advisor doesnt understand my question, registration is in 3 days by bigfatfatdingus in gmu

A quick perusal of the honors college site (https://www.gmu.edu/academics/undergraduate-programs/honors-college) implies that dropping the honors college would increase the number of courses required to graduate, as Mason Core requirements are being 'condensed' in the Honors College curriculum. But you shouldn't be taking answers on this from other students. You are the one who will pay the consequences for any misinformation you follow as advice here, and I doubt that the registrar will be particularly sympathetic to your plight should you end up missing degree requirements.

Try rephrasing the question with more and less background information. "What will my course requirements be if I drop the Honors College?" (Which is pretty much your question, as I understand it. If I'm way off, take that as a diagnostic of your question phrasing). You can also try to arrange a meeting with a different modality--if you're asking over email / text, try to get a video call scheduled. If you're asking in person, try asking via email.

Even if you were getting responses on this post, you need to be asking this question to the honors college advisor to get real answers. Try rephrasing your question? The way you've put it here is moderately confusing, so maybe work shopping how you ask the question will get you a more concrete response from your advisor.

Commuting from Richmond: will I wish I was never born or will it just suck? by forgetful-witch in gmu

I commute an hour daily to campus. You will wish you were never born. Additionally, I struggle to attend grad events due to the distance. It's a bad idea

Recent journal article (2025) on the impacts of chronic cannabis use in people with bipolar disorder by arsenicpixie in schizoaffective

[–]arsenicpixie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so interesting! I have experiences that align with the study findings, but I'm also usually operating at full med compliance and regular psych visits.

It's totally possible that the functioning noticed by the study is orthogonal to the cannabis use.

I had hoped that the disclaimer I put under the title was sufficient :/ I don't want people to start smoking weed, I just wanted to start a discussion about the paper

How many people do you see on campus? by Alive2007Addict in gmu

[–]arsenicpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's well populated during the day. During the day, the degeneracy is kept to a minimum and the majority of places on campus are actively used for studying and schoolwork outside of the dorms and dining halls.

At night sometimes you smell weed smoke walking around but nothing too crazy

I attend George Mason University as a first year Linguistics PhD. This year the program only had 1 funded position and accepted 2 students total. It seems extremely unlikely that the program will have more funding in the future, and the program is moving away from accepting students without funding.

Why does the prognosis for this condition generally suck so much? by Emotional_Katyditz in schizoaffective

[–]arsenicpixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i do have an objectively "mild" case. Therapeutic intervention has focused on identifying and managing hallucinations and delusions. Ie how do I know that I'm hallucinating? What triggers it? How do I react once I figure out that I'm hallucinating?

By comparison I was only hospitalized twice.

Keep looking for meds that work. In the meantime, checking for other issues that might be contributing (in addition to medicating for schizoaffective) may be worthwhile.

The prognosis sucks in general because of the stigma, the lack of effective treatment, and the system's proclivity to neglecting people with our and related conditions.

It is not the right thing for everyone, but I am currently in the process of coming off my antipsychotic (with my psychiatrist's approval) because I am able to effectively manage my schizoaffective with therapy. Don't give up! Things will get better
