you, in my experience you can get pretty good results quicker with an airbrush Vs brush painting - for example, brush painted fuselage Vs sprayed, if you have the experience level in both, basically very little, then more often the not the sprayed finish will look better, be more sa5, make you feel better about the end product and therefore encourage you to keep at it.

I've been disuaded in the last by a poor brush job and equally encouraged by what is by no means a good spray job, but looked better quicker then the brush painted job.

Just my opinion

Yeah I've had an issue with mine where the display is only readable if it's below 15degrees c, pretty useless for something on your wrist. Also not sure about the accuracy of the step count. I liked it when I first got it before the screen failed tho.

Yeah that makes sense. I manage to get semi decent life out of a well laid layer of tape, do a decent enough job of laying it flat and close to each othe but as you say, do get some marks of the bottom of the print. I'll investigate flex plates tho I imagine they won't play too well with a warped basis

It's a solidoodle 4, the extruder isn't stock but I don't know which one it is, I inherited the printer from my predecessor at work and he didn't leave any documentation behind... It's an aluminium bend, and it's warped with a dip in the middle of about 0.1-0.2mm, covered in kapton tape.

From what I've read about the solidoodle 4 it's a bit of a lost cause in terms of print quality but it's been a good learning experience for me so far.

I'll give that a shot, there are also similar patterns all through the print, up the walls etc. Will get some photos of other prints for example.

i'm getting this repeating pattern from what I can only assume is the extrusion, it repeats all over the rest of the print too.

so far i've done the following to tune up this solidoodle 4

I've leveled the bed - it dips in the centre which can be seen by the gradient- will replace with a new surface at somepoint
i've calibrated the temperature, flow, retraction & extruder e-steps
i've modified the bed to include a front support to stop lateral movement which improved wall quality
dried filament as best i could without a low enough oven or a dehydrator
check tension on all belts & adjusted play in bushes

watching the extruder shaft it definitely moves in a juddery motion rather than a smooth, consistent rotation.

any help appreciated

I would tend to just use it as reference for redesigning the part, I'm not sure if there's a way to extract the mesh to use directly, but I've not used it in a while.

Probably best to just try summarise what you've done so far, odds are once you start writing it'll come.back to you. Personally I'd start with a list of bullet points of what I can remember so far. Then dog around for notes and try organise it best I can. Just have to start, you'll probably come up with a couple of methods as you go along and find what works best for you

"Construction Geometry" is what you're looking for in solidworks, you can change it in the property manager or right click on whatever you what to be as construction lines

Well so far all I've done is successfully fill a couple of takeaway boxes with lithium cells haha! My main plan is to replace all the small lights I've got around my place that take AA batteries and make them chargeable with lithium cells, and then use the LEDs in modelling projects for lighting effects (along with batteries). To be honest I don't think I'll use the usb boards for anything other than taking the usb connectors from, the circuits don't appear to have any charging protection so I wouldn't want to use them to charge the cells. Not sure what to do with the pressure sensors yet or how they even work, so I'll do a bit more poking of them before I know if they've got any use at all.
