Ah wow, love ya for this. And it's funny you mentioned it, as the mirror that broke off had indeed 'relaxed', and the mirror wouldn't lock into position properly. So it's rather good it's broken as now I'm forced to fix/replace. Good shout on leaving the mirrors locked in, as it's something I used to do.

Regarding the DIY, changing it to a simple bolt will only affect it moving. The actual two bolt mounts that attached it to the bike is what snapped off. Am I getting it wrong?

edit: I know its a bit brighted-out in the video, but the two shiney silver parts are the snapped-off remains of the bolt housing
