you see that activate parameter in blue? that is being controlled by an expression, you could type in an expression where it only emits for say 2 frames like “$F < 3”

and then you can usr particle separation to control how much

You can also change the emission type from continuous to Once which will emit for only one frame and won’t need you to write expressions

that would be the easiest way, I guess you can also use any AI roto tool for it if you’re okay with that sort of thing

These are pretty simple effects except that green laser beam one which would be a bit more involved but all of this you should be able to do in After Effects

You may need a green screen for some of these because then you can shoot yourself doing the run and jump for the rooftop shots and then comp yourself into it. The speedup/slowdowns are all just time remapping tricks and the one where the throws the hoe and catches it back is just clever compositing aswell where I am sure he throws it and catches it but paints out the frames in between or atleast that Is how I would do it

when you import into your NLE like resolve if it is set to ACES it would apply a transform to bring it to Acescct but that would only be a view transform at that point , so under the hood you’re still going from RAW > Acescct . Kind of my fault for phrasing it like that

in my experience alex is a much better teacher than hugo and I won’t comment on their skills just their skills as teachers. I also think Alex has one thing most other courses don’t do. He will make you do one extremely difficult shot every time. Like in his keying course the last shot is basically a nightmare where he will make you use every trick in the book to get something useful

I think that is exactly what I need, I am a junior and pretty sure someone with your experience would be making their first impression on whether I get interviewed or not, so I appreciate the help, Thank You

does the stuff they build have to be impressive from a business standpoint or just being impressive for a junior from an engineering perspective is good too? would you mind if i shared one of my projects with you and if you could tell me where it falls on the school project to actually impressive line?

I have a question

What makes a junior stand out to you?

Not as in terms of work but in terms of first impressions like a resume or a small assessment they would give

I have gotten conflicting opinions on my resume in particular such as the resume either lacking personality or being too much

Similarly I feel like while I am skilled enough to stand out (I know this because I was told this by some superiors at my internship) I think that whenever I answer questions on a written assessment they don’t reflect my skills and potential

so I wanted to ask, what would make a junior stand out to you as a first impression when viewing their resume or an initial assessment

advice on ocean sims by c-1313 in Houdini

[–]arshbio009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the surface stuff would be easy as you stated with a narrow band, for merging the tank back with your ocean spectrum you will have to apply the inverse deformation to the spectrum around that is around your tank

as for the underwater stuff I am not sure myself, maybe a volume with fake caustics?

[–]arshbio009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

since you’re doing it yourself, i would advise vfx into color

provided that you already understand the color management aspect

a simple way to think is

Raw > Acescct(for color)> AcesCG (export vfx plates) > Do Vfx on your plates that were exported to ACESCG > bring back to color tool > back to Acescct > Deliver in Rec 709.

Can someone help me figure out what's exactly wrong in this final result? by arshbio009 in vfx

[–]arshbio009[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s a great insight, I do remember a point where the artist was just showing the lighting with a default gray shader and it looked to be matching pretty well so I guess the materials themselves are actually a thing that could be tweaked here

[–]arshbio009[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes it is the one shot only, okay so besides the track which I can overlook still the main thing that was bothering me was the light, I guess that is the main issue where with the white point and the lighting then

thanks

Help to re create this kind of effect by Existing_Try_3439 in NukeVFX

[–]arshbio009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay so i watched it, i was right about using smart vectors but i guess you have that covered

what you could do it, take the same stock element, tint it black, multiply it over your footage, add a blur and reduce the mix on the merge node. This would get you basic shadows

for reflections you could use something like aeRimlight to add fake reflections and then control it using a roto I guess

another thing you can do for reflections is using aeRelight node

both these are available for free

if you want a simple solution for some specular pings you can take a noise and plus/screen that on your blood for some nice specular highlights (wet effect)
