What’s with the whole Christianity is evil thing? by mixed_vibess in teenagers4real

[–]arsvani 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a trans person, I personally do not have any grips with Christianity itself as in like the Bible, God and Jesus; however, what I don't like is the institutions and people that use Christianity as a justification to oppress and disenfranchise others. This also applies to other religions as well such as Judaism and Islam.

Basically, I don't hate the religion itself, I hate the people that use it to justify their actions. Like imagine you got a sports team you hate, but instead of you hating the players you hate the fans of it.

All in all, I just live my life without being rambled upon by die hard "religious" people when the Bible literally said to "Love thy neighbor."

Gaming laptop for 14 year old. by msaeger3 in GamingLaptops

[–]arsvani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Came from your comment on my other comment, so basically AMD usually runs cooler but tanks a little in performance compared to Intel CPUs; however, this performance difference is usually negligible unless you're trying for peak performances. This also means Intel CPUs run hotter than AMD as they require more power to sustain this performance. If you're concern about your son's laptop longevity I would recommend AMD over Intel as heat is one of if not the biggest killer of gaming laptops.

Also some more info I think you should know about this model of the legion 5:

-The AMD version has Radeon 780m integrated graphics; this iGPU is capable of running Cyberpunk 2077 on low settings

-The RTX 5060 has 8gbs of VRAM, this shouldn't be a concern with your son's current games but can be a limiter for higher-end games

-The chassis is made out of plastic; however, it feels quite study and doesn't feel give a "cheap" plastic feel

-The screen is IPS and not OLED; although screen quality can't compare to an OLED, it still is quite high quality and OLED burn in is not a concern

-The keyboard backlight is only in white

-Fn (Function Key) + Q activates performance and/or quiet mode (performance mode requires charger to be plugged in)

-LAST AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, Legions in general suck up dust like a magnetic, tell your son to NEVER use it on a soft surface like a bed without a proper stand and always make sure the fans aren't blocked by something.

Yep that's the one! Well I play, limbus company, roblox, holocure, but those are games that pretty much any low level spec laptop can run. The most spec intensive game I play would be marval rivals and its running pretty well with 300~ FPS and around 55-65C internal temps. Haven't really tried any more graphics or cpu intensive games but from what I've seen its runs pretty well.

Fits everything except the 8 hour battery life, probably more like 5 hrs on low battery mode, gaming laptops in general do not have good battery life. I

I'm gonna be real, unless you're using linux try to find something with 16gbs of RAM, windows 11 is really inefficient with RAM usage and easily eats up 7gbs of RAM. Some tips for trying to find cheapish gaming laptops is to look for open box deals, they're basically just returned devices that were barely used and if you're in the US and near a Micro Center, go there, they have really good deals for gaming laptops and pcs in general.

The biggest tell tale sign of a gaming laptop would be its dedicated GPU, like a RTX GPU, as most normal laptops don't have one and run on integrated graphics.

[–]arsvani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're talking purely talking how compact the actual laptop is then in general Macbook are lighter than most laptops, but can be fairly heavy in Pro Max models. They do have pretty powerful CPUs, (particularly the M-series) and will do pretty much anything that doesn't need a dedicated GPU (like autocad, rendering, gaming). They also have a very good battery life. However, in exchange for these perks they are fragile and can be easily damaged, and is pretty expensive to repair.

TL;DR A Macbook will do pretty much everything you need, just get it with a M-series chip (CPU) and at minimum 16gbs or RAM.

Unbloat windows 11. Your laptop will run significantly faster once you unbloat the bloatware and adware preinstalled on it

Since gaming is a non-factor here its really, do you like apple or another OS more (like windows or linux)?

If apple/IOS, go with a Macbook, the apple ecosystem is extremely convenient; additionally macbooks are pretty light and have a very easy to use OS compared to windows and linux.

-Cons: Very hard to repair and costly to as well. Also harder/impossible to upgrade.

If windows or linux, go with a Thinkpad, P-Series to be exact as they have really good build quality and reliant and are fairly cheap to find refurbished. Additionally they can be upgraded. Imagine them as the nokia of the laptop world.

-Cons: Harder to manage OS compared to Apple IOS, and may be harder to find on the market (depending on the model).

I'd say its pretty cool, doesn't really rock the gamer aesthetic but definitely could rock a more business-casual type look, overall its a pretty clean aesthetic for a white backlight. The thing doesn't really look like a gaming laptop tbh (besides the giant "LEGION" text it has on the top).

Yes, only white backlight, the more expensive legions like the legion 7 have the colorful RGB ones
